Claude has really meaningfully changed its ethical guardrails; it used to immediately stop and suggest talking to a lawyer when asked to develop tools related to fighting illegal online harassment, but now it actually is producing useful code that then automates what needs to be provided to legal.
Federal judge: "The presumption of regularity that has previously extended to [the United States Government] that it could be taken at its word—with little doubt about its intentions and stated purposes—no longer holds." This is in a case where the Trump admin sued Oregon.
🚨NEW: A federal judge out of Oregon has issued a sweeping rebuke of the DOJ’s nationwide push to seize state voter rolls. The opinion released Thursday concluded that the department can no longer be presumed to be acting in good faith and warned that its conduct threatens voters and states’ rights.

Imagine if your lawyer submits an AI-generated court brief so bad that the judge says "goddamn dude, fuck you" and rules against you before it even goes to trial. That is what actually happened here lmao
Hey, so, I don’t do civil litigation, is it generally considered good when the judge does this? storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Anthropic spends an awful lot of time training its models to enact this kind of character (the "constitution" goes on and on about "Claude's preferences" and such), so this reads to me more like the company role-playing with itself than any emergent novel qualities or behaviors.
If Opus 4.5 was the one that convinced devs this is a serious tool 4.6 is going to be the one that convinces non coders.
Claude Opus 4.6 verdict: highly effective, just also blew through my quota very fast. I might need to upgrade to Max 5x or 20x if I'm going to be doing this regularly. It figured out how to implement SSL fingerprinting impersonation in literally minutes, it was hella effective.

So what I’m getting is he could’ve done this at any time up to now
According to reports from the front, the situation is close to critical. Over the two years of active Starlink deployment, almost all operational command and control—communication between units, fire coordination, and UAV data transmission—has been tied to the American satellite infrastructure.
For several days now, Elon Musk's company has effectively banned the use of its satellite communications by the Russian side, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to use the system after authorization.

Okay well the OpenAI CMO is hopping on now and it is obvious that Anthropic hurt them and they were deeply unprepared
more free users that can cost you in product liability is not an upside, it is a big big big downside
Woo, all of the required documents are submitted and my application for Australian citizenship is with the lawyers!
Some people are asking what I want Schumer to do. He should be screaming over medical care and access to facilities. He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

And this is where we get the infamous "This job sucks" comment, but the context is even crazier. Le is saying, "Your Honor, I'm actually the good guy here, I was able to get someone released. I'm trying to get them to comply." She's literally starting into the "you need me on that wall" argument!

Le then details the transfers of the detained individual, and chalks up DHS's failure to comply with her not receiving the order. Here's a little practice note: my legal career is fairly young, but I have enough self-preservation instincts to never EVER even obliquely throw paralegals under the bus

Read this starting from page 11. It's not just about her mental state (she clearly was having a mental breakdown). She actually walks through the timeline of when she started at the job (Jan 5) and then from when she started working on the case, the specific events and what time each day etc

Most of the Washington Post’s tech reporters were laid off today, including me. I have loved my time at the paper, which is where I wanted to work from age 15. I take some consolation in not being among the survivors who will have to work harder with less for fewer readers. On to better things.

Sveum and Vazquez, alongside other BORTAC agents, showed up in reports and body cam footage released by a federal judge in November. We were able to further confirm Michael Sveum's identity because one of those videos includes his phone lockscreen with a photo of himself at an ultrarunning event.

This is incredibly fucked up.
My story on Elon Musk cutting safeguards at xAI is on the front page of today's @washingtonpost.com. I’m also among 100’s of reporters laid off. I absolutely loved my job my brilliant coworkers & the thrill of reporting @ the center of forces upending the world: AI & Silicon Valley’s political power
Anyway, security culture and diversity of tactics are good, snitching with cameras is bad. Online celebrities are a risk. Also radicals sometimes over-respond by being nuclear hostile to all normies and believing messaging and public perception are always totally irrelevant.
Pretty telling that Cathy Wilcox has become a more effective political commentator with her powerful sketchings than practically any of her non-cartoonist colleagues who expend literally thousands more words every week but somehow manage to say very little or gutlessly avoid the issues altogether.
A heavily redacted cartoon. My @smh cartoon.
Quick reminder: these are the people to whom the Australian Government is silently handing over our data!
“over recent months, Homeland Security has relied on the use of administrative subpoenas to seek identifiable information about individuals who run anonymous Instagram accounts, which share posts about ICE immigration raids in their local neighborhoods” or criticize government policies
btw, in case you're curious and unaware, an exact 21/21 flip - with a margin this tight - is a huge flex on Jeffries' part and a gigantic fuck-you to Mike Johnson, so perhaps put some respect on his name the next time you utter it

