Hello there,
I am curious to know your opinion on the significance of books in TESVI. When I played Morrowind, I relied a lot on books, and reading dialogue in general, to get to know my way around town. I quite liked this dynamic, and it made the game into a somewhat literary experience to me.
But as the games progressed, it more and more felt like reading was a subsidiary enterprise. If I wanted to know what happened between Ulfric and the Empire, obviously I got some more background by reading books, but it wasn't really a necessary part of progressing through the storylines to read books, except some minor quest-specific incidents.
My question to you, who know a lot more about Bethesda's tendencies over the recent decade, is what kind of role you envision for books in TESVI. Will it retain its function as extraneous (towards progressing through the story, that is) lore, or will reading be implemented in more immersive ways? And what would your personal preference be?
A bit of a weird tangent! But I actually think it would be a really interesting way to flesh out the big cities if we got to see actors performing plays and got to see them acted out.
We already have singers who are a really cool way of recounting lore, but full-on plays would be a really interesting glimpse into how certain cultures of the world view the world and recount parts of history differently. For instance, if the game's set in Hammerfell, how would they portray the story of Cyrus from Redguard? And how would that differ from how people from the Imperial City interpreted the very same events?
It also helps that the real world cultures who inspire elements of the various civilizations of Tamriel all have such vastly different theatrical traditions to draw on (English morality plays, Noh theater, Roman farce and so on). So in a big cosmopolitan city, you could see how different cultures tell their stories.
Just as an example, let's say there's a troupe of actors in Hammerfell from Cyrodil. In their plays, they might use an Alyeid as a 'stock villain' type character, because the Ayleid are basically the villains of their national myth.
I genuinely think that not only would it make the cities feel more alive, but would be a really beautiful way to expand the world.
Sorry for my English that is not my first language
As you may have already seen it , a quote from AMD CEO (Lisa Su) during the Q4 2025 results conference call could be a hint that Xbox Magnus will release in 2027:
"Development of Microsoft's next-geen Xbox, featuring an AMD seemi-custom SoC, is progressing well to support a launch in 2027".
It does not guarantee a 2027 release year for the hardware and could simply mean that AMD stands ready to support a launch in two years, should Microsoft be willing to do so but it remains nonetheless a good indication of a potential release calendar for next gen Xbox.
A interpretation of this could be that Microsoft plans to re-do the Xbox 360 "coup" by releasing its new gen console before Sony does.
For this, it will need a flagship title and TES6 is, i think, the best candidate by far.
I also think (and I know it is a risky bet) that TES6 will be a timed exclusivity, it won't release on playstation day one.
Indeed, even if Xbox has recently changed its strategy as regards exclusivities ("thing of the past"), it does not completely exclude the possibility that some (rare) titles will be still kept (timed) exclusive. For instance if we compare Fable 4 (release day one on PS5 confirmed) and TES6, the multiplatform release for the first is understandable because it might be seen as a reboot of a "sleeping" licence. On the other hand, TES6 is a highly expected game which is a kind of strategic weapon for Microsoft, maybe the sole game that can push lifetime playtation players to Xbox ecosystem.
This strategy proved to be successful for the Xbox 360 and it might be the way for Microsoft to make its comeback, given the already lost "console war" for current gen.
We can speculate on the release calendar:
-
Release of Xbox Magnus in 2027 confirmed by Microsoft in 2026
-
Teasing of TES6 (name + region + 2027) at the end of 2026 at best → it definitely won't be during the 2026 summer showcase in my opinion: it is too soon and Microsoft wants to keep « oxygen » for games such as Fable. Even a teaser for TES6 would overshadow Fable completely. Plus Starfield DLC and v2.0 will need attention too.
-
Complete gameplay trailer and showcase for TES6 in summer 2027, marketing around the Xbox Magnus + TES6 bundle, new hardware is the way to play TES6 in the best conditions (tbc if TS6 will also be on Xbox Series X, i'd say yes but maybe not on Xbox series S).
-
Release of TES6 in fall 2027.
