Q1: What prompted you to join the company?
Ease of taking the first step towards a challenge
-
Takeuchi
Shiraishi-san, you've been with the company for two years now. Why did you decide to join Macnica?
-
Shiroishi
I wanted to work globally, so I narrowed my search to trading companies. The deciding factor was that Macnica was a leading semiconductor trading company. Macnica holds one of the largest shares in Japan in the rapidly growing semiconductor industry, was very attractive.
-
Takeuchi
So you weren't aiming to work in the Innovation Strategy Business Division even before joining the company.
-
Kashiwara
The HR department probably judged that Shiraishi was capable of launching a new business.
-
Shiroishi
I'm embarrassed to say this myself, but I was assigned to a department where many people had experience in other departments before being transferred, and to be honest, it was quite a humbling experience for me.
-
Takeuchi
Why did you choose Macnica?
-
Kashiwara
First of all, I was attracted to the fact that the company doesn't evaluate employees based on seniority, but on their achievements, abilities, and motivation. The other thing that attracted me was the company culture. There are many wonderful people at Macnica, and the atmosphere in the company is bright and friendly. The fact that I thought I would enjoy working there was one of the reasons I decided to join the company.
-
Shiroishi
Even after joining the company, I can truly feel the appeal of its people. When Takeuchi and Kashiwara joined the company, the Innovation Strategy Business Division had not yet been established, and I heard that both of them were active in the semiconductor division. Why did you apply to work in a new business?
-
Takeuchi
Even before joining the company, I had a desire to "work globally." Before transferring, I was working in sales for a semiconductor supplier, and I had opportunities to use English in my work, but I wanted to be involved in a job that required even more global activity. Currently, I am mainly in charge of business related to autonomous driving, and there are many cases where I communicate directly with overseas manufacturers in Silicon Valley and Israel that are developing technology for autonomous driving. I applied because I thought it would be a better way to fulfill my wish to "work globally."
-
Kashiwara
This was because I wanted to focus on "creating" a business. Of course, I could have taken on the challenge in the semiconductor business I was working on at the time, but the department working on new businesses, as the name suggests, would be a department that "creates" completely new businesses, so when the internal job posting came out, I thought "this is it!" and jumped in.
Q2:業務のやりがい
There is a chance to become a leader in Japan
-
Takeuchi
Is there anything that you find difficult about actually working here?
-
Shiroishi
Of course there are. You have to create the way work is done, so there are many aspects where you have to feel your way around. In my first year at the company, I sometimes struggled because I didn't know what to do. However, because the scope of my work wasn't set, my superiors accepted the approaches I proposed, and I also had the opportunity to learn about marketing activities necessary for business, so I think I'm able to gain experiences that are only possible in this division.
-
Takeuchi
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
-
Shiroishi
Above all, it's the fact that I'm given the opportunity to take on new challenges. I deal with production simulation software that allows manufacturing plant customers to verify the effectiveness of their equipment before installing it, and when I took over the job, it had only been a year since we signed a contract with our supplier. Even though there was almost no knowledge within the company, I, a new employee, was entrusted with planning sales expansion and sales strategies. I find this exciting situation, where my own growth is directly linked to the success or failure of the business, very rewarding.
-
Takeuchi
Macnica has a strong culture of delegation, where even young employees are entrusted with big tasks and encouraged to take on new challenges.
-
Kashiwara
The market in the field we are challenging is new, and we have the opportunity to become a leader in the industry. The real thrill is being able to achieve the achievement of being the first in Japan to do so.
-
Takeuchi
What do you find rewarding about your work?
-
Kashiwara
We have been given the opportunity to change the future of Japanese manufacturing. As the working population declines, the number of people with the earnest, meticulous skills that were once the strength of Japanese manufacturing is also beginning to decline. We have a solution that can solve this problem using technology. It is very rewarding to see how we can spread this to our Japanese manufacturing customers.
-
Takeuchi
A decline in the working population will eventually occur in any developed country. The solutions and business models pioneered in Japan will now be expanded overseas. The role we play may be significant for the world.
Q3:今後の展望
Creating a third pillar from cutting-edge products
-
Takeuchi
Lastly, could you tell us about your future goals?
-
Shiroishi
I am in charge of maximizing the profit of the business. The business we are working on is directly linked to solving social issues, but we are still in the phase of upfront investment, so we would like to contribute to the company in terms of numbers in the future.
-
Takeuchi
In the future, we would like to make this the third pillar of Macnica 's business and increase profits on a par with our semiconductor and security and Network business segment!
-
Shiroishi
You are right. In addition, the business undertaken by the Innovation Strategy Business Division has the potential to change the world in the future, so we want to be extremely particular about the numbers in order to ensure that this business itself continues and expands further.
-
Kashiwara
I would like to boost Japan's manufacturing industry. Japanese customers have excellent technical capabilities, so we would like to support them in improving their operational efficiency and further strengthen Japan's manufacturing industry.
-
Takeuchi
That's amazing! Knowing Kashiwara, I'm sure he'll accomplish anything (laughs). I want to support Japanese companies and expand Japan's excellent technology overseas. At Macnica our main business is selling overseas technology domestically, but I want to do the opposite. I want to promote the excellent technology of Japanese companies that don't have overseas sales networks to the world.
-
Shiroishi
That certainly sounds like an interesting attempt! Not all cutting-edge products are made overseas, after all.
-
Takeuchi
As an organization that will create the next pillar of Macnica 's business, let's work hard every day, steadily expanding sales and profits, while each and every one of us has a strong desire to create a business that contributes to solving social issues and contributing to development!
