The first reason is that they significantly reduce traffic accidents. For example, unlike humans, self-driving systems do not suffer from distraction, fatigue, or emotional judgment. As a result, the risk of human error, which is a major cause of traffic accidents can be greatly reduced. Another reason is that self-driving cars can improve accessibility and mobility. For instance, elderly people, people with disabilities and those who have difficulty driving will be able to travel safely and independently. Moreover, accidents caused by mistakes such as pressing the wrong pedal can be prevented, promoting safer social participation. For these reasons, I hold that self-driving cars should be introduced into public road systems.
