Skip to main contentAmerican Pinball and Planetary Pinball Supplies Announce Long-Term Partnership to Produce Classic Williams and Bally Pinball Games : r/pinball
Hopefully these are more on the CGC remakes side than the Funhouse remake side. No interest in them making new LCD animations or trying to “improve” the rulesets, just put out faithful new runs of the classics like Theater of Magic, Circus Voltaire, Tales of the Arabian Nights, etc.
Rick approached me years ago to fix bugs on old WPC games including my own work, but this "reimagined" word makes me think it's gonna be a different story now. I wish them all the best of luck.
I’d also bet on ToM. Super desired and getting harder to find on location. Wonder how they will improve / redesign the box as I hear maintenance can be rough.
I’d love for twilight zone to be one of them, but I’d assume any licensed property is less likely. Though I Don’t imagine the twilight zone license is a terribly expensive one these days.
Yeah I was thinking the same, unlicensed themes like ToM, TOTAN, WW are all probably easy to do but TZ license can’t be that difficult/expensive but honestly I have no idea what I’m talking about lol.
Just don't try to modernize them, please. LED lamps, ColorDMD and Pinsound in an otherwise faithful remake is where it's at. Bonus points if it depresses the market for the older, beat up versions so I can scoop them up instead :)
Except for Doctor Who. If they want to "reimagine" a version with modern Doctors and companions, River Song, Missy, and weeping angels I'm all in.
PinSound would be a no-go for anything with a Yamaha synth. Those games had a lot of neat audio design that wouldn't be possible to accurately recreate with it. They would need to properly emulate the original hardware in order to accurately represent the OG audio.
If by "reimagined" though they intend to redo sound packages though, they have some extremely high standards to live up to. In either case I hope these games have properly emulated audio available in some capacity.
On the flip side, with the new Metallica remake, I hear a lot of people say the "modernization" makes it a lot better in terms of gameplay (I haven't played either enough to have an opinion myself). I could see it going either way if they went that route; people being thrilled at a game they love just playing slightly better, OR being upset that it's not exactly what they're used to.
"Reimagine" really is broad, curious to see what they come out with.
I'm guessing this could be a continuation of what Haggis was trying to do with older solid state games, but with updated software. Just without the rip-off tactics that haggis used
For what it's worth, here's what the new owner of the company listed as his favorite WPC era games over on Pinside: Addams, Attack from Mars, Scared Stiff
My guess is that Planetary Pinball was fed up with how long Chicago Gaming was taking to get games out. They did such a great job with it that American has a tough task meeting that quality.

Whitewater?
Depending on what they mean by "Reimagined", WW would be interesting, because Dennis Nordman worked with AP in the past (under prior ownership).
I’ll take a new twilight zone. If they’re making seven, it has to be one of those. Also, I’d put money that Theater of magic is on that list as well.

if it’s seven specific titles they should say what they are.
Spoils the marketing plan.
Champion Pub
Black Rose

I can’t believe no one has said Indiana Jones yet. Classic of the classics. I’m sure there would be licensing issues on that one though -
So how is this different than the Chicago reproductions of Mm, CC, and AFM?
My guess is that Planetary Pinball was fed up with how long Chicago Gaming was taking to get games out. They did such a great job with it that American has a tough task meeting that quality.
I don't think they will redo MM, MB, AFM, and CC. I believe those are off limits. Especially with CGC still selling them.
They're "reimagined," which is much, much better than "remake," because, well, "imagine."
It will be lower quality.
I love my CGC machines, I do. I own three of them, but man, they take forever to get them out.
,
Make the MACHINE! Bride of pinbot is why I’m here in this sub 30 years later
The Pinbot line in it's entirety would rock.
Cool. Re-release Addams family please. I'll buy one asap.
Re-imagining has me thinking/hoping World Cup (doggy soccer) will get a look
At last, an Evel Knievel game with some actual ball jumps!
Star Trek TNG pls
Fish tales and twilight zone please!
It all depends on what they mean by "reimagined". They made sure to italicize it.
Super. Now, when is Stern going to come out with a classics line of 80s era pins? I want my Big Game!
"Reimagined." 🤮
