About This Game

■ Deckbuilding Roguelike

In this dungeon-exploration game, players use a variety of cards with different abilities to battle enemies and make their way forward. Each run is unique—the types of cards you acquire and the structure of the dungeon change every time you play.

Lose a battle, and everything you’ve gained during that run will be lost.

■ Battle System

Combat unfolds as a turn-based card battle. Players draw cards at random from their deck and must adapt their strategy to the current situation. Each turn, you can take a single action: attack or defend using a card from your hand.

■ Dungeon Exploration

While exploring, you’ll encounter branching paths and various events that require you to make key decisions.

Each choice you make may significantly affect the outcome of your journey...

■ Story

In Tokyo’s bayside area stands “THE HASHIRA,” a state-of-the-art, ultra-high-rise complex. The tower has become a sealed-off space crawling with monstrous beings.

To eliminate the target lurking at the very top, Tsukuyomi, an elite organization sworn to protect the nation, begins its mission—

※ Supported languages: Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese (planned).

Story: 4/5
Gameplay: 5/5

The AI is slop, that's the fact. But still the game and mechanic is very polished.

Yo, @Screenments style comin’ in HOT with a 1/10 review for Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter! Look, this game’s tryin’ to serve a vibe, mixin’ some action and huntin’ mechanics, but it’s like sippin’ flat soda—borin’ and leaves you wantin’ more. The summary says it’s a “straightforward combination,” but that’s code for lazy and uninspired. Ain’t no spark, no soul, just a bland mashup that feels like it’s sleepwalkin’ through the genre. You want a real banger? Plenty of other games out there snappin’ harder than this snoozefest. Save your time, skip this one.

If you like deckbuilding + roguelike progression, Tsukuyomi is a fun climb — pick your path, fight, shop, deal with weird events. Each character has their own deck style, the fights are snappy, and it’s got that modern gothic anime vibe 🎨.

The “AI Kaneko” thing — every 10 events you get a generated card based on your play — is unique. But honestly? Some cards felt like slightly re-skinned ones I’d already seen 🤷‍♀️. The whole AI art choice is bold, but risky — especially in today’s climate. Kaneko says it’s trained only on his own art, but still… people will have strong opinions.

✅ Pros:

Fun card combat + clear progression

Nice art direction + anime gothic style

Mystery events keep runs fresh

⚠ Cons:

AI card system feels hit-or-miss and not sure it bring anything to the game

Verdict: 👍 Fun if you like the genre — but know what you’re stepping into with the AI system.

These are some personal thoughts and suggestions after playing this game.
1. There's no need to tell players what they will get after making a choice. Let players make their own choices based on their intuition, preferences, habits, and personality. This way, the AI can generate cards that align with the player's nature. If players make choices against their intentions just to get a certain reward (whatever it may be), the nature of the game changes. This also applies to situations where players deliberately make choices with obvious biases to get their generated random cards recommended and officially selected for the game rather than being removed after a while or after a version update. Personally, as a casual player, playing the game should be about enjoying oneself first and shouldn't be overly concerned with whether one's exclusive cards are retained or noticed by others to gain some 'honour'.
2. When deciding whether to participate in gambling or punish the activity organiser, if the player cannot participate due to insufficient funds, it's unreasonable for the subsequent card generation to assume the player is righteous and hates evil. Not choosing to gamble simply because the game mechanics don't allow it doesn't reflect the player's true intent. Players should still be able to choose to gamble when funds are low, but be warned of an additional 'cost' or a higher chance of failure (the opponent might cheat).
3. I'm unsure whether this game generates cards based only on the player's actions (the path taken, choices in certain situations, tendencies when building a deck through rewards and shops, etc.) or if it can include every step of gameplay in generating exclusive cards. For example, when facing an enemy's attack, do I choose a balanced tactic with limited defence while attacking (minimising damage while ensuring efficiency), an absolute defence or self-healing while inflicting sustained damage on the opponent (as long as there is no turn limit and I outlast the opponent, I will win), or a reckless attack-for-damage tactic (using all attack cards, even if some can also defend, taking huge hits to try to defeat the opponent quickly)... Even if my deck seems to belong to a certain type, individual combat styles vary in detail. If these data could also be recorded and used as a reference for generating exclusive cards, the results would be even more accurate.

A free game from the artist behind some of my favorite games (SMT, Persona) AND he trained an ai* on his art style??? THIS IS AMAZING. Every so often, you'll get a unique ai generated card based off your choices in the game so whatever he programmed from the prompts makes the card tailored to you but also is influenced by his art style. Pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ genius. The roguelike system is very well executed. Loving this and can't wait to see where this goes! *Ignore all the ai haters, they're living in fear.

The game is fun. The gameplay is well done, the gacha isn't intrusive so you can perfectly play without paying.

