Every Memorial Day the Fort Knox military base opens up their restricted areas for several hours to civilians to have access to the over one hundred cemeteries on the post. While the primary purpose of our trip was to check out the cemeteries, we ran across quite a few of these abandoned tanks along the sides of the road while we were driving. While most of the public is familiar with Fort Knox as the location where the U.S. Treasury has their bullion depositary guarded, it is also a...

Another glamor shot of the array. This site is included on most tours and I was drastically underestimated how interesting it would be - I originally thought it was just the array, but there is a whole command center attached to it that feels like a Soviet version of NORAD. The facility is massive. By Kebbins
In 1951, the Soviets began building this complex, 5.800 hectare. The purpose of it were to house approx 15.000 soldiers (and civilians), and they kept a large amount of tanks, various missiles - including nuclear missiles, ready to launch from both mobile launching units and missile stands in the area. As with most of the Soviet activities in the GDR, the German knew nothing of what were going on here. #Secret #Soviet #Store #Bunker #Nuclear #Warheads

A hike led us on the trail of an old cave abandoned in the middle of a forest. It is left behind as a remnant of the pleasures of the nobles in the late 1800s. The cave housed several Russian bears for a couple of decades, and although now somewhat dilapidated, it is still easy to see where the bears slept and bathed. The care caused too much trouble for the nobelman, and they were given to the Zoo in Copenhagen. #urbex #urbanexploration #abandoned #decay #abandonedplaces #urbexphotography
