now i know i’m not the only mf who saw THAT guy’s post earlier today. Thoughts?
Cookhouse Malay Uncle (Khatib camp)
He said since I rated 1 star, he doesn’t want to see me at the cookhouse any longer. He also said he doesn’t wish to see me outside.
I’m a arty spec 23SA
What to do now?
hi guys, i have a st coming up soon for defaulting ippt and after scrolling/asking around about the punishment i’m pretty sure i’ll have to pay a fine. but at the moment i’m currently having financial difficulties to the point where i don’t think i can afford to pay the fine, is it possible to ask the officer for me to pay the fine a little later? or do i have to pay on the spot during my st?
What can I expect at Bukit Gombak base as a admin support asst?
My posting order states that camera handphones are not allowed?
How can I go there from Bukit Batok MRT?
I always stumble upon US army meme pages making these kind of memes. Wondering if anyone ever seen it happen in SAF or even the Hometeam branches? Please do share.
So I just heard from my friend that you are only allowed to bring home 1 set of clothing after booking out. My original plan was to bring 5 sets of clothes to last me throughout the week to avoid doing laundry for anything else other than my uniform. Then I would bring those 5 sets home to wash and book in with fresh laundry the following week. Is this not possible? Also could anyone tell me how many sets of clothing are provided and what are they used for? Im hearing a lot of different things and not sure which is correct
not sure if this has been said before, but for those spending the festive season in camp for duty or whatever, it can feel lonely especially after seeing everybody celebrating with family.
but just wanted to say that this difficult period of our lives too shall pass, and this time next year/2 years later we'll be back with our loved ones once again.
so stay strong, keep looking forward and merry christmas one and all 🎄
Hi do NS still check recruits or any nsf people’s phone and inspect them?
not that I have anything to hide, its just better to keep my things private and not let anyone snoop around my informations.
Seriously, it is impressive how SAF manage to feed you the most disgusting food on the planet. It's like they put "must be able to cook up literal horseshit" in the cookhouse chef job description.
I don't get how anyone with a sane mind actually chooses to work as a cookhouse chef. If you had a gun to my head and force me to work as a cookhouse chef, just pull the trigger bro.
was wondering if the benefits justify the costs of membership. Also what is the difference in benefits and costs for pnsf and regulars? Any hometeam members with related experience? Do most regulars/pnsf pay for hometeam membership?
Heard during a gathering that acquaintance is combat fit but have never attend ippt since ord 6 years ago … how could that be … if he get caught how will the punishment be? Start from $50 fine , or considered 6 strikes and compound the fines like $50 + $100 + $150 + …. Or straightaway DB liao
Hey everyone! Happy holidays!
About me:
I was born in Singapore but moved to the United States when I was one. My parents are both of Chinese descent.
Funnily enough, one of my parents is a Singaporean citizen born in Singapore but also raised in the America. Another parent is an American citizen born and raised in Ohio, but to Malaysian Chinese immigrants.
All my other siblings are Americans only, but for whatever reason, my parents decided that I should be the Singaporean one.
Being of full-blooded Singaporean/Malaysian Chinese descent, I have some exposure to Singaporean/Malaysian Chinese culture (mainly food). However, I have lived in exurban America for my entire life. I have an American accent and I sound ‘fake’ if I try to speak Singlish. I know a little bit of Mandarin, but can’t speak any dialect like Hokkien or Cantonese. I love country and rap music, American football, and NASCAR, but know little about Singaporean pop culture or sports.
I have to go to Singapore to complete my National Service soon, and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to prepare myself. Anybody in similar situations or know of people in similar situations? How do I connect with people there?
One of my brothers serves in the U.S. Navy. Is military service in Singapore similar? If I were not Singaporean I would probably want to serve in the American military anyways, so I’m looking forward to it. I’m just unsure of how I will be viewed in Singapore.
How is dating like? What sports do people watch? What music do they listen to?