I was visiting the anthropic offices and they let me hold sonnet 5. unfortunately I dropped it and it stopped working. sorry everyone.
some people think "posted 50 or more times yesterday" is a serious black mark, but I'm here to tell you it's the "no gap in posting longer than 4 hours" people to watch out for

So TL;DR, it costs us 1.5 cents per 3D printed whistle (approximately) in filament and electric costs, compared to about 6 for drop shipping; we're more nimble with a distributed network, and also, they can't just seize our whistles off the ship and stop the whole thing; and we pay less in shipping.
Replied to
So we end up saving a TON in postage and delivery. Having distributed printing also allows us to respond to IMMEDIATE in community needs. We can get whistles on the ground in a community the moment someone sees the black vehicles lined up at a hotel.
Replied to
But the efficiency doesn't stop there. Mass-produced whistles are all (generally) either injection molded or metal, and they're heavier and larger by a factor of 6x to 10x than a 3D printed whistle. 1000 of our whistles weigh 4.5 lbs and we can fit them in 9x9x6 box and ship priority cubic.
Replied to
20,000 whistles would be $1200. For that price, you can buy a 3D printer and 40 kg of filament, which prints 20,000 whistles, and have extra to pay for the electricity. You probably couldn't print as many whistles in the dropship time, but the marginal cost per whistle goes down after that.
Just so you know, contains a schedule-sensitive prompt injection hook called “soul-evil.ts” During “purge time,” it may randomly replace the system prompt with the contents of a “SOUL_EVIL.md” file

OMG I hadn't recognized her before. Aliya used to be the program director for the Code for Progress non-profit in D.C. I had met her briefly at one of the Women Who Code DC events. It's awful what ICE did to her. I'll repeat Abolish ICE!
"These practices must end now." Aliya Rahman, a U.S. citizen who was dragged from a car by ICE agents in Minnesota, speaks out at a congressional hearing on DHS immigration enforcement tactics.
Floored by this story. A man wrote a pollite email to a federal prosecutor objecting to the deportation of an Afghan seeking asylum. DHS responded with an administrative warrant to get the man's info from Google, then visited his home to intimidate him.
Three rules in FBI firearm training: 1. Always point your weapon downrange 2. Do not point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot 3. Don’t put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to shoot Guns are not for threatening compliance for unarmed people doing things you don’t like
happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.
They just blindly shot through the fucking door. "Additional photographs show damage consistent with a bullet fragment lodged in a bedroom wall down the hallway — suggesting it traveled between a mattress and a portable crib in a room where several small children sleep."

These generally feel to me like AI SREs are meant to be sold to people wanting to spend less on SREs or see that function as a hindrance, whereas most coding tools are talking to people writing the software in augmenting them in how they frame their product.
Once again noticing that LLMs that write code often get a person’s name and are described as partners, but AI SREs are generally named “AI SRE” and they are there to make sure nobody’s got to stop to do that lowly unproductive work.

HOLY SHIT.
This is unreal. An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.
Motte and bailey shit is the worst. Them: "Arson is a serious crime which should be tracked down and punished by the cops!" Me: "You're overblowing property damage". Them: "Oh, I meant 5th degree arson which carries a maximum penalty of 45 days incarceration" Me: "so this arson is a serious crime?"
Them: "well, no, I just want it to stop". Me: "Me too, but have you considered alternatives like talking to them rather than snitching?" Them: "You are promoting arson! Arson! You are a traitor to the movement and an outside agitator, how dare you?!!"
To my view, this exchange further undermines Wolff’s claims that his relationship with Epstein was that of journalist and subject. Here, Wolff shares the pitch for funding from an accused man with Epstein, and offers commentary indicating a shared ideological commitment against the Me Too movement.
I hadn’t known this. Two men who were accused of sexual abuse on the Shitty Media Men document that I created back in 2017 reached out to Michael Wolff for help as they looked to sue me, and Wolf forwarded their concerns to Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein offered to help. www.jmail.world/thread/EFTA0...