2027 may also be the most probable release year for the following reasons:
-
The timeline fits the one leaked in the FTC documents (with a delay of approx. 2 years and if we look at games already released).
-
It is also consistent with the usual development pattern of BGS (3 to 4 years after a game enters into full production).
-
Fallout 5 is the next big project and Bethesda and Microsoft want to capitalize on the success of the series. Furthermore, Todd said that Fallout 5 will exist "in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening" so the release of Fallout 5 and end of series cannot be too far away.
In short, in my opinion, TES6 and new Xbox releases are interlinked. If the next gen console comes out in 2027 (let say during S1 2027 or Q3 at the latest), this will also be the year we will see Tamriel again.
Do you agree?
While browsing new Zenimax job listings, I came across this new job (Director of End-To-End Readiness) which is specifically being hired for in Rockville, MD (where TESVI is being produced). Reading through the job listing, it seems they are looking for someone who makes sure Bethesda games launch smoothly, on time, and without chaos.
Could this job posting hint towards a 2027 TESVI release? From what I can tell this is a new listing that has just been posted recently.
Here's the link to the listing, interested to hear your thoughts:
There is a lot of chatter about the Sword Singing and how it is the centre of the game and that your character somehow unleashes the arcane knowledge of Sword Singing in some random ruin or something. To me, it would hit too much on that "Chosen One" archetype, like in Skyrim you are the Dragonborn....sure you can skip the main story in Skyrim but the quest is still in your journal and it is basically canon at this point that you play as the Dragonborn.
So, to not commit the same mistake design as Skyrim (Dragonborn) and Starfield (Starborn), how about we revert to good ol' OG RPG, and just use the "shout mechanic" so that every race has their own special ability they can use? basically an overhauled Racial Buff/Ability on top of the base ability.
I feel like this should be like a separate upgrade tree, at first the special abilities are weak, you need to strategically choose what kind of "upgrade" you want, and choose one of a few end effects.
What abilities for each race?
-
Redguard - Sword Singing...duh
-
It would make sense for the Sword Singing to be a bit like verses of a song, like 'Words of Power', something you unlock through upgrading, choosing the next 'word' which gives a different +attribute to the spirit sword. At later stages, it would have just different sword types to choose with their own pros and cons, like a two handed huge curved sword, slower attacks but higher damage.
-
-
Bosmer - The Wild Hunt
-
Basically you transform into a Lovecraftian monster with Berserk, but to make it more 'upgradeable' you would start with like partial transformation like maybe at the start just big horns and the 'blood lust'. Later on maybe have an upgrade that allows you to transform your pet as well. At the end you fully transform into The Wild Hunt. BUT, in lore this is suicidal, but in Game have it drain health, stamina and mana, to offset it being OP.
-
-
Argonian - Hist Calling
-
You are basically making your skin stronger with the final result being you turning into a Behemoth of your choosing. This is an ability that makes Argonian more 'tanky', with the upgrade path being choices of trade-offs, get a + in one thing, but a - in another, to keep it balanced.
-
-
Khajiit - Lunar Lattice
-
You can build it in two ways, towards stealth or towards Damage, as Khajiit are influenced by moon phases, and it also could be a mechanic where at night these abilities would be enhanced. The Stealth would be becoming a "spirit walker" basically an astral ghost, while the damage would be dealing 'lunar burn' or white fire damage in short.
-
-
Altmer - "Dawn Magic"?
-
I think that for Altmer the best ability is to do with Magic, and perhaps an ability to be able like once a day or after sleep, to multiply the attack/effect of a spell, since Altmer already have higher magicka regeneration, it would be to OP if they could frequently use it. The balance would be choosing a Magic School that will get the buff, so if its Fire Magic, then the ability will work on the next Fire spell you cast etc.
-
-
Nord - Dragon Shout
-
I don't see anything more that could fit the Nords in terms of an Ability, so perhaps just Dragon shouts but they have once again a longer cooldown, perhaps every time you sleep, and its not as powerful like in Skyrim. I would say it would be more like the regular Fus'Ro'Dah shout, but upgrading it does add some additions, like your Fus'Ro'Dah shout also gives electrical damage, or fire damage. Maybe it Dazes the enemy, perhaps its more wide but weaker, or tighter but stronger cone.
