I get random 421 errors too. Originally I thought it was something wrong with FF, then when I got the same issue in Brave I thought it was my Australian IP address, so I switched my VPN to US and it worked fine. Tried rawdogging in a new private tab and that worked fine too.

For the Macfags and/or Ausfags:
Firefox with uBlock Origin = works with US VPN, UK VPN and rawdogging on Telstra
Brave = as above
Safari = as above

Also works on my Android 14 phone as above, but with Firefox/uBlock Origin and Chromium.

Minor issue - my browser (Brave) initially tried to fetch the site over HTTP which gets an empty response:
❯ curl -I http://kiwifarms.jp
curl: (52) Empty reply from server

Once using HTTPS it works fine though. One wonders if this is why others have intermittently reported problems. Otherwise yes, much, much better, and frankly it's bloody impressive.

In China, VPN in Japan if it matters.

I misread the feature as "Tetanus, the replacement for KiwiFlare, can be tested on kiwifarms.jp - for those brave enough."

If this project could somehow transmit this disease to DDoSing deplatforming cunts like letofag and Fong-Jones via the internet, we might be on the precipice of having a truly revolutionary service on our hands.

.JP runs Tartarus (name?), which will be a flagship product of the United States Internet Preservation Society.
Not a big fan of the name tbh.

I like KiwiFlare, it has that spiteful "fine, I'll make my own and it'll be better" energy about it, but you wouldn't want to keep using something associated with the farms for a USIPS product.

So I understand why you want something different, and why mythology is a good source for such a name, I just think Tartarus is a suboptimal choice.

For one, its easily misspelled or mistaken for other words, as has happened in this thread.

Two, its allusion to Greek mythology is ill fitting. Tartarus is a deep abyssal dungeon of suffering where some are sent as a punishment, where as DDOS prevention is more of a test that all are subjected to. Tartarus would make sense as something that DDOS bots are relegated to, but that's not really how it works.

My first thought for an alternative was based on the mythology of Anubis, the Egyptian lower case g god who weighs souls by placing the subjects heart on a scale against a feather symbolizing the egyptian lower case g goddess Ma'at. Hence they are known as the Scales of Ma'at but that's not really a good name for a product either, its too long and blunt.

Looking into that brought me back to Greek mythology where I read of a similar process described in the Iliad. Zeus got bored of the prolonged fight between Achilles and Hector, so he decided to settle the matter by placing two Keres, or fateful portions of death, on a scale creating the kerostasia.

In my opinion, Kerostasia is a much better name than Tartarus. It's still based on mythology, its still elegantly one word, but its mythological allusion is far more appropriate and its not as easily mistaken for other words.

Therefore I suggest switching the name from Tartarus to Kerostasia, thus concludes my feedback on the matter.

good work, thanks null

also stupid ass question i realise, but how would the distrubuted throttling thing work for normal use? is it possible for people to get banned if they're just browsing a lot/refreshing a bit? (i don't mean like DDOS intended level). or does it like, detect people trying to DDOS or whatever and just bans those IPs?

Homer refers to Sisyphus's stone as λᾶας ἀναιδής, if anyone wants to riff on that for other name options.

Anaides seems like an oddly good word for a a service keeping old-school asshole-of-the-internet sites online and accessible. Can even have a nice POOL'S CLOSED error message. Or cite Luke 11:8.

Sisyphus was also king of Ephyra, which made me immediately think of KiwiFire, kiwEPHYR(a), but that reaches a "too clever" level of dumb-sounding.

Works just fine for me.

Seeing the .jp domain reminds me, have you looked into blockchain domains? I remember seeing an ad for .brave domains on my Brave browser.

Good fucking shit, I'm no computer expert, but I tried the site and the load times are considerably faster, I didn't time it, but I searched and loaded the Tyler McVicker thread from the front page, jp was considerably faster than st in all aspects, even the buggy disaster that is the chatrooms were loading quickly.

Also I second the Titanic naming scheme, may I recommend Epimetheus? (Hindsight, brother of Prometheus, who is Foresight.)

Got a 421 the next day. It worked yesterday with the same setup (mobile Brave with default shields, Proton VPN Seattle US-WA#300). Without changing anything, the site loaded on a private tab. It also loaded on a normal tab when I changed the VPN server to Seattle US-WA#189.
Everything worked correctly today on PC Brave with the same setup as yesterday, except I also changed the VPN server.

I think memorizing Tartarus is just a matter of habit. I mean, it's a repeating syllable in the beginning (tar + tar, from "retarding") and a common ending -us (like Augustus).
And I personally think Tartarus is simpler because it's 3 syllables, while Kerostasia is 5. I also feel like people might end up misspelling the latter as "Kerostasis" or "Kerostation" since it's an unusual word. IMO just "Kero" or "Keres" would be better, but I'm unsure of how it corresponds with the mythology.
