100%. The voice when he says "I have the Power!" should be booming. And He-Man should look like the absolute pinnacle of body-building.

He-Man is supposed to be intimidating. So much so that any man on earth wouldn't want to mess with. That dude is not.

They should of casted Zac Efron.

Could The Matrix be in that list?

Isn’t that rumored to be with JJP? Or did they never have it or lose it?

No idea what was the issue with Matrix, and I’ll guess that Tom Cruise declined the Top Gun idea, or his fee it was extremely expensive.

Apparently they could only get minimal assets for The Matrix, basically the poster art.

I believe it was mentioned last year that they wanted $15 MM to license top gun

I heard Jack say the exact same thing on an podcast about Jaws as a license…that was prior to Stern actually doing with all the assets. Perhaps it is just a line he uses to say the license was more than he wanted to pay for it. I’m sure it wasn’t as expensive as Harry Potter…but perhaps his bean counters just didn’t think it would sell enough machines.

I've been thinking a lot about Pokemon lately.

DnD is an OK game, but I feel like it isn't what I wanted. I've played it on location a few times and have never regretted my decision not to buy the Premium. It's a license that SHOULD have absolute destroyed me financially, but it didn't.

Pokemon is the same thing. I grew up with it (I'm 39) and really do love what it did for gaming. But I'm kind of nervous about what Stern may do with it (if they do indeed have the rights). Before playing DnD, I was very much "blindly in" on a Pokemon Premium, if it came to fruition. But in a post-DnD world, I realized I definitely need to see it to believe it.

Unrelated, has the PE acquisition of Stern had an impact on things in terms of how the consumer and collector market operated day-to-day?

100% in with you on this take. DND was a dream theme and that game didn't do it for me. As messed up as this sounds I am very glad that Brian Eddy isn't the designer of Pokemon. This to me is the saving grace here as all of Brian Eddy games in the Stern era don't do it for me.

The code has come a long way and I enjoy the layout. Still can't stand the chaotic multi-ball and number of balls(feels stupid). I know they drain after you hit so many times but it is annoying to me. Was wondering if you could take out half the balls and do a 4 ball multiball or if the game would not play without all the balls in trough. Lots of people love the progression part of it and I could see Stern doing it for Pokemon as well.

Texas Pinball Festival should be fun this year with the new game releases

Pokemon and Beetlejuice will have long lines. Spooky is bringing 10 Beetlejuices to the Florida show-so should be the same for Texas. Love having new games to check out at pinball shows.

Or if Eddy would make it an adjustment in the menu settings and allow for 4 ball multiball. If I could eliminate half the balls for multi-ball-it would make the game more appealing to me. Also make the shield more reactive and not just be able to raise during mb.

Afaik the shield can be raised at any time, not just multiball.

That said, it's insane to me how laggy the shield is. Nothing pissed me off playing DnD more than when I tried to hit the action button to prevent a ball from going sdtm and the shield doesn't pop up until a second after I hit the button, failing to save the ball

Quoted from Scala:

Sorry I meant-the shield staying in the up position with all the multi-balls going at same time. It is torturous for me and if they eliminated half the balls and made the shield have to be used with taking your hands off flippers-much more enjoyable. Has anyone tried taking out some balls-I am curious if that would even work

It comes up when you release the button, because until then the code doesn't know if you're trying to use the shield or a ranged attack (holding the button down longer). You can speed up the shield a bit by flicking the button quickly, get your finger off there asap.

But I agree it's a disappointing game mechanic for something that feels like it should happen instantly. Not to mention you have to reach over there from the flipper button to begin with. Like BKSOR magna save, but worse.

When a games features or rules are heavily tied to frequent taps and/or long holds of the center lock bar button I tend to check out in general.

The reason is that the shield only raises when you *release* the button, which is a split second after you press it in. The software has to wait for that since first it has to see if you're holding it long enough to do the ranged weapon instead of the shield. Yes, it's aggravating design.

For taking out balls to tame the dragon multiball - that should be doable, I haven't seen it on D&D in particular but every other Stern will play fine with balls missing at game start. (I played a Led Zep once with only one ball because all the rest were stuck under the upper ramp. You could even start "multiball" without any more balls, and it would end as soon as the ball saver did.) Also if you're talking about D&D premium, there's likely software adjustments to disable the dragon shooting balls (most premiums have that, like Godzilla's building can be turned off) which would keep it to 6 instead of 8.

I look forward to the day Stern decides to ditch the teaser --3days--> teaser trailer --1 week--> full trailer nonsense. We all know it's Pokemon. I swear if the first thing they release is a 5 second video of a pokeball that fades to black, I'm going to lose it.

Ahhh that makes sense. I haven't played it enough to know about the ranged attack when holding it. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I play

They should just not market the product because the theme leaked lol?

#65784 9 hours ago

Wish they did a Resident Evil instead of a Walking Dead remastered.

Surprised there aren't more video game adaptations. Maybe licenses cost too much.

But I bet in 10-15 years there will be a Fortnite as those players are all adults by then

Long past time to bite the bullet and dump the coin slots. I bet the cost of a bill collector alone would be comparable to (or even cheaper) than the coin mechs and coin box. Think of it like the removal of the head phone jack in phones. Yeah, people initially missed it but the simple fact was that it’s time had come and gone (and I say that as someone who still regularly uses an old click wheel iPod with wired headphones).

If you consider a 4 second teaser-trailer teaser good marketing, sure. Don't forget the obligatory countdown to when you'll actually see the game, either.

Barrels dropped the whole WMH trailer and sold out in two days.. "marketing" has nothing to do with it.

I get your point. All I'm saying is, if you could control for such a thing, I'd bet there would be no difference in sales of teaser trailer -> trailer vs full trailer. Maybe I'm wrong.

For a licensed machine maybe makes a difference? Goonies sells out on teaser alone, but an original theme like Winchester needs a full trailer to sell it?

Stern’s full trailer really proved to be the catalyst for selling out FOTE and TWDr.

#65798 5 hours ago

Teaser trailers feel dumb to anyone who isn't surprised by them.

But if you didn't know anything was coming (like most people) then they're something to get excited about.

If you read this thread constantly it feels like you've spent months discussing the same thing, because you have. But for everyone else they just get a few days to speculate and build interest before the full trailer drops.

The world is jam packed with distractions, people are tuned into their own bubbles, and tuned out of everything else. It's hard to reach them. A company like Stern has to fire as many shots as they can to try and get noticed.

Winchester selling out or Beetlejuice selling out is because they're small runs, aimed at a small and highly specific audience. Stern aims for far beyond Pinside.

I will never forget when the teaser came out for Metallica. I almost got chills. I think I watched it several times. It would be many years later before I owned a Met prem since I wasn't ready to buy NIB back then. But yeah, teaser trailers do have their place and purpose.
