R: 53 / I: 16archive.today is malware
TLDR: There's currently a script on archive.today that makes your browser silently spam requests to a certain site, with the intention of using the combined traffic of all archive.today vistors to DDoS that site.
Do not visit archive.today/archive.ph/archive.is/etc with javascript enabled.
https://gyrovague.com/2026/02/01/archive-today-is-directing-a-ddos-attack-against-my-blog/I stumbled upon this blog today after spotting the DDoS behaviour it talks about myself whilst using the browser console to figure out why archive.ph was giving me an infinite captcha loop.
Essentially, archive.today's owner is trying to destroy this blog by any means possible because three years ago they published an article investigating who runs archive.today.
I can understand why he'd want it gone, archive.today's survival definitely hinges on the owner remaining anonymous to avoid legal issues.
But I'm livid to learn that he's been abusing me and his other users as botnet drones. What makes it even worse is archive.today started blocking VPNs recently too. Just having a botnet spam requests wasn't good for him I guess, selfish little fuck wanted those requests to come from residential IPs.
It's also ridiculously stupid as well as immoral, since it's just drawing attention to this blog I otherwise never would have heard of.
So stupid that I think it's intentional. I bet it's a faildox and he's trying to throw off current doxing efforts by fooling people into thinking this one from 3 years ago was accurate.
Fuck archivists.
