Ordinary sand is heated to temperatures up to 1000°C in our patented electric heater with electricity from a renewable energy source or from the grid when prices are low. The hot sand is stored in a specially designed silo that contains no piping or heat transfer components.
As sand is an excellent insulator, the sand is kept stationary while stored to retain heat efficiently. The sand is set in motion when it’s time to transfer the heat. The dynamic sand flow is 10 times more effective in heat transfer than static storage solutions.
When thermal energy is needed, the hot sand flows through our proprietary heat exchanger, where the heat is transferred to a working medium such as steam, superheated steam, thermal oil, hot air, or pressurized hot water depending on process requirements.
The cooled sand is collected in a separate storage silo and returned to the heater for reuse. The solution is pre-tested and even pre-built to minimize disruptions on the site.