I have visited Singapore only once (that I can remember of) but I proudly hold a red Singaporean passport. I would want to live or work there someday, and I hope to immerse myself in the culture!
Btw, if you have any questions for me or my upbringing I would love to answer them as well!
Edit: Thank you so much for all the great responses! It seems like Singapore is a very friendly and welcoming place, and I could not be prouder to be a Singaporean citizen. I can’t wait to go there!
Like what the title says, I got a call up notification despite having a valid exit permit, I already applied for deferment, but I heard that is I shouldn't be called up with a valid exit permit. I also apparently have an open IPPT window... does any one have any experience with this? Also I was in SPF.
Edit: removed info to preserve privacy
i recently enlisted in early January and started to break out like crazy. just wondering if this is normal and if it is, did it get better eventually? thank you
Saw a CFC storeman at a supply base with the Combat Fitness Trainer badge. Wonder how he got that.
Others I've seen are ME1s with CSB, Airforce ME1 with Guards tab, and Transport Staff Sergeant with Ranger tab.
To those people who have claimed or those who are familiar with the process, can I claim service injury for a meniscus tear which happened back in bunk where I twisted my knee and did not think of much but eventually it caused more and more pain then I reported sick after a few days and after a year, I had undergone surgery for the meniscus tear.
Feel free to ask for more information as I'm not sure what's needed. Thank you!!
The food is obviously not god tier (so special that you will write a review about it), but it's not atrocious as people like to bash. To me it's like a normal standard cai fan, or some airline lounge food.
Obviously every cookhouse is different, so these are the cookhouses I'm basing my experience off
-
ITI cookhouse Jurong Camp
-
ADF cookhouse Nee Soon Camp
-
BMTC School 1 and SAFTI Cookhouse
I actually quite like the different gravies with rice it's quite satisfying too. Why do people like to bash? Or did I get lucky throughout my whole NS?
On the same topic - what's your best and worst cookhouse meal?
hi guys im signing on as transport supervisor, whats the journey like? do we go SCS ? whats the training like and what to expect. is there a chance to get posted to airforce ?
I (PES B1 PTP batch) fractured both wrists doing something stupid (not chao keng) in camp, was sent out to cgh and did xray. they put me in 2 cast and told me i had fractured both of my wrists. I am now resting home with a pretty lengthy Hl. seeing that I've only passed ippt and not done any high keys, i will be OOC, but how will this affect the rest of my service? p.s : I know it sounds stupid breaking both wrist.
hi guys im gonna enlist in jan next year and I haven't really been exercising a lot ever since I passed my ippt in march so all my ippt stations are shit. like I'm talking about 16+mins for 2.4. not super worried about pushups and situps cause those can be trained faster imo.
that being said will running/doing exercises really slow sabo your bunkmates/buddy? something like "eh xxx run so slow, taking his own bloody sweet time isit? all of y'all go run one more round to join him". lowkey i dt mind being punished myself but I'd hate to sabo other people and be known as the sabo king and be hated. other than that im also super blur at times so pls give advice.
i’m 19 this year awaiting my A level results and i’m heavily considering signing on in the army after my A levels.
is there any advice/things i should know?
for context ive always been quite interested in the army but i didnt sign up for a scholarship during As. but now seeing my friends in the army is making me feel really restless and it kind of seems like the life i would want right now, even if its difficult.
if any female could let me know why they signed on & their experience i would love to know!
I know "Left-tenant" is what we should use since it's british, but it sounds so dumb and "Lieu-tenant" sounds cooler.
Hi guys, probably my first post in reddit, but uhhh i have a qn.
I recently received my vocation, but the problem i realised during the 1st week is that we are wearing uniforms and boots for close to or more than 12 hours a day.
I have eczema since birth, but its not so visible on the open parts of my body but only seen on my foot.
Recently, i started getting rashes on the back of my shoulders and on the sides of my thighs and calves are itchy.
