Q1: What prompted you to join the company?
Selling and sharing cutting-edge technology
-
Onishi
First of all, could you tell us why you decided to join Macnica?
-
Hayashida
I graduated from a science university, and discovered Macnica at a company information session held at my university. I was attracted to the bright atmosphere that was different from other manufacturers. As I went through the selection process, I felt that all the employees I met took pride in their work and enjoyed it. During the interview, they treated me with care and consideration, and I was so attracted to the people that I decided to join the company, saying, "I want to work here!"
-
Onishi
Many people at Macnica take pride in their work and enjoy it! Why did you join Macnica Tokita?
-
Tokita
There are two main reasons. The first is that I can learn about a wide range of cutting-edge technologies. As someone who loves new things and has a strong desire for knowledge, the opportunity to come into contact with some of the world's most cutting-edge technologies was appealing to me. Research positions at manufacturers involve thoroughly pursuing one field, so I thought Macnica would be a better fit for me. The second is that there is a chance to be involved in business with companies all over the world. Many of Macnica 's suppliers are overseas manufacturers, and I felt that rather than working in the limited environment of the Japanese market, I would be able to broaden my horizons by doing business globally.
-
Onishi
Indeed, these two points are unique to Macnica, a technology trading company.
-
Hayashida
Additionally, I believe the biggest difference between Macnica and manufacturers is not that we "create technology" but that we "spread technology." It's important to "communicate" and "communicate" to customers how great a product is.
-
Onishi
That's a great comment. I think of Macnica as a company that "trade technology." Deepening your knowledge is of course important, but that alone won't make you a business. You also need to properly communicate the merits of the products you handle to your customers.
-
Tokita
You're right. Before joining the company, I was only thinking about mastering technology, but after joining, I realized how important it is to think about how customers will use the product. No matter how excellent a product is, it won't be adopted unless you understand the customer's needs and propose it accordingly. It's a really difficult job. By the way, why did you join Macnica, Onishi-san?
-
Onishi
During my university days, I was completely absorbed in research, but I felt that it wasn't the right thing to do as my lifelong career. I wanted to work with cutting-edge technology while also having more contact with people.
-
Hayashida
Macnica is the only choice!
Q2:業務のやりがい
Experience the cutting edge for the first time in Japan
-
Onishi
Earlier, Tokita-san mentioned the words "cutting edge" and "world" but do you feel like you are actually in contact with the world's most cutting edge technology?
-
Hayashida
There are many! For example, we get to be among the first to come into contact with technologies that are virtually unknown in the market, and conduct unprecedented verification tests. The feeling of coming into contact with technology that is still ahead of its time is an indescribable excitement.
-
Tokita
I completely understand that. There is pressure in being the first in Japan to come into contact with cutting-edge technology, but it's also a lot of fun and I find it rewarding as an engineer. Another great thing about this job is being able to communicate directly with the suppliers who developed the technology. We are sometimes asked to evaluate new products and provide feedback. It's a truly exciting job, being involved in technology before something new is born and hits the market.
-
Onishi
What's great about Macnica is that we have strong connections with a wide range of people, from engineers, marketers, and investors in Israel and Silicon Valley. I think one of the reasons Macnica does so much international business is that we sometimes receive requests from these people to spread the cutting-edge products they've developed and invested in in Japan. We predict trends and are the first to bring products we deem useful to Japan. It really feels like our business is ahead of the rest of the world.
-
Hayashida
Macnica has a lot of trust in the Japanese market from overseas suppliers. I was surprised when I joined the company.
-
Onishi
That's why we are often relied upon by customers who are struggling with issues that cannot be solved with existing technology. There are few companies in Japan that handle the world's most cutting-edge technology to this extent.
-
Tokita
Because of these long-standing, strong relationships of trust with our suppliers, world-leading engineers are often able to communicate with young Macnica employees on an equal footing. This is something you don't often experience at other companies!
Q3:今後の展望
Repeated challenges make it more interesting
-
Tokita
Working at Macnica is an environment that requires many challenges and many different issues, but are you able to take on new challenges, Mr. Hayashida?
-
Hayashida
To be honest, before I joined the company, I wasn't very good at taking on challenges (laughs). However, everyone at Macnica supports challenges, so I'm able to be positive and think, "Let's take a step forward." Now I have a challenging spirit. My superiors and seniors have helped me develop this mindset.
-
Onishi
To be honest, I wasn't good at taking on new challenges either. But at Macnica no one says anything negative. It's normal to hear people say, "It sounds interesting, why don't you give it a try?" Now, I work with the awareness of "thinking outside the box."
-
Hayashida
"Think outside the box." Great phrase!
-
Onishi
As a manager, Mr. Tokita, are there any ways you encourage your team members to take on challenges?
-
Tokita
"I take responsibility for my team members' mistakes" and "I trust my team members and delegate tasks to them." I think it's important to create an environment where team members can act independently, trusting them and delegating authority, rather than an environment where they just do what they're told. I think that it's precisely because people think things through and work that they develop a sense of professional pride. When each individual works with pride, it ultimately leads to good results.
-
Onishi
Delegating authority encourages people to take on new challenges, which creates a positive cycle and naturally fosters a sense of professional pride. It's important to not take on challenges just once, but to repeat them. By accumulating successful experiences, you'll realize that "challenges are fun." This process is very important.
-
Hayashida
Recently, I have been put in charge of key projects that directly lead to large sales. This means that my responsibilities are increasing, but I want to be mindful of taking on new challenges!
