I feel vindicated, and I am eternally grateful to Gareth's great work on this issue. Last year we revealed that the proposed Chinese Embassy site sat close to a sensitive hub of critical communication cables which could be susceptible to attack. What followed was nothing short of a cover up. Government officials briefed against my reporting to other journalists on fleet street, telling them the story was not true - a line they never told to me - and tainting my reputation within the industry. I went back to my sources, who doubled down on what they told me and I trusted them. I am glad I did. Now, we can see it clear as day. Sensitive communication cables DO run near the site. So why did the Government do what they did?

And here's what it means for UK security. Chinese officials could steal secrets, manipulate financial markets, and cause “massive” disruption to the UK economy by accessing sensitive cabling running alongside its proposed London embassy.