-
-
Dunmer - Something to do with Ancestors...
-
Haven't thought of anything good with these, I know that culturally the Dunmer are very much about worshiping their ancestors, so maybe the ability to call forth an ancestor to help you in battle perhaps?
-
-
Breton - Dragon skin Pro Max
-
Instead of having only Magic Resistance, your 'special ability' would be basically boosting this, adding maybe additional magic damage to your melee weapons, or boosting the resistance, boosting defence etc.
-
-
Imperial - Imperial Command (Marukhati inspired)
-
I think that an Imperial could have like a 'Rally' ability to buff your companion/s or more of a 'command' ability but it is still level based, and add more upgrades, like Rallying also adds a damage buff, or that Command ability has increased time and add magic resistance whilst the command ability is active on an enemy. (Command, basically makes the enemy switch sides...or maybe a command so they end themselves???)
-
-
Orismer - Don't know...
-
They do have the Berserk racial ability, but that is kinda boring, and not a great reason to play them for the special ability, it needs to be something unique, perhaps like unleashing a shockwave around you to push enemies away? Or lean in more towards the Shamantism that they have, with maybe totems, curses or summons being part of their special ability? Perhaps their special ability won't be more of an upgradeable shout, but a new Magic School specific to them, where you unlock new spells that you can add to the shout slot and use during a bit longer cooldown. The draw back would be losing a bit of HP, since they also dabble in Blood Magic, so it seems like a good enough trade-off
-
I do believe this would add a bit more flavour to the game, making a Race choice more strategic and lean more towards the racial buffs that they have. I do think that most of these ideas here, are made in a way that they can be used with different types of Playstyles. Personally this would be more interesting that giving every race just Sword-Singing, it kind of ruins the reason of some of these races, like Khajiit are more known as thieves and assassins, picking a Khajiit a lot of players I believe are looking at those attributes, so the ability to summon a curved sword is a bit conflicting with the playstyle that Khajiit succeed in.
Any who, the abilities are like the first thing that popped into mind, I bet that some of you are able to refine it more especially the Lore Goblins we have in the community. I'd be curios what you think the abilities should be.
Here’s some of what I want to hear.
“They say that there are two different ways to get into Cyrodiil these days.”
“Maiq has long awaited a good Fable. Perhaps his mind has changed. Perhaps not.”
“It has been a long time since Maiq has last seen you.”
And of course, “Maiq has heard that saying certain numbers can make people angry. “
What’s yours?
Warm Sands everyone!
We have gotten some rumours from Jez Corden over at Windows Central, who has a good record for hearing rumours.
This does change the probability of TESVI launching in H1 2027 pretty heavily, as I will dive into more below!
TLDR; Rumours say next-gen Xbox releases Late 2027 at the earliest, this is enough for Microsoft to delay TESVI to the game as a launch title (not next-gen exclusive).
TES:VI Launch Title???
I am NOT saying that TESVI will be Next-Gen Exclusive, I am saying it is very likely that TESVI will be a launch title available on the new Console Day 1.
Xbox didn't have a console seller since Halo Combat Evolved with the original Xbox, and especially this time around, they have to justify the massive $999 price-tag that is rumoured for the next-gen console to sell for.
This is also beneficial for BGS themselves, they get that extra time for the "Glue phase", but they can also play around with pushing the limits on the upcoming console. While Series X will have a stable playable version, the new-gen will probably hit higher frames, more fidelity and overall better looking. Remember how Skyrim was a disappointment on the PS3? Now Todd can go on stage and say that thanks to the new technology the new console fully depicts the vision that they had for the game.
Why would the even care? This is something that was buried with time, but Skyrim was most sold on Xbox 360 during release, accounting for a about 50% of sales. Phil Spencer knows this, and they will want to use it to their own advantage, since they no longer have any series that could fill in that role like TESVI.