I went to NSC and got a memo and showed the MO, but he checked my skin (early morning, Tuesday, never wear uniform for close to a week) and he said he is convinced that i dont have a problem and refused to give me excuse uniform.
The thing is i told him it was itchy on my shoulders and my legs but he said there is nothing there. But i am the one with the itch, i am the one who suffers everytime i wear uniform, i am the one who bleeds from my foot everytime i wear boots.
I have seemed to have exhausted all the ways of getting excused uniform. I already have excuse sunlight but that is not enough. In the vocation they still make us stand in the sun.
Please help, this has taken a great toll on my mental health and i even purposely scratched and scratched my foot till it bleeds because of my stress and because nobody believes me.
For the first time in years I am unable to book any slots for Maju FCC. Is it just me or did something happen to Maju FCC?
I am currently finishing up my found term in SCS, was from 5 SIR mono intake so the chances of me being posted to infantry for pro term is quite high - hence, curious about what life is like during infantry pro term.
-
What does day to day life look like during pro term?
-
How's Exercise Starlight (heard all infantry pro term cadets are going to starlight from now on)
-
How much admin time will I have?
Actually I'm just curious about the breakdown of infantry pro term, would appreciate it if someone could give a rundown! Thanksssss
Recently got informed that i have a chance to go US for exchange and overseas exercise
However, im going on a ord holiday with my family to Japan 2days before i fly back to SG
I rly want to go coz i nvr been to US and i always want to train and meet the US MARINES
But my plane tickets and all to Japan has alr been booked, and if i do go to US then i will be sacrificing abt 2-3days of my japan trip, which might include going to tokyo Disneysea, mt fuji all that
[My dad also say since im a NSF that ORD alr, there's nothing beneficial for me to go, no bonus points or anything]
What r yr thoughts on this, shld i go for the overseas exercise or go my family holiday?
Hi I’m someone (female) who is thinking of applying for the SAF scholarship and I think I have not bad results (70RP(new system)+H3 Dist) and a decent portfolio (vp of my school SC, ESIS, HSP, academic awards, Volunteered for MPS etc)
May I ask if I get the scholarship, will I be called back during my Uni holidays? And will it be for my entire holiday? Because I feel that I would like to have some time to spend and travel with my friends! Thanks!
Edit: and also, when I do I disrupt for studies? Because I applied for Cambridge and Uni only start in October!
Seen a lot of mixed answers when browsing this sub. Some say 10 years, some say 5-6 years. Even in camps I've seen some young looking ME2-1s and some old looking ones. Also seen ME3s who look like they are in their 50s. What's the actual answer?
Hello, I’m a current NSF in BMT with a PES status of B2. I suffer from a minor bone abnormality which does not affect my physical capabilities. Ive known about my PES status for about a year but was honestly too lazy to go and have it upped. However, I learned recently that not my pathway to command school is locked.
I had a close personal friend who went to and completed OCS, and this guy was like a mentor to me. Given that he passed recently, I would really like to go as well.
Is there anyone who was or is in a similar situation to me and can give some advice/insight as to whether theres a point to recoursing BMT as a PES B1 personnel? I already spoke to my PC about up PES-ing during my current BMT but that option seems unlikely. Thanks
So like I went to study for a private diploma and deferred many times, as I had to get my certificate then my diploma, and before that I took private Os, so I deferred multiple times.
First three times is sent to BMTC, and the most recent is SCDF, and recently my deferrement application got approved again and i’ll be graduating on 6th March.
Where do you guys think I’ll be posted to?
like which month intake or what not,
please share any experiences
Asking because ive been searching online and found no info related to its exact location nsar bedok camp 2
Online at clicking into the Punggol Park location it says 11 Hougang Ave 10 but another Reddit post 7 months ago says its actually at the entrance plaza so was wondering if anyone recently did it there could point to a more precise location? Thanks!
