Abstract
This chapter aims to provide an essential introduction to the phenomenological and conceptual aspects of non-relativistic quantum mechanics. The emphasis is mainly addressed to the principles, for which an adequate discussion and experimental motivation have been sought. Moreover, an overview of elementary applications is presented to show how quantum formalism works in simple cases, followed by brief hints on the interpretative issues that have been engaging researchers of the foundations of quantum theory for decades.
