For the Summer Games, athletes representing Poland first competed in the sports events at the Games of the VIII Olympiad Paris 1924, taking part in the sports or disciplines of athletics, boxing, road cycling, track cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, rowing, sailing, shooting and wrestling. At the Games of the VIII Olympiad Paris 1924, the first athletes representing Poland to win Olympic medals did so on the same day, capturing a bronze in the men’s track cycling team pursuit 4,000m event as well as a silver in the mixed equestrian individual jumping event. At the Games of the IX Olympiad Amsterdam 1928, Halina Konopacka became the first athlete representing Poland to win an Olympic gold medal, competing in the women’s athletics discus throw event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Poland first competed at the I Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924, taking part in the sports or disciplines of cross country skiing, military patrol, Nordic combined, ski jumping and speed skating. At the VII Olympic Winter Games Cortina d’Ampezzo 1956, Franciszek Gasienica-Gron became the first athlete representing Poland to win an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour, capturing bronze in the men’s Nordic combined individual event. At the XI Olympic Winter Games Sapporo 1972, Wojciech Fortuna became the first athlete representing Poland to win an Olympic Winter Games gold medal, competing in the men’s ski jumping large hill individual event.
At Beijing 2022, Poland was represented by 56 athletes and claimed one medal in ski jumping. Dawid Kubacki took home bronze in the men's normal hill individual event, marking the NOC's first medal in that event since Kamil Stoch won gold at Sochi 2014. Competing in his fifth Games at Beijing 2022, Stoch finished sixth in the men's normal hill individual and fourth in the men's large hill individual. Despite not winning a medal in Beijing, Stoch remains Poland's most successful Winter Olympian with three gold and one bronze won at Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018. Also in Beijing, Poland came close to a medal in speed skating, where Closing Ceremony flag bearer Piotr Michalski finished fourth in the men's 1000m and fifth in the men's 500m event.