Context: i'm a pes e9 recruit. I recently got shortlisted for a test to become a transport operator but wasn't given enough time to weigh the pros and cons. i passed the test without difficulty as im only e9 for some condition that doesn't affect daily life. As such im otherwise perfectly healthy. I was told it would be a high chance of becoming a TO after passing this test but there would be a second round of the exact same test when i get into the vocation.
So my question is, is it worth taking the TO vocation or should I try to get out of it (ie keng and fail the second round of tests) in the hopes of getting ASA/SA. I would definitely prefer a stay out vocation and after seeing multiple posts about TOs being stay ins, I regret passing the first round of tests. I'm also afraid they might give me a worser vocation as I'm not sure if I'll even secure a ASA/SA vocation. Any help is much appreciated 🙏🙏
I am attending my first NS FIT this year and am wondering if I need to shave my beard and moustache? I’ve had my beard for many years now since I am 32 years old. I was overseas for 10 years and this is my first time.
How is life as PES E9 from BMT all the way to till ORD for ( SAF, Police, SCDF ). Can stay in camp? etc.
Had a virus going around my coy and i came down with viral flu + fever during confinement, and i RSI given MC for 2 days. Now im extremely scared im going to ruin my bmt progress
Fyi im from enhanced batch, but i think this MC will cause me to miss out from the first route march and some weapons handling test. Also think my heat acclimatisation is ruined.
Anyone can share insight on whether my bmt timeline will be affected? and how likely i will need to come back on weekends to fulfill HA requirements? Tried clarifying with commanders but they were terrible at explaining HA and didnt reveal anything about redoing route march
Currently in a stay out unit and have a dental appointment this week. I heard from my senior that it’s possible to just siam the whole day if it ends late enough, but when I told my sup about it he said to come back after and give a time chit. Now I’m worried I’ll have to go back to camp for just a few if it ends early enough because of the time chit, which is pretty meaningless. Any advice on how to get the day off?
if I've done a medical review and been given an updated pes status because they've cleared my condition, will my perm excuses relating to that condition be cleared too? ie, had a leg injury a number of years ago, got it cleared by mindef, bit still see ex rmj, squatting, and heavy loads
Really not trying to CK but I've been feeling sick and am continuing to feel sick. Currently in my second week of BMT and already took 4 days of MC, will I have to repeat BMT if I start going RSI for the next few days? I have a condition that makes me more prone to certain sicknesses, but I also know I can't take MC like 3 times a week.

What is the schedule like for PTP and how much admin time do we get daily?
-
What is my most likely vocation and will it be mono-intake
-
What is the PTP experience like and what happens to the people we meet in PTP? Do we continue the remaining 22 months together or do we split up?
-
What are some common Do's and Don'ts for PTP specifically
So recently I booked a MA to attend my university interview cus my boss didn't wanna give me off and I ran out of leaves. I didn't go for my MA (ik I'm fking retarded) and went directly for my interview. My superiors found out and are currently discussing what to do with me. What are my possible punishments :
-
Worse case scenario
-
Scenario that has happened to y'all
Many thanks
Edit : official investigation has been started by my S1 with an IO assisting
recently i went to the MO for mental health issues and he told me he would refer me to a SAF psychologist. not sure if he meant if it was SCC/PCC/Paracounsellors. would my superiors know? im not sure where to check for the appointment as well.
Just got my pes today and yes I know grass is greener on the other side, I might not know how tough bmt at tekong and being in an active role is. But I genuinely don't understand how I got pes c, I'm physically average albeit slightly on the skinnier side, I only went to imh once 2+ years ago and when I went back for psychiatrist follow-up checkup everything went fine. Had slightly invasive surgery this year resulting in pes d but they ended up finding only very minor issues, gastritis etc. Medical reports and tests all ok.