Updated Bayesian Theorem
| Period | Old Prob | New Prob | Logic |
|---|---|---|---|
| H1 2026 | <1% | <1% | Even if they wanted to, they can't. |
| H2 2026 | 15% | 5% | Launching a year before the new console on 6-year-old hardware (Series X) creates a "worse version" of the game. Microsoft hates this. Plus, GTA VI is still lurking here. |
| H1 2027 | 65% | 20% | The "Cross-Gen" Trap. This window is now awkward. If they launch here, they launch on old hardware. It kills the "System Seller" vibe for the Late 2027 console. Only kept alive by the May 2027 Trademark Deadline. |
| H2 2027 | 15% | 60% | The New "Goldilocks Zone." If hardware is Holiday 2027, the game moves to Holiday 2027. It becomes the launch title. The "Skyrim Date" (11/11/27) becomes the target. Current Risk: Expiring Trademarks. |
| H1 2028 | 3% | 10% | If the console is "Earliest Late 2027," hardware delays often slip to Spring. If the console slips to Q1 2028, the game slips with it. |
| H2 2028+ | 1% | 4% | Development Hell Tax Slight increase just because extending timelines always introduces new entropy. |

UPDATE 04/02/26
During a Q4 2025 financial call from AMD, DR. Lisa Su in regards to the Next-Gen Xbox has said "Development of Microsoft's next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027."
Source:
With one of the more widespread theories about TES VI being that we're getting some combination of High Rock and Hammerfell, essentially a spiritual successor to Daggerfall, I thought that a conflict similar to the War of Betony, the war that preceeded the events of Daggerfall, could make for an interesting political questline. Though, rather than rehasing Daggerfall's and Sentinel's struggle for control of the island, I thought it could perhaps serve as a vehicle for something a bit grander in scope, involving the mysterious House Lariat, the reclusive Clan Direnni and eventually, the establishment of a Third Daggerfall Covenant.
The questline would begin with the player character gaining renown in the kingdoms of Daggerfall and Sentinel, with them eventually being raised to knighthood and inducted into Daggerfall's Order of the Dragon or Sentinel's Order of the Candle. Relations between the two powerhouse kingdoms of the Iliac Bay would be a bit icy, so induction into one would lock-off induction into the other. Throughout our journey to attain knigthood, we would already learn a bit about the political situation in the Iliac Bay.
Daggerfall, led by King Thagore II. Deleyn, has allied with Northpoint, led by King Tetricus Lariat, to carve-up the territory of the Wayrest, led by Queen Eleanor Barynia, which was still recovering from its sacking by corsairs. While Tetricus seeks to seize the throne of Wayrest thanks to his marriage to Rinnala Karoodil, whose mother Hlaalu Morgiah was once a claimant, Thagore II. seeks to seize the plateau of North Kambria, home to House Flyte of Anticlere and an alliance of minor houses led by House Othrok of Dwynnen. Seeing an oppurtunity to seize Betony out from under his rival Thagore II., the King of Sentinel, Shawar at-Volag, enters into an alliance with Eleanor.
The war begins with Daggerfall's forces marching into North Kambria, with the Order of the Dragon and Camlorn's Order of the Rock battling Anticlere's Knights of the Flame and Dwynnen's Order of the Raven. If the player character chose Daggerfall, they'd participate in the capture of Anticlere and the destruction of the Knights of the Flame, whereas if they chose Sentinel, they, as part of Sentinel's reinforcements, would aid in the defence of Dwynnen. Soon after, Sentinel would launch its invasion of Betony, forcing Daggerfall to halt its advance and divert its troops to the defence of the island.
If the player character chose Sentinel, they'd venture to Wayrest to try and rally reinforcements from Wayrest's Knights of the Rose, only to learn that the city is in the midst of a revolt in favor of Tetricus, with the queen having barricaded herself in her palace. Upon investigating, the player character would learn that the revolt was orchestrated by Karethys, the court sorceress. Upon exposing her, she would reveal that Tetricus is not even a true Lariat, but rather the grandson of her love child with Hlaalu Helseth, who was able to pass as a Lariat due to his red eyes, a trait they had inherited from Katariah Ra'athim. With the revolt quelled, reinforcement are deployed to North Kambria, and with their help, the Order of the Raven manages to retake Anticlere.
