>Get sick of talking to online people circa 2022
>Uninstall discord
>Still play single player slop though
>Dont talk to anyone for years
>Go to new job
>Make based friends
>They invite me to play in their multiplayerslop
>they use discord, not based
>I have to reinstall discord
>Now I'm on this gay app again that I swore off
>The entire UI has been fucked up
>Adding people is a nightmare because there is no 4 number identifier anymore and they use twenty different names
>apparently big community servers have a problem random pedos DMing porn and CSAM
>indian scammers using Discord like Telegram to run their petty thefts
>Linux support still poor (despite being a glorified chromium web browser and troons being associated heavily with Linux its still slow and gay)
>they have all your fucking user data, god knows what they will do with it
>they save every post you ever make and deleting it all is next to impossible
I thought I was in the clear to never use Discord again but then I got sucked back in from real life.
I hate this stupid thing.

Self host a mumble server with umurmur and make them join you there.

Sorry bro this is tech related. Its software. Deal with it.

They were never based to begin with if they use Discord.
>>
>>108059143
Based.
Back when I had online friends who I gamed with, I used this all the time. Far superior to fucking discord, which I wouldn't touch with someone else's bargepole.

it's easy to quit if you're not a faggot, since being straight automatically makes you hated on there

>but thinks that adding people using Discord, an app made to be usable for the most incapable of retards, is "a nightmare"
If you think that using Discord is anything but intuitive and piss easy, you should stop using any technology more advanced than fridge
>>
>Discord
You need to make peace with the fact that normies are in fact normies and only value convenience. People just don't like managing accounts. Discord made everything easy so everyone uses it. No alternative can exist if it doesn't handle hosting for the user because no one wants to buy a server to use a service like discord.

I logged out once and never bothered logging back in
I should log back in and interact with my college mates

If anyone wants me to use proprietary malware I just say no. I propose libre alternative(s) and if they say no to that I just decline their proposal and we go our own ways. I have enough contacts that do make the effort of using libre software for communications, so I won't surrender my freedom for the ones who don't.

Online gaming requires a lot of concessions to freedom already, but it's manageable on a dedicated system and for games that run on GNU/Linux. Kernel level anti cheat is a no go in any case.

Online games should have an option to self host to mitigate most privacy issues.

trust me eventually you just get tired of social media because you realize it's all ego

even 4chan is ego but it somehow works very well when everyone has no name

i don't even think there's anything necessarily wrong with discord either. it's just theatrics. some people like the game of theater.

that's also how i think about society. it's a fun game if you can actually participate but i was never able to.

as human beings we have all adopted egos, identities, stories to live in the world. but these aren't actually real they are actively believed. stop the belief in your illusions and watch as they crumble.

we are all one consciousness.

it is very gay
>struggles to figure out how to add people
this really isn't hard to figure out
>community server evil spam
i'm in loads of hobbyist servers and I never experience this as a consequence
>application has poor linux support like most things
to nobody's surprise. login via web browser.

the scenario is you're using it to talk to colleagues. you probably have to use teams and other aidsware for work related shit too. it is what it is

Anon you should try www.tincanapp.org
It's way better than Discord and will help you quit Discord because no one uses it yet, so you can chat with people that you can convince to use the platform

Anyone else used send dick pics to girls of your stuff next to a can of monster energy?

Not open source.
Owned and maintained by a for-profit entity.
>>
>>108060903
>piss easy

>get spammed by hacaptcha if not using a residential proxy and chromium
>please enter your phone number
>please verify your email address again
>get banned for sending friend requests behind "low reputation" IPs
>unable to join any server behind a vpn
>>

nta but this fosstranny gimmick is getting old. Even if it was open you wouldn't be auditing shit. You just want it to be a cheaper target.
>>
>>108065440
if there are dozens of active contributors, then hiding things is either risky or requires everyone to conspire
if the software is popular enough, then it may be maintained if the original developers quit

i have actually audited a small number of the projects i used in the past, but yes, most people won't
just pretend everything with fewer than 2,000 stars on github (or equivalent) is closed source

I just told all my online friends if they want to chat or call they can add me on Matrix/Element and most of them did. This is also a good filter to see who really cares about you. You can even call on Element without an account by just opening a link in a web browser so there is really no excuse to not use this.
>>
>>108065440
>projecting
Why don’t you audit the OSS you use, anon? I find the reading process much more relaxing and compelling than writing.
>>
>>108059132 (OP)
Most of the issues you describe are prevented by not being on a large server with randoms. I've used discord for tech support for software, I just joined one with ~5 friends on it and using it as intended (for gaming as group) and I finally understand the use case for discord.
As always op is a wet blanket fag. Demand your friend use something else, but don't be surprised when they call you a bitch for being so picky.

If you aren't a tourist and have decent medium to long term memory recollection, there's a chance you recognize posts in /bst/ or /dpt/ dating back to over 2 years ago when this project was still TUI based. In other words, it's obviously made by a /g/ autist that lurks and posts here. Basically this >>108065440

Also consider the potential risks associated with running a platform that does prioritize privacy and communications, and consider yourself retarded for thinking it's bad the site falls under an LLC.
>>
idk why u guys cant just quit. i quit this shit cold turkey and believe me it will change ur life. discord is not worth using at all.
>>
>>108059132 (OP)
Very relatable. I keep making sock accounts on Discord just to temporarily speak to normie scum because they refuse to use anything else. With that said, I'm still struggling to find a good alternative. Been using Telegram since 2016, which is good, but requires a valid phone number. Also the app gets progressively bloated/hefty. I just want to post plain text and sometimes images... it shouldn't be so complicated. I miss the MSN Messenger days.