I guess I'm just quite shocked because of all the stigma surrounding the people who go to kranji but genuinely asking for those that didn't expect to be pes c and below, what did you do to make the most out of your time there? Also means cannot be k9 unit ah? Cause I was really hoping for that :(
Thinking of signing on but only have a Higher Nitec cert, Doing WSDip but probably dropping out soon. Im thinking whether or not its worth it to get a SIM Diploma and then signing on with it, have asked ARC but no response. Would it be worth it to get that private diploma or would just signing on with higher nitec be better?
So I read the ASA and Medic post and wanted to ask the same qn.
Only acceptable response:
Hello all, I'm going to HTA on the 11th of feb and I have a few questions regarding it's vocations. I'm PES B1 and I have zero clue what vocations are available to me after POBC.
- What is the process like before knowing where you are posted to?
- Do I have to be interviewed or IPPT Bronze/Silver/Gold or be in perfect health? (Idk if this affects where I can go but I have eye colour deficiency)
- Are there any vocations that NSFs are more likely to go?
I'm not too sure if this is confidential, if it is, I'd love to know anything else related to the vocations or any stories from those who finished/currently doing their service. Much thanks!
I will be heading into SPF on the 14th of January, but I have been sick for the past few days. For context, for whatever reason, I always get a bad sickness / viral infection around this time of the year.
I haven't gone to the doctor but I have been having a bad cough, loss of appetite, a lot of grogginess etc.
What's the process like if I'm still sick on d-day? Should I still report and see how I'm feeling?
Or should I take MC and delay my heading in (which I'm not that keen to do, but at the same time, if I report and miss out a lot of adjustment week won't I be very behind my squad mates)
Any advice?
Still in bmt confinement, having first visit to emart soon. Can anyone share tips on what you wish you bought more of for field camp or anything else?
Right now thinking of getting extra garters, socks and admin shirts but wondering if theres anything extra worth getting to prep for later conducts
Also is it advisable to spend all $120 on the first trip?
Since I live quite near an FCC I want to max out the nsfit and 3 IPPT paid attendance money. But not sure if I should do fail, fail, gold (risky cos I'm barely able to get gold so might end up retaking more than 3x). Or do gold, fail, fail (but not sure if they even allow retaking if gold)
Any past guardsmen that have went to Valiant mark
How's training there, what did u all actually do there
How's the US MARINES, are they fun to interact with
Is there any R&R aft the exercise?
I'm a 20 year old pes E male who just started a month ago and i just developed a chronic disease called polycythemia where basically my body is developing too much red blood cells to the point where i have the risk of getting blood clots, strokes and heart attacks.
found this out after having to be hospitalized since i have been vomiting constantly, i'm always dizzy/giddy everyday as well as on the day of the hospitalization my vision became fuzzy and i couldnt see clearly at all even when i have my glasses on (its been 1 week and sometimes i see that my vision starts being a little fuzzy.
I do want to serve ns to be able to guide my siblings on how ns life is as well as making my parents proud but at the same time i do not want to be a burden to my platoon and future units as the risk of my chronic condition feels too much.
I do not know what to do at all now and i feel lost and confused.
I got a friend who's in Commando but always says that he wished he went into tekong BMT instead as he had always wanted to go to OCS.
Now I'm just an ASA so I wouldn't know which is harder, so what do yall think? I always tell him I think Commando is more impressive since they do Airborne and are like discounted Special Forces without the tab I guess. Though I guess being commissioned has its "prestige".
Thoughts?
I’m PES BP and scheduled to POP on 7 March. I’ve been struggling significantly in Tekong. Beyond low mood, I’ve been unable to eat the cookhouse food without feeling nauseous and vomiting, for most of BMT I’ve been surviving mainly on oat bars and peanuts.
I’ve raised this with my encik and spoken to multiple OOs. One referred me to CareHub, but another felt it wasn’t necessary, so nothing has really progressed. I still feel unable to adjust and often feel helpless and depressed in camp, often having breakdowns.
I’ve already completed BTP. If I complete IFC in the coming weeks but subsequently report sick to the MO and am given a long-term status, will I still be able to POP? If I do get a long-term status, will my vocation posting happen together with my peers, or later?
