Heavy snow will continue to spread across the Northeast this evening and overnight, with rapid accumulations (1–2”/hr) producing totals around 2 feet in parts of the region. Catastrophic ice impacts linger farther south with prolonged power outages.

A major winter storm will shift its impacts into the Northeast with
heavy snow this evening and overnight. Over the Mid-Atlantic, sleet
and freezing rain will diminish overnight. Extremely cold air behind
the storm will prolong dangerous travel and infrastructure impacts
through this week.
Heavy snow amounts exceeding 1 foot are expected from the
northern Mid-Atlantic into the Northeast, with snowfall totals
around 2 feet in parts of the Interior Northeast and New England.
The snow will rapidly accumulate this evening over much of the
Northeast at rates of 1-2 inch per hour. The heavy snowfall and
rates will lead to widespread travel disruptions and closures, some
of which may persist for several days.
Impacts will continue across parts of the Mid-South, Southeast, and
Mid-Atlantic. Long-duration power outages, extensive tree damage,
and extremely dangerous or impassable travel conditions are likely.
