For months now, I have written that birth data would be a lagging indicator of how effective Trump has been at carrying out mass deportations. Women illegally in the United States who were in their third trimester at the beginning of his administration would wait it out, but as deportations ramped up, especially after ICE received a surge of new funding in July.

New information provided by the Centers for Disease Control shows that mass deportations are indeed happening as births from foreign-born women are cratering as the year ends, deportations have come into focus on social media, and many illegal aliens decided to leave the country on their own.

Of course, not all countries are even; some, like India, the United Kingdom, and Cuba, saw no substantial declines, while others saw double-digit decreases in a matter of months.

Mexico, the country with the largest population of foreign-born residents, both legal and illegal, saw a 15 percent decline from October 2024 to October 2025, with the numbers increasing as Trump’s deportation efforts ramped up.

Foreign-born nationals from Latin America saw declines across the board, with El Salvador recording a whopping 35 percent decline from October 2024 to October 2025. President Bukele’s successful operation to cleanse that nation of its criminal elements may also be why many El Salvadorans feel they can return to their native country or choose not to make the journey to the United States.