Also, during PES reassignment for BP, is it possible to be given PES C if I have a status?
Questions I am asking is for Kranji camp as I am not sure if rules differ from tekong etc
-
Is HPB Free Tracker allowed in BMT? Was hoping I could farm HPB points while doing exercise in NS haha. Or totally not allowed at all especially during exercises?
-
Is USB cables allowed? Not like wall plugs, but like regular usb cables connecting to powerbank, as I heard that kranji cannot use wall plugs, and according to packing list it says no usb cables or something? Does that mean only use powerbank with integrated cable?
-
Is electric shaver and toothbrush allowed? Shaver is thise cheap china that charges with type c (I using this as don’t need cream so can save time).
Toothbrush is those oral B ones that need plug, but can last for quite a while without charge (so just use manual one for a few days before booking out ). Or totally banned?
4. Is free Casio watch given? I heard it is
5. How many bags are you allowed to bring and how many bags are given there
6. Can kranji camp pump you
7. Are you allowed to bring portable fan into BMT (those that charge by micro usb or usb c)
Thanks in advance,
What happens if I ORD before taking IPPT in my 2nd year? I got gold for first year but been on long term status for the past 10 months but it just ended and honestly very lazy to take it. Wondering what wld happen like will I need to come back etc.
Kind of concerning. I head recruits need 7 hours of rest. But in reality, they will sleep much later or wake up much earlier to settle personal hygiene and even prepare for next day activities. Isn't this practice of forcing '7 hours rest' deceiving SAF directive somehow? It is unhealthy because recruits cannot pay attention in training and will cause safety issue. Is SAF/Mindef or any commanders in authority aware of this practice or it is just fine since it meet the requirement on paper?
Just want to add on: they didn't give sufficient admin time which ate into the 7 hours uninterrupted rest. So the actual rest time is way lesser not to mention the sleep hours.
Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some advice from those familiar with SAF career schemes or who’ve gone through something similar.
I’m currently an NSF in SCS as a cadet. I hold a diploma and also have a confirmed university placement (NUS Nursing, starting in 2027). I recently applied for the ME scheme under the medical expert track.
I’ve read that it’s possible to sign on as an ME4 trainee with a diploma, but I’m a bit unclear on how this works in practice, especially for medical-related roles.
I wanted to ask:
1. Is it actually possible to sign on to the ME4 medical expert track before university, while still holding only a diploma but with a confirmed uni placement? 2. If so, would one typically continue and pass out from SCS as a 3SG first, or be transferred out to another track? 3. For those who signed on early, does early sign-on usually come with regular pay (above NSF allowance) and university sponsorship, or does that only kick in later? 4. Alternatively, is it more common to sign on closer to ORD instead?
Would appreciate any advice or firsthand experience. Thanks!
Hello all. I will be ording in nov this year. I’m keen to sign either 6mths/9mths STC before uni in 2027, as I do enjoy being in my unit and I have no plans post ord. I am currently a 3sg in a TI.
-
What is the rough pay for a 3SG A levels holder?
-
Do I have the opportunity to uprank to 2SG or further?
-
Would I get posted out to another unit?
Hi so my bf is going in for ns sometime this year. The initial enrolment letter already came for Feb, but he deferred. Is there any way to know an estimate of when his "new" enrolment date will be? What are the usual enrolment dates if there are (for scdf) ? And another question - how come he don't need go Tekong? Like the letter that came straight said he was posted to scdf? I'm so confused please help 😔🙏
Hello everyone, would just like to ask if anyone has received their letter for February?
Also for 3rd Feb,is it SPF,SCDF or SAF?As it seems like 3rd Feb enhanced batch is not for SAF,anyone can confirm this?Thank you
Hello guys, I'm a C9 ASA in Navy somewhat restless about my current state.
Been in service for 10 months ald, Feb 25 batch.
