State Audit Findings and Next Steps

PLSD Receives State Performance Audit Report and Outlines Next Steps for Operational Review
District Will Use Findings to Guide Operational Improvements

The Ohio Auditor of State recently released a Performance Audit, which they describe as an “independent assessment of operations within select functional areas.” Specifically, the Auditor’s team

examines staffing data and qualitative information, such as collective bargaining agreements, to pinpoint areas in which we can become more efficient. We commissioned this audit, we received it, and we are reviewing the findings carefully to identify areas where we can improve operational efficiency.

It is important to note that the Auditor’s team only considers raw data. They do not interview or observe students, staff members, parents, or community members about their experiences in our schools. They do not consider our priorities, specialized needs, or programming choices, such as our clear investment in English Learner supports. Instead, the Auditors upload reams of data into an analytic system, then compare the results to those from other districts that their formulas deem "comparable."

In this vein, then, we will honor the Auditor’s request to “use the results of the performance audit as a resource for improving operational efficiency.” It will serve as an asset to our continuous improvement structures, along with the more dynamic observations and analysis of our teams of professional educators.
