Bam Bam Forced Out Too Soon

Wild horse colt Bam Bam will turn two at the beginning of June, but his childhood ended much earlier.

Just over a year old when he was separated from his natal band, he was pushed into the bachelor world far too young. He’s found other bachelors to travel with, but the bullying is constant and unrelenting.

When I arrive to bust the ice at the tank, the group leaves in a hurry, then stops a short distance away to turn back and watch. Bam Bam stands with them, cautious and curious, learning yet another hard lesson on the range.

Easy to recognize by his bold blaze, passed down from his sire Fred Flintstone and dam Betty, Bam Bam’s story is a tough one to witness.

Life on the range offers no shortcuts.