I am excused stay-in and FLEGs due to depression that developed in school, which i declared pre-enlistment. Also have diagnosed ADD (ADHD without the hyperactivity part.), though that is not declared.
I am considering Up-PESing because i would really like a foundation of structure and regimentation to build on. Structuring my day myself tends to be a point of annoyance for me. I have difficulty adhering to whatever i arrange for myself. Daily routine is my 8-5 then gym and draw/play games. Not ideal when i go for uni. Would additionally like to experience the basic soldiering (Field camp, live firing.)
Yes, I understand i would be throwing away my slack ASA life right now. My work still has some value to it, but really doesn't give me satisfaction. Plenty of free time in the office to read and draw for me, but i resent being so inactive.
I have been off antidepressants and ADHD meds for over a year now, having stopped taking them after graduation. I picked up gymming before i enlisted and that is my main method of keeping myself in check now. I do consider myself to be potentially mentally capable to be combat-fit.
I understand a memo from my shrink would help my case. I still have a few questions, though.
-
I tossed out or gave away most of my green issued items when i learnt of my vocation posting. Will SAF re-issue me items or must i compile, buy and bring them myself?
-
Would like to know the ideal way to wash/dry clothes if i end up going to Tekong. Don't have the experience as i was ESI and got to tumble my No4 every day.
-
Will i get posted out of Navy when i complete re-BMT? the possible vocations as a non-spec under navy are quite agreeable to me, but unsure if i will just be plugged into a shorter training period role in the SAF.
-
Can my Branch head just refuse my decision? for manpower reasons probably
TL;DR, C9 ASA wants more structure and activity and believes they can be combat fit. Would like some advice on Up-PES.
Please share your thoughts if you read allat. Thanks!
Hi guys I have upcoming PCC and I can’t make it. I couldnt contact them for a while and sent an email during this weekday.
Can I just call them direct to get it rescheduled? Thank you.
My boyfriend just got posted into monointake armour and I want to know what to expect. Is the training going to be very tough and will there be sufficient admin time? Which of the coy in BMTC school 3 a welfare coy?
Going to enlist soon on 5 Jan and im nervous asf and wanna know what will happen during the 1st week of NS
BTW my friends got posted on the same date as me but diff timings, does it mean that they will be in a different section from me or is it just MINDEF tryna prevent congestion on our way to tekong
I have an interest in signing on and i’ve been rejected multiple times when applying with the SAF.
One instance even the interviewer said he enjoyed the interview and thinks its gonna go well but next moment i received a rejection email from them.
So does it really matter that my family members past mistake is gonna effect me from getting a job with the government?
I never had to take 3-4 shits a day until I enlisted. Seriously, it's crazy. I used to be a once a day shitter. Cookhouse food lowkey laced with something ngl, probably a chemical to convince you that military conscription is perfectly normal with frequent pooping as a side effect

Hi everyone, I am currently a student waiting to enlist and just to give some context, after I run I usually drink 100+ cuz if not I would get headaches. I was just wondering if I am allowed to bring my own 100+ satchets to BMT?
Its a pretty weird question but I'd really really appreciate it if anyone knows if its ok🙏🙏
A few years back. BMT, kranji. They say no wet ration can bring inso i buy haidilao hotpot. Dry ration ah fark. Got caught, tio scolded…. But its really dry ration what 😡😡😡😤🤬
Sorry i still 377 after so many years — 生气气
Nsf here that hates my unit. Got 1x overseas exercise coming up some time in the next few months. Should i go for it? My family tells me its worth it to try a new country but i really dont like the people in cmap. in this situation would you go for the overseas exercise?
recently broke up a really toxic relationship that lasted 2 years and before that I had a 4 year relationship as well. I told myself that I needed a very long break before going into another rs but my bunkmates/friends are getting into relationships and I feel envious wanting that again; every night I think about what it would be like if I had someone; it’s lowkey affecting me during and outside of ns. Any idea what I can do to occupy my time
I’m sure many of you have noticed that manpower across SAF, SCDF, and SPF has been shrinking with every cohort due to the low birth rate. It’s becoming normal for one person to handle the workload meant for two, and as a result, NSF are being pushed to take on more responsibilities because fewer people are being posted in.
