UpScrolled started with a simple observation: social media had stopped being social. Algorithms replaced genuine connection with engagement tactics. Authentic voices were drowned out, while clickbait and algorithm tricks dominated feeds. Communities struggled to stay connected, held back by shadowbanning and selective censorship.
The breaking point came in late 2023. As global events unfolded, our founder Issam Hijazi—a Palestinian-Jordanian-Australian technologist with decades of experience at companies like IBM, Oracle, and Hitachi—watched firsthand as meaningful stories disappeared from feeds while misinformation thrived.
That’s when everything changed. Instead of accepting the status quo, Issam rolled up his sleeves and dedicated himself fully to building a new kind of platform. Not another social network chasing the same playbook, but something fundamentally different. As UpScrolled launched, people who shared the same belief joined in to support the mission and push it forward.
