Expanded diameter is meaningless: People frequently nitpick over the final diameter of hollowpoints recovered from gel. Expanded diameter has almost no impact on terminal performance because most of the improvement over FMJ comes from the geometric change from a round nose to wide and relatively flat nosed expanded hollowpoint bullet. When a hollowpoint demonstrates large expanded diameter, the edges of the petals are usually very rounded, and thus don't really improve performance that much because they will tend to just push tissue aside instead of cutting it. The ideal hollowpoint is one that expands consistently from a variety of barrel lengths, achieves the upper end of penetration or even exceeds FBI specs (18"-20") to ensure barrier performance, functions reliably, is accurate, hits to the same point of impact as your training/stockpile ammunition, and has wide availability without supply chain issues. The number displayed on calipers when measuring the expanded bullet should way at the very bottom of your priorities in selecting defensive ammo.

Why does .357SIG exist?: It's almost identical to 9mm +p+ and is built on the exact same guns. It operates at lower pressure, but 9mm has a smaller case diameter, and thus allows more chamber wall thickness, making the pressure difference irrelevant. There's literally no point to it.