If the player character chose Daggerfall, they'd be sent on a secret missison to Hegathe to request aid from Queen Mavia af-Sura in overcoming Sentinel's navy. The queen is however unwilling to compromise the fragile peace with Sentinel. However, the player charactr is approached by a corsair captian who had his ship confiscated due to harassing Sentinelian ships. In return for helping him retake his ship and escape Hegathe, he agrees to rally the corsairs of Cespar to help Daggerfall overcome Sentinel's forces. Returning to Betony, the player character helps defend Whitefort until the corsairs arrive, forcing Sentinel to withdraw.
With his scheme to unseat Eleanor having failed, and his ally Thagore II. having spent his troops in his failed bid to seize North Kambria and the defence of Betony, Tetricus decides to betray his ally, invading and seizing Camlorn. Thagore II. decides to call a truce with Eleanor and Shawar, the three monarchs meeting on Balfiera, hosted by the aging Castellan of Balfiera, Medora Direnni. Realising that they share a common enemy, the three kingdoms agree to form the Third Daggerfall Covenant in order to overthrow Tetricus.
With Daggerfall and Wayrest having entered into an alliance with independent Sentinel, Tetricus brands Thagore II. and Eleanor rebels against the Empire, appointing himself Military Governor and rallying the local legion garrison, already populted by loyal Hillmen, to his side. With control of Oldgate, Tetricus barred the Covenant access to his kingdom, forcing the Covenant's forces to battle in the Glenumbra Moors near Camlorn. Daggerfall's already weakened forces are crushed in the battle, leading to Tetricus winning the day, with him even being acclaimed emperor by the legionnaires.
However, Tetricus' celebration was shortlived, as he was soon forced to sail back to Northpoint to defend it from pirates, leaving behind a skeleton crew led by Count Raymond Tamrith of Crestshade to defend Camlorn. The player character helps the Covenant retake Camlorn and capture the count, who reveals that Tetricus is not well-liked by the Hillmen nobility, and that many would turn on him given the chance. In exchange for releasing him, the count helps disguise the player character and other Covenant forces as Tamrith soldiers in order to infiltrate Old Gate and open the gates.
By the time Tetricus had dealt wih the pirates, the Covenant bypassed Oldgate. Tetricus and his army immediatelly marched south, intending to confront the Covenat's forces at House Lariat's ancestral seat of Shornhelm. The player character manages to reach Tetricus and kill him, only for his body to dissipate into black smoke. As it turns out, Tetricus had been a student of Shadow Magic, and had conjured another version of himself to lead his armies, while he issues orders from his lair the Crypt of Hearts.
The player character then leads an expedition into the Crypt of Hearts to confront the real Tetricus, only to learn that Tetricus had channeled the shadows cast by the war into himself, becoming some kind of shadow entity. With great effort, the player character and their allies destroy the entity that was once Tetricus, bringing an end to the war. Tetricus' wife is allowed to remain Queen of Northpoint, though she is little more than a puppet ruler. And with the Covenant's defeat the military governor and would-be emperor, the kingdoms of Daggerfall, Wayrest and Northpoint had gained their independce from the Empire.
That's more or less how I imagined it playing out. Essentially two questlines, each covering different portions of the war, with them eventually merging when the two oppossing sides reconcile to face the real threat. Depending on what portions of High Rock and Hammerfell the base game includes, I could perhaps see everyting after the formation of the Third Daggerfall Covenant be part of a DLC, encompassing northern Greater Bretony.
The time between Skyrim and TES6 is appprouching the length of time between the return of the Jedi and the phantom menace. That’s breaking my mind.
me: A coin (leak) or two for a veteran? It's not much to ask..
Bethesda Poland: Here's your coin - we respect you. But this Khajiit has no wares 😶
It would be cool if you could hold an item in your left hand and cast Clairvoyance in your right to find nearest similar items. I would like to see this spell reach its full potential.
