Reviews

(episode four) it's basically more dn3d. as for the new content, i like the pig tank, but not the shrinker alien nor the expander weapon. the last level is quite confusing.

Un des classiques du boomer shooter 🤪🤪 What are you Waiting for ?? Christmas !?

duke nukem 3d is incredibly silly and funny even know almost 20years later after this version was released, the first few levels and the last episode are just stupid, silly and bizarre and i love them, i dont love when they shy away from the silliness and then its just a generic shooter with some quips, it also can get really hard and at times bullshit for some reason.

"don't have time to play with myself" and "yipee-kye-ay motherfucker" are my favorite ones that made me laugh out loud.

Note that my rating only applies for Episode 4. Other than that, it's probably the best experience you can get for Duke Nukem 3D, assuming that you're into that and have the right emulator. I can definitely say it for myself having quite enjoyed the game - except for the slimes (I am still traumatized).

Graphics: 5/5 - Okay, you need to look at this from the time of its release. Doom was still king on the FPS market and 3D shooters still hadn't fully emerged yet with Quake. This psuedo 3D environments + 2D enemy sprites was both refreshing and jaw-dropping. Mixed in with fantastically detailed texture work and complex sprites, this was a beautiful game.
Story: 3/5 - Duke Nukem returned from Space only to find the aliens attacked Earth in his absence and took all the babes. It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum and... you know the rest! Duke's one liners make this even better as he puts his two cents in to every situation.
Gameplay: 5/5 - This game is fun! I won't lie and say there are a few stages in episodes 2 and 3 that can drag a bit and I'm never keen to replay them, but that does not damper my spirits when it's time to gib and gorefest my way through dozens of aliens! Every weapon is useful and the speed of Duke is fast and fluid. Jumping and platforming never feels forced and being able to interact with just about every object was really neat! Puzzles were thankfully kept to a minimum.
Music/Sound: 4/5 - A good chunk of the music is great pulse-pounding riffs and tunes to get your blood pumping. Many are catchy and great to listen to off game. However, another good majority are atmospheric, moody, brooding and not really setting the proper tone for unadulterated gibbing. The sound effects of the aliens are spot on creepy and terrifying. The weapons are punchy and powerful. Sound design is king here. The downer batch of music tracks is what brings this down a tad.
Replayability: 5/5 - I will not hesitate to relive my glory days of old when I was most definitely FAR too young to be playing this on my dad's old Windows 3.1! Each episode of the game has a completely different theme and each level has new challenges and a unique level design that is most likely some pop culture reference. It's a joy to come back to this game.

Overall score:
88/100 - This is a wicked addition to your FPS collection. This is one of the early pioneers of the genre right after Doom that pushed the envelope and dared to expand the scope of the genre by boosting interactivity between player and level design. Introducing things such as mirrors, subways, moving vehicles and changing level landscapes.

Mastered - Beaten all levels on hardest difficulty and found all secrets in every level.

Note:
All scores take into account the environment and year the game was released in. 5/5 graphics for NES does not equal 5/5 on a PS2, for example. If a game has achievements, I do not count this towards 'mastering' the game - I'll detail what I consider mastering, but it usually means completing the bulk if not all of the game's content.

Balls, balls, balls, balls, balls
The boomerist of shooters. Whereas Doom became iconic duke became irrelevant soon after. In true boomer fashion he was unable to adapt or get proper sequels. The referencial lines remind me of GEX for teens, but they are delivered so well and generally not bogged down by incomprehensible celebrity references.
The game feels an episode short which was fixed with this version and has more great city levels like Duke burger. Episode 2 however is pretty bad, a lot of choke points, ganks, and sentry drone spam. It's always a drag.
Your arsenal always felt lacking to me. I prefer conventional weapons over weird stuff like the ice and shrink ray thats hard to gauge. Especially trying to shrink Battlelords by hitting their leg?????? Also screw the laser trip bomb, nobody got time for that.
And the holoduke is notoriously useless. A Flak jacket would been perfect with all your explosives but sadly no, you gotta take every explosion on your massive pecks (and balls).
Duke 3D is a good time but it always felt the weakest out of the main build engine games for the gimmicky arsenal, worthless holoduke and episode 2. You be the judge. Bitch

The Birth bring up the game to 5 stars for me, good ass episode

, Atomic Winter e a melhor, Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach
