After joining the company, he worked in sales for major domestic electronics manufacturers as a customer sales representative for 12 years. After that, he gained experience in sales for suppliers of an American semiconductor manufacturer, and now he is managing a sales team in charge of cutting-edge AI manufacturers as a general manager. -

He belongs to Sales Department 1, East Japan Sales Division 2, Sales Headquarters.
Currently, as a section manager, he is in charge of industrial equipment manufacturers, which are our customers, and conducts sales for all semiconductor products handled by Macnica. In addition, from 2020, he is participating in a project under the direct control of the president, and is acting as the leader of co-creation activities with Yokohama FC of the J-League. -

First off, what made you decide to join Macnica?

It all started when I attended a career forum in Shanghai, where I was studying abroad. When I visited Macnica booth, I was intrigued by the enthusiasm with which the human resources staff spoke. It was also impressive that he clearly said, `` Macnica is a company with many proactive people.In other words, people with a negative mindset or those who lack independence are not suitable for the company.'' It was also impressive.

I felt that Macnica was the company where I could grow the most. Macnica provides an environment where you can be entrusted with big tasks from a young age, and I was able to take on a variety of challenges right after joining the company, which I thought suited the career I envisioned. I still remember reading in the brochure that "Your growth rate is three times faster than other companies" (laughs).

Why did you join Macnica?

There are two reasons why I decided to join Macnica. The first is that I was attracted to the people. All of Macnica employees I met during my job search were passionate and warm. I honestly thought, "I want to work with people like this," and "I want to be like that someday!" The second is because you are evaluated fairly. Macnica is an independent trading company, so there are no transfers from the parent company, and the people who are evaluated are all excellent people who have achieved results in their work. I thought that if I worked hard and produced results, I would be evaluated accordingly.

When working as a member of society, who you work with is just as important as what you do. I also decided to join Macnica because I was attracted by the enthusiasm of my senior employees, so I can understand Nakade's feelings very well. At Macnica people's achievements, abilities, and attitudes toward work are properly evaluated. Also, because it is such a fair company, I feel that we have created an environment where all employees can work comfortably.

Aikawa-san is in his fourth year with the company, and Nakade-san is in his ninth year, but what do you find rewarding about your work?

I find it rewarding to dig deep into our customers' latent needs and "create demand." Our work begins with proposing cutting-edge technology to our customers, but it's not uncommon for them to not be interested in what we have to say at first. However, we don't give up, instead listening to the customer's current situation and promoting the value of adopting the products we can provide. When we finally close the deal, I feel a great sense of accomplishment.

It's common for customers to not listen to our proposals because they themselves don't see any major issues with their current situation. Even in such cases, by working closely with customers and digging deep into various issues, we can often find issues that can be improved or solved with Macnica 's cutting-edge technology. It's not enough to just make a proposal; it's really important to "create demand," and when we can make that happen, customers are very grateful, which makes it very rewarding.

Even if our proposal is rejected, if we make a good proposal that is tailored to the customer, they will trust us as salespeople. Building trusting relationships with customers leads to future business opportunities, so I find building strong relationships with them very rewarding. That's why I work hard every day, striving to be a salesperson who is always available to consult with customers.

I think you both understand very well that building a good relationship of trust with customers is easier said than done, and it takes constant effort to become a company that customers can rely on.

It's been 20 years since you joined Macnica, so I imagine you've had a wide range of experiences. Have there been many rewarding moments along the way?

Ota
That's right. I've had experience in both customer sales and supplier sales, and each role was rewarding in its own way. When I was in customer sales, I felt like I had done work that contributed to the development of society when a device equipped with a product I had sold was released on the market.

I have been in charge of customer service since joining the company, so I understand how you feel. Especially in the semiconductor business, it takes a long time after the customer decides to use the product, we develop prototypes of the equipment many times, and it takes a long time to actually move to the mass production system. right.

A characteristic of the semiconductor business is that it takes time to translate into sales. However, while sales are important, semiconductors are essential for machines and devices. The pride of supporting and contributing to the foundation of society also motivates me to work.

When you were working as a supplier sales representative, what moments did you find rewarding?

Ota
Customers often have high demands on product pricing and support terms, and in order to secure business, sales representatives must sometimes engage in tough negotiations with overseas manufacturers. It was rewarding when we were successful in those negotiations and won the business! To close a negotiation, you need to logically explain, while presenting information about market trends and competitors, what benefits the manufacturer will gain from winning the business, and why your request is necessary to win the business. Gathering information before the negotiation and making a presentation on the day are extremely important, but the joy of finally winning the business when the manufacturer accepts your request after all that hard work and preparation is exceptional.

My goal so far has been to listen to the concerns of my juniors, follow them up on business, and give them advice to create an environment that is easy to work in. In the future, I would like to become a person who can influence not only juniors but also the entire team, raise the level of knowledge of everyone on the team, and raise their mindset toward goals.

We are currently working with Yokohama FC of the J-League on a project to create new value for the realization of a prosperous future society, using cutting-edge digital technology to develop players and strengthen teams. By creating benchmarks for new businesses, I hope to create a path for the company's future development.