Just curious what people's thoughts are:
Would you rather have a massive, seamless world with no loading screens for entering cities and buildings (but let's be realistic and keep in mind engine restrictions and how content might suffer, etc.)?
Or would you prefer loading screens if it means every single house has a real interior with loot and NPCs?
Is there a middle ground, or does one have to go for the other to work?
I'm interested in people’s thoughts on what elements from past games are worth keeping, and what fresh ideas could make the next entry feel exciting again.
We obviously don’t want something that feels like a Skyrim re‑skin only with a larger world.
How would you bring creativity into the franchise? What mechanics from earlier titles, design ideas from other games, or completely original concepts do you think would fit this game?
With all the hype around this game and so many unknowns i give a lot of credit to the devs for not going rogue and just telling us what they've been up to.
I wish more enemies/NPCs were not immediately hostile. In Skyrim, and most Bethesda games in general, when wandering into a random camp or POI, everyone immediately starts attacking on sight. This not only removes a layer of combat strategy, but is also annoying as hell when you walk into a new location not expecting to be jumped by everyone there all at once.
I would love to have some dialogue options available for certain groups where you may be able to talk or bribe yourself out of combat, similar to how you might to a guard when you have a bounty.
I remember playing Baldurs Gate 3, and several times I was able to avoid unnecessary combat because of dialogue. For instance, I once wandered into a huge goblin camp, I used my charisma to convince them to let my party in. Obviously it eventually turned hostile and I did have to fight, but being able to talk and enter the space without initiating combat gave me a better opportunity to plan and strategize. I even was able to rizz one of the BG3 bosses into killing himself before ever entering combat.
Now of course, some groups will attack no matter what and I think that’s valid. And I think it’s valid that some dialogue trees will inevitably lead to combat no matter what choices you make. But sometimes I’d like to be able to get deeper into a camp or something and talk to the people I’m potentially about to kill before being forced to kill them for no apparent reason. Hell, a lot of the encounters in Skyrim are with groups/factions you’re meeting for the first time, you don’t know who they are other than the title under their health bar, and you don’t know why you have to kill them.
I think more role playing options in that sense would be a huge upgrade and save quite a bit of gameplay headache.
Like what types of options do you want for facial features like the eyes, nose and etc. Do you want the character customization to be in depth or do you prefer something simple? Haven’t seen anyone talk about this on this sub so I wanna hear peoples thoughts on it because I’m curious.
TLDR: This posts talks about RAM shortages and why they don't affect Microsoft, the PS6 delay as well as the already known and posted (by me) trademark findings. All leading to the conclusion that the year with highest release probability is 2027.
So, we all heard about the RAM situation, where Micron decided to go business only which has caused a huge shortage in RAM for the consumers. Many speculate that due to the prices for consumer RAM, Xbox is forced to delay its Console launch, after all Sony has announced their PS6 will be delayed.
Here is why Microsoft isn't affected by the consumer shortages and Sony is:
Micron decided to go Business-to-Business sales only, mostly focusing on AI firms as their main clients. Guess who is also a AI giant with a strategic partnership with Micron? MICROSOFT. In fact reports say that Microsoft has secured 3% of the available Global RAM market. To put that into perspective, that means that Microsoft has spent anywhere from $3.5bil to $6bil worth of RAM. Doing the math, if the new consoles come with 32GB or RAM, the amount they just bought would be enough for 15mil - 20mil consoles to be produced. Keep in mind that the Series X|S reach 30mil units within 5 years of release, the amount Microsoft bought seems enough.
What about Sony?
Sony unfortunately is a hardware first company, unlike Microsoft which is Software first including a lot of SaaS. That means that Sony doesn't have any AI program or at least not any significant AI program unlike Microsoft with Copilot, Azure in-fact they are pumping Copilot versions into all their available apps and services, They were already Microns business partner for AI dedicated RAM, they have been for a while now actually.
