    USEFUL INFORMATION

    House Rules:

    • It is NOT allowed to bring a dog inside.

    • A change of shoes is mandatory – indoor slippers are available at the entrance, but you can also bring your own.

    • Hand disinfection is mandatory before petting the cats, disinfectant is available at the counter.

    • Be careful where you step because some cats like to follow people’s footsteps.

    • Please approach a sleeping cat very gently and quietly.

    • Do not frighten the animals and avoid sudden movements.

    • Do not shout or talk too loudly in the facility’s area.

    • If you want to hold the kittens in your lap, it is advisable to arrive in long pants.

    • The cats living here are gentle and friendly, but can be petted at your own responsibility.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Can the exhibited paintings be purchased?

    If you fall in love with one of the exhibited paintings, feel
    free to ask us about it on the spot. Some of the paintings are available for purchase. Our artists also
    create custom paintings upon request. For more details, please contact us via email.

    Can we order a painting of our own cat?

    Yes, this is possible, please send the photo of your own cat you want to get painted to info@catmuseumbudapest.hu,  with the required size and implementation technique. Most often, watercolor, smaller paintings are ordered of your own cat, but it is also possible to order acrylic or oil paintings. After consulting with our painter, you will receive a price quote within 24 hours (please also write in the email whether you want it framed or unframed).

    Do the cats sleep in the Museum too?

    Yes, they do! Their living area is fully furnished here, and they
    stay with us day and night. Cats are creatures of habit and prefer a stable environment. They sleep
    around 16 hours a day, often during both daytime and nighttime.

    What makes the cats so calm and friendly?

    Our cats enjoy a balanced lifestyle. Our opening hours
    are optimized for their well-being, and we carefully limit the number of visitors to ensure their
    comfort. Additionally, they have private retreat spaces both upstairs and downstairs, providing them
    with a peaceful escape whenever needed. The minimum age requirement of 8 years also helps
    maintain a tranquil environment for the cats.

    Can kittens be lifted up?

    For the safety and comfort of the cats, visitors are not allowed to lift them.
    However, the cats may choose to jump into your lap if they feel comfortable.

    Are all kittens vaccinated and vet checked?

    Of course, all kittens have received the mandatory vaccinations, are vet checked and dewormed at the required intervals, and are provided with anti-parasite drops.

    If my child is 7 years old, can I bring them?

    For the safety and tranquility of the cats, the minimum
    age for all children in the museum is 8. For reference, some cat cafes in Japan have an age limit of 13.

    Can I buy a ticket for my child and wait outside?

    No, children under the age of 12 must be
    accompanied by an adult. The Museum does not provide childcare services.

    Is the Museum wheelchair accessible?

    For the safety of the cats, wheeled vehicles, including
    wheelchairs, scooters, and bicycles, are not allowed inside. Additionally, the Museum is not fully
    barrier-free as it contains stairs.

    Is it mandatory to book an appointment before visiting?

    Booking in advance is highly recommended to ensure your spot, as we only allow small groups for the comfort of our cats and guests. Reservations can be made through the “Book an Appointment“; section of our website. Walk-ins are welcome if space permits, but entry cannot be guaranteed without a reservation.

    Do you keep the booked appointment in case of a delay?

    We can accommodate delays of up to 15-20 minutes. If you expect to be later than this, please notify us so we can hold your spot.

    Can I change my booked time?

    No. The booking is non-modifiable and non-refundable. In case of illness or other unforeseen circumstances, we recommend transferring your ticket to someone else.

    I didn’t receive a confirmation email. Was my booking successful?

    Every successful booking generates an automatic confirmation email from info@catmuseumbudapest.hu. If you don’t see it, check your Spam or Promotions folder. If you still cannot find it, your booking may not have been processed. Please try again.

    How can I get a student ticket?

    If you have a valid student ID, you will receive a 15% discount on the adult ticket price at the reception upon presentation of your student ID on weekdays. In this case, book an adult ticket for payment on site and you will be able to claim the discount as described above.

    I have a Hungary Card, how can I claim the discount?

    By presenting the Hungary Card on site, you will receive a 50% discount on the adult ticket price twice (cannot be used at the same time). In this case, book an adult ticket for payment on site, and after presenting the card, the 50% discount will be deducted at the reception.

    How can I book an appointment with a ticket purchased in advance from coupon and program recommendation sites?

    If you already have a ticket / coupon, then in the Appointment Booking menu, select the Gift voucher redemption (0 HUF) category and add the number of people, so you can book with it (no serial number or code needs to be entered anywhere when booking online). The ticket from the coupon or program recommendation site should be handed in at the reception upon arrival, preferably in printed form.

    Is it possible to receive the Gift Voucher ordered online from the website by email?

    We can also send Gift Vouchers for 1-person / 2-person / Family / Painting workshops ordered from us by email. In this case, you must send a reply email to the confirmation you received when ordering, indicating that you are requesting the voucher online (DO NOT WRITE IN THE COMMENTS FIELD!).

    Anyone who would like to receive it in printed form on site can go and pick it up at any time during opening hours.

    Can I change my reservation?

    No. The reservation cannot be changed or refunded. In the case of illness or other issues, we recommend that you give your ticket to someone else.

    I did not receive a confirmation email. Was my reservation successful?

    After every successful reservation, we send an automatic confirmation email from the email address info@catmuseumbudapest.hu. If you cannot find it, please check your Spam or Promotions folder. If it is not there, your reservation probably failed and you should try again.

    Is it possible to organize a birthday party at the Museum?

    Yes! The entire venue can be rented for private events, including birthday parties. To request a quote, email us at info@catmuseumbudapest.hu with the desired date and number of attendees. Discounts are available for exclusive bookings.

    What happens if I can’t attend a painting workshop I’ve booked?

    We cannot provide refunds for workshop cancellations. However, if you cancel at least 48 hours in advance, we can issue a Gift voucher for future use or help you reschedule to another date. For cancellations within 48 hours, we recommend offering your spot to someone else.

    Can I buy tickets for the workshops on site if I decide on the day that I want to go?

    The number of participants in the workshops is limited to 12 people, so that the instructor can give everyone enough time and attention, so the places will most likely fill up in the days before.

    We organize painting workshops on most weekends, you need to book the course and time that suits you in advance on this page.

    Can I extend the validity of my Gift voucher?

    Gift certificates purchased directly from the Cat Museum can be extended up to one month after their expiration date. If the voucher was purchased through a third-party provider, please contact them directly.