Most of the bad reviews are about "muh AI" because it's "cool" to be anti computer-generated images if you're a reddit loser apparently, but they have no argument about the game itself.

I gave this a play far past its """"relevance"""" solely out of morbid curiosity and because of the growing hole in my heart from the absence of new dungeon crawling megaten and classic kaneko aesthetic and design. The precious few characters and demons that are actual real illustrations from kaneko are all pretty good. But the moment you start seeing the AI demons and enemies it completely breaks the illusion. The style isn't even slightly consistent and they don't look like something kaneko would have ever made. They are as painfully generic and as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ looking as you'd assume. That they thought the audience was stupid enough to accept the blatant lie that their AI was exclusively trained on kanekos art is just sad. The dungeon crawing is automatic and not particularly engaging either, you just chose left or right sometimes.
Its actually quite a bit of a depressing play because the story immediately introduces you to a blatant expy of the yatagarasu from megami tensei, which furthers the always assumed but not confirmed idea that kaneko didn't leave atlus on good terms and actually still just wants to make megami tensei stuff.

It's one of those mobile games, on steam, again...... prepare to download 600mbs of updates every week at dial up speed because they couldn't add the updates to steam and instead you have to download it from ridiculously cheap servers.

The game itself isn't bad on paper and actually has competent content and card design, where it gets asinine is the wasted concept, art, story, endgame balance, and exact content. Kazuma Kaneko is an obviously talented writer directly having a hand with several of the best JRPGs of alltime: Strange Journey, the original Personal trilogy, Shin Megami Tensei IV and Nocturne, even some of the Digital Devil Saga duology--however we don't really see any of that storytelling acumen or actual narrative quality let alone amount or depth from this title. Each floor has a grand total of maybe two paragraphs worth of text with randomly found disconnected worldbuilding that doesn't really matter to you because the characters and setting doesn't really substantiate itself.

The art of course is naturally another pain point, having one of Japanese gaming's most unique artists in gaming and utterly wasting his style on a premise and mechanic that sounds interesting on paper... but again, often lacks a lot of the balance and added story to even make the fact they're clearly using plagiarizing/unauthorized datasets to make extremely middling work while having the playerbase actively train it with a voting system. This is a massive shame, because looking at some of the actual designs, dialogue/mechanic (Stein Doscht of Flanders and the word game mechanic are good examples) from Kaneko here proves he still not only has profound cultural insight and understanding, but that sharp and unique design sense.

Lastly is the gameplay. Listen. You're not doing phase 2 Arahabaki legit, I won't even lie. I love the fact that the game isn't a pushover, but without enough cards and plenty of useless trial cards, there's a definite roadblock at certain points, even if you're busting out crazy armor stacks, and even then, if you were theoretically lucky enough, you could finish the game within a day or two. It does not have a real endgame and I don't think COLOPL has a real direction as to what their game will become.

Kazuma Kaneko is my favorite video game artist of all time, and I can say that he's absolutely washed now. First it was NFTs and now it's AI slop.

The game itself has some decent mechanics, I think the combat is kind of fun but a bit derivative and that's it's second biggest issue. I like the art for the characters Kaz himself drew and weren't AI. The girl with the pink hair and baseball bat reminds me of Ayase from Persona 1 in a good way.

The biggest issue is with the AI artwork. The game claims the AI is trained on his art exclusively, but we know that's not true as it's not even possible. An AI art generator has to have MILLIONS of images to be trained off of, and Kaz's entire career is thousands at most. On top of that, he drew images for the AI to train off of, rather than feeding his whole Atlus career into it...at least it seems so. The generations are often straight up bad. I got Eros with a weirdly shaped head that really didn't fit. I got Hephaestus weilding a human arm, but holding it in a weird position. I've seen other people's generation results including more than one Elsa from Frozen where it's pretty blatant. I too remember how Kazuma Kaneko worked on Disney's Frozen, that definitely totally happened!

I can't recommend this game at all. Kaz is washed, and I suggest if you're a fan of his, that you just go enjoy the good times of his career, of which there's multiple decades of to check out.

If you want something like the gameplay of this game, just go play Slay the Spire. It's so much better and is extremely similar mechanics, on top of just being a better game.

If you want Kaneko's art, well, there's his entire career out there. On Steam there's Nocturne HD, Raidou Remastered comes out in about a month. While he didn't have much work on them at all, his art is still used to this day in games including Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance and even Metaphor: ReFantazio a bit! Outside of Steam there's plenty of bangers out there that you should really try if you can get your hands on them (or maybe some of these get remasters some day): Digital Devil Saga 1&2, Persona 2, Shin Megami Tensei II, Soul Hackers (1), Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. Those were only a handful of my favorites, as there's so many more.

It's disappointing to see Kaz come to this, but clearly he knows that's where he can make bank....as long as this game doesn't just EOS in the near future. But alas, the memories of his career up to now will always be around, and highly recommend going and playing those games.