In short, Sony is just unlucky in this situation, they do not have the access to easy bulk RAM like Microsoft does, and even then, Microsoft gets a bulk discount because they have been a strategic partner of Micron for a long time. And to not start a "Microsoft bullied Micron to sell cheap" or anything like that, it is just how the market for tech parts work, the more you buy from a manufacturer and the longer you keep buying, the better prices you will get. Micron RAM has been in Xbox's since DAY 1, Sony on the other hand always took multiple batches from different companies, these are Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron.
WTF has this to do with TESVI?
We all know why Zenimax was so appealing to Microsoft, well established IP's like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, Doom.. but they knew TESVI is going to come out, "The most anticipated RPG in modern history" and having that not only in your gaming portfolio, but to be your Console Seller? oof that's spicy, and I believe it is what Microsoft is aiming for because its too good of an opportunity for them. Knowing that Microsoft has secured enough RAM to produce millions of consoles, is actually the last cherry on top to everything else we know.
What do we know so far?
-
June 2022 - Todd confirms TESVI is in pre-prod but says he wishes it could go faster.
-
This doesn't let us know the timeline, but Todd is probably alluding that because of ongoing Starfield development, TESVI is sitting in the back seat a bit.
-
-
August 2023 - Starfield launches. Pete Hines (just before retiring) confirms TES VI has officially moved out of pre-production and into "early development." This is the firing of the starting pistol for the 3-4 year full production cycle.
-
BGS games do follow a 3-4 year dev cycle. Even Starfield, it realistically entered Full-prod around 2019, making it just ever so slightly miss the 4 year mark due to internal delays... personal take is they dreamt to big and couldn't do everything in time.
-
-
The FTC Leak (Sept 2023) - During the Microsoft/Activision trial, internal documents leak listing TES VI as a "2026 or later" title.
-
Merch Trademarks (Oct 2023) - They filed a handful of trademarks for stuff like Glasses, Leather products, Jewellery and clothing. The biggest up to date status of these is that they are heading into their 3rd extension to provide proof of use (Zenimax needs to sell the products mentioned in the trademarks) the first batch of those has a deadline of May 2027.
-
March 2024 (30th Anniversary) - Bethesda posts a surprisingly candid update stating that "early builds" are being played internally. This is the first confirmation that the game is playable, not just concept art.
-
The Tone Shift - Todd Howard does an interview where he stops talking about TES VI as a concept and starts referring to it as a simulator. "We want it to fill that role of the ultimate fantasy-world simulator."
-
March 2025 (The Hiring Spree) - BGS hires senior Quest Designers and Content Leads (including talent like John Dombrow). This signals the end of "world building" and the start of "content filling."
-
November 2025 (The "Everyday" Comment) - In a GQ/Game Informer interview, Todd confirms the studio’s focus has shifted. TES VI is now the "everyday thing" for the majority of the team.
-
The GTA VI Scare (Nov 2025) - Rockstar announces GTA VI for Nov 19, 2026.
-
This is possibly the moment that they had to internally realign their release window. While TES6 will be HUGE, GTA6 will overshadow and take all the media coverage.
-
-
Jan 6, 2026 - Reports surface that Todd Howard held a "Big Playtest" for the team to review the holiday build.
-
This sounds like a late Beta-build to me. The team "review" is mostly to see if its enjoyable and gathering feedback what needs improvements.
-
-
Jan 9, 2026 (The Swiss Move) - A "The Elder Scrolls" trademark is filed in Switzerland (Application 00335/2026) with an expedited status. This is the "Shadow Filing" manoeuvre to secure the name globally before the US filing.
-
While "Shadow filing" often refers to Caribbean filings, this still counts as you don't check Swiss trademark databases and only not long ago was it noticed that the update to the "The Elder Scrolls" trademark was adding a Class 042 classification. Since filing they have 6 month where they can use the priority date and use the Madrid Convention to basically do a massive update to all countries within the Madrid Convention.
-
-
Jan 15, 2026 (The Kuhlmann Interview) - Former Loremaster Kurt Kuhlmann drops the "Empire Strikes Back" bombshell, confirming the Thalmor were the central villains in his original pitch and venting about being passed over for Lead Designer.
