dialog flow: an exercise I'm restarting "Throne of Glass" by Sarah J. Maas. A friend loaned me a beautiful hardcover collector's edition last year and I want to get through it this weekend so I can return it. I was pulled out of the narrative on page 50 by the way the dialog was structured. I couldn't manage to keep reading. pipermcaWriting Year in Review - 2025Last night we took out the trash and... Err, I mean we rung in a new year! News-wise the year was a hot mess, but everyone knows that, so let's not dwell on that, hmm? Personally, it was a year of stress (which unfortunately will continue into this year). I'm hoping I can start working on ways to deal with that stress. We tried to do some travelling this year, but literally the day before our Big Trip this year, we both tested positive for Covid. Because it absolutely wrecked our shit the last time we had it, we did not want to risk being stuck in a hotel 2500 miles from home being incredibly sick. So, we cancelled everything. We ate some cancellation fees, spent a few days recuperating at home, and then felt pretty ok. So I guess we got a little staycation out of it. It would have been nice to have gone on that trip, though. 😕Because of that cancellation we did end up with some airline credits, though, so I made a surprise trip to see my parents for Thanksgiving. They had no idea I was coming, so it was a Big Surprise for them. It was really nice seeing my family again; the last time I saw everyone was in 2024 when we visited for the eclipse. Spouse and I have a big anniversary this year, so we're trying to figure out what we want to do for it. I am thinking either trying to redo the failed trip from this year, or maybe go to Europe. We'll see! (I hope we do something though; we tend to procrastinate on things until we've run out of time to do stuff, lol.)Due to the aforementioned stress, I did not do a huge amount of writing this year. In fact, I was just slightly under last year's word count. But, like last year, I am focusing more on my goals rather than sheer number of words written. In December, I only wrote 1,964 words. I'm not sure why that number was so low (I didn't even make my monthly goal of 3000 words) except for the fact that player housing was released in World of Warcraft. 😅 I made a very fancy house and have redone it several times now, so that has definitely been a time sink for me. Most of those words were for my holiday story Winter Wonderland.in 2025, I wrote a total of 70, 716 words. Most of those were on The King and the Bounty Hunter, which still isn't ready for release. (See my goals below, though.) I also had a sudden burst of creation in November for my Secret Solenoid fic Space Bridge to Nowhere, which was really interesting. Because that story was a choose-your-own-adventure, it was modular, which meant I could work on it in little discrete chunks... Sort of like doing mini writing sprints. My muse seemed to really like that, and I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate that method into my other projects. I continued doing my monthly goal of 3000 words, which I hit most months this year.Another thing I've realized is that writing time = words. Which makes sense (lol) but I mean that if I'm logging writing time, I am actively writing. The words are in my head, and I spend very little time staring and thinking of what to write... I just need to devote the time to applying butt to chair and getting those words down. As you can see, my average words per hour are fairly consistent depending on the session length. And now: goals! I did pretty damn good on my goals this year:Finish reposting taken-down fics Yes! Done! Finish writing and posting Prime and Protector Yes! Done!Write and post three one-shots I wrote EIGHT! (I've posted tiny snippet teases, but have only worked on it in little bursts and bits. I'd love to get that out of my hair so I can start working on the next fic in that AU.) I love cranking out little one-shots, and I've decided drabbles count. XD I was looking through my IDW2 reviews a few weeks ago, and I miss doing them; I want to get those wrapped up. And finally, I really DO want to work on some scripts, even if it means "comics-izing" some of my existing stories. (I do have an original idea for a script but it would be a big one... We'll see if I can wrangle that.)Behind the cut is the first sentence for each of the fics I posted this year and the month it was posted in. While Bluestreak is the main character, he mostly acts as a foil to show how struggle and revolution and war and resolution can change people and relationships. It shows how fucking easy it is to be radicalized, and the hurt that it leaves behind. And I definitely had something to say about how much it helps to leave a path back for people who've been radicalized, and how not everyone has room for that in their hearts, and that's ok. I still do re-reads of the fic, about once a year, and there are parts of it that still make me teary-eyed. I know why it didn't get more attention (it's long, has rare pairs, sounds sad, and smacks you upside the head with a spicy scene at the very start), but I'm still super happy with how it came out and what I accomplished with it. 💗29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?Hmm, that's a hard one. I really liked the lyrical qualities of one of the drabbles I wrote this year, but quoting a whole fic might be cheating. 😅So instead I'll say that I had a lot of fun writing the epigraphs at the start of each chapter for The Prime and His Protector. I'll single out the one for chapter 24, since this blurb from a news broadcast helps tie together both what the Matrix might be all about, with the arrival of the Quintessons. In other news, scholars at Iacon University's Department of Ancient Studies have uncovered a new mystery regarding the Matrix of Leadership. The four ancient runes inscribed on the frame of the Matrix are well known: "Observe, Reflect, Advise, Survive." However, new research indicates that the third rune, "Advise," is more accurately translated as "Control." Advocates have latched onto this new research, saying that it adds fuel to their argument that the Prime should not be an adviser in any capacity to the Senate, while supporters of the Prime say that more research is needed. Megatronus Prime was unavailable for comment, as he is currently assisting with the ongoing discussions with the Quintesson ambassadors. For more on the meetings with the alien delegation, let's go back to Andromeda, who is at the Decagon now.

pipermcaWriting Update - November 2025Whoosh! That was November!I was pretty well consumed with work for a lot of the month, although I had this last week off. I went to see my family for the holiday, which was really nice. I wish I could pull that off more often.In terms of writing, I was fully heads-down all month working on my Solenoid fic. As I mentioned last month, my brain decided it wanted to do something very ambitious for my gift. It's technically done but I still have some editing I want to do on it, but I've got all December to take care of that. (It's in pretty good shape anyway, so I'm not super worried.)In November I wrote a total of 12,194 words. Which... is less than my Solenoid fic? Which is the only thing I wrote this month? Does it care?In IDW1, Optimus worries about Superion not separating back into its components after the battle with Devestator and Menasor. Whose decision was that: the Aerialbots’, or Superion’s?If a combiner is essentially a hive mind, I’m thinking it wouldn’t really care. Its mind is just the combination of its components, with their wishes and desires and plans. But in IDW2, Devestator is shown to have its own consciousness, separate from that of the Constructicons. In this case, I think the combiner would care, and would do anything necessary to make sure it would be able to combine again in the future.God.