-
The Hardware Leak - Reports confirm Microsoft has secured 3% of the global RAM market for late 2026 production.
-
The "Magnus" Rumor - Insiders begin talking about "Project Magnus" (a next-gen Xbox or mid-gen refresh) targeting Early 2027.
-
Project Name - Project Guardian
-
The recent "leak" saying it was codenamed "WhiteBeach" is just silly, since 2018 we knew the codename, and projects don't just change names in the middle. Also something I've noticed, might be the reasoning or it might be a coincidence: GUARDian -> redGUARD.

Bayesian Probability Table
I took in the most influential news we have gotten and actually made a probability table for TESVI release using the Bayesian formula;
| Period | Probability | The Bayesian Logic (Evidence + Constraints) |
|---|---|---|
| H1 2026 | <1% | Impossible. Even if they rushed, the "Glue" stage isn't close to being completed. The quest designers hired 10 months ago haven't had time to iterate. |
| H2 2026 | 15% | The "Suicide" Window. • Pro: Hits the 3-year mark (bare minimum) and the 15th Anniversary.• Con: Releases directly into the GTA VI buzzsaw. • Verdict: Microsoft likely kills this date to save the IP from being overshadowed. |
| H1 2027 | 65% | The "Goldilocks" Zone. • Timing: Hits the 3.5-year sweet spot (Standard BGS Cycle). • Legal: Lands before the May 2027 Trademark SOU deadline.• Tech: Aligns with the "Glue Stage" finishing in late 2026 + 3-4 months of pure polish/cert.• Strategy: Microsoft uses the RAM stockpile to launch new hardware (Next-gen) in March 2027 alongside the game. |
| H2 2027 | 15% | The "Bug Buffer." • Logic: If the "Glue Stage" reveals critical flaws (e.g., the engine can't handle the sand physics), they delay. • Con: Requires filing a Trademark Extension, which signals trouble to investors. |
| H1 2028 | 3% | The "Red Alert." • Logic: Means the game was rebooted or stuck in "Feature Creep." Unlikely given Nanes/Todd are focused on execution. |
| H2 2028+ | 1% | The "Vaporware" Risk. Statistically negligible unless the studio implodes. |
Disclaimer: I suck at maths so I did utilize the help of an agent specifically designed to solve mathematical problems, and step by step I went through the Bayes theorem and this are the outcomes. I did provide and calculate the probabilities using all information that has been gathered regarding TES:VI. I will not post the name of the agent here, I don't want to promote it in a post, but you can freely ask in the comments.
Conclusion
With everything we currently know, the Bayesian Logic is in favour of H1 2027. Of course its important to keep in mind that the Bayesian Logic is updated every time we hear some new information, it needs to be updated. If they announce a setback in a month, then yes, the Bayesian Table will probably show a higher probability in H2 2027 etc.
And I'm going to mention about the most common counter points for a later release, taking into account my professional experience working within the industry with Xbox as my client.
-
"The game is too big" - You would be surprised how much of the processes in the AAA game industry is automated, besides the Scope of TESVI is most likely larger, but so are the studios themselves, they grew from ~100 Devs to ~450 Devs, not to mention access to Xbox authorized partners in resource outsourcing.
-
"Phil Spencer said in 2025 that its going to take 5 or more years" - Its important to note the context of this quote, it was during a hearing in regards to exclusivity, Phil's response is basically informing that TESVI is irrelevant currently in terms of exclusivity talks. And besides, they shows the CONFIDENTIAL and OFFICIAL early wide release windows of games, with TESVI being shown as "2026 or later". Phil was sandbagging it so the hearing goes in their favour. Personally? I prefer to trust the document seen and handles by several HR and Legal, than the single words of Phil Spencer.
I think that's all, feel free to share what you think, drop a comment a question or anything. Remember to snort copium and inject hopium!
EDIT:
Nowhere have I stated that TESVI will be a next-gen only title. Only that it will launch with the New-Xbox to boost sales, it will still be on Series X and the infamous Series S (maybe on the S).