So the question is should it be time for Singaporean women to play a more active role in contributing to the country, especially when birth rates continue to fall? Whenever this topic comes up, the usual justification is “women can’t perform the same tasks as men,” but that isn’t entirely true. There are roles such as medics and nursing related postings where women could clearly contribute and help reduce the manpower burden on men. On top of that, women are already allowed to sign on as regulars, just like men. If that’s the case, why can’t they serve NS as well?
For decades, women have enjoyed the peace and stability built on men sacrificing two years of their lives to NS, yet they are not required to contribute in the same way. What do you think will happen in the future when manpower becomes so stretched that there aren’t enough NSF to fill every vocation?
Just curious to what everyone thinks is the hardest part about national service. All camps welcome, can give a brief explanation on why you think this is the hardest part about NS also.
Everytime I see NSF in SCDF they have to smoke secretly either at toilet or rooftop while SAF have designated spot for smoker. There was a few time I even encounter the encik secretly smoking in various location like bin center becos of higher up. I heard some say it's a bad look for the force but why is there so many privilege and leeway in SAF compare to MHA forces?
i suddenly realised today that i actually miss ns.
now that i’m in uni, i don’t really have any real free time. even when i’m not doing schoolwork, that time technically could be spent prepping for internships, certs, projects, ccas, networking, studying notes or just trying to make some money on weekends. it feels like i’m always mentally busy. free time doesn’t feel free anymore. it feels like guilt time.
but in ns, free time was really free time. if i booked out early or had rest in camp, that was it. just phone, netflix, sleep, slack, talk cock. weekends were actually weekends. no part time job to worry about, no assignments waiting, no deadlines creeping behind my back. i didn’t even cherish it properly then.
weird thing is, the best sleeps of my life happened in ns. my camp was cold and quiet, fan blasting the perfect way. there was this strange serenity in being away from civilisation. the outside world paused for a bit. nothing to chase. nothing to calculate. just sleep
i also kinda miss my platoon and bunkmates. we’re not that close anymore, and honestly we might never be again. but looking back, we were solid. forced to be together five days a week, going through nonsense and stress together, laughing at the most stupid things, complaining, suffering, celebrating book out like it was deepavali and chinese new year combined. friendships felt deeper because life was simpler.
and the thing is, it’s harder to form that kind of bond now. everyone has their own timetable. their own goals. their own path. back then we had no choice but to be with each other and because of that we genuinely bonded.
i also miss how life was simpler in general. even though ns wasn’t always good. saikang, tekan sessions, guard duty at 3am, and sometimes dealing with people who made you question humanity. it was shit at times, but it was straightforward shit. you always knew exactly what the problem was, who was involved and when it would end.
now stress feels messier. academic pressure, career pressure, financial pressure, social pressure. everything happens at once. back then, if i was tired, i slept. if i was bored, i used my phone. if the day was rubbish, tomorrow would be fine.
maybe ns wasn’t paradise but somehow everything felt more manageable.
but to be fair, if you told me to cherish ns when i was actually serving my two year personal hell, i would have told you to fk off. i feel it's it is something to only reminisce about when it's over
so recently i’ve been selected to go for the aeromedical test but the dates that i can choose for the test are when i’m already in tekong as im going into tekong early jan (the dates for the test are mid jan to feb). should i just choose any date or text rsaf?
What were you doing in your last few months to ORD? How was ur life like?
Just curious as to what life would look like in the business end of ur nsf life after ur atec is over especially for someone in a combat / support unit.
10 months to ord and shit man it seems so long
Hey guys, i am doing some research on mental wellbeing in NS as part of my sociology honours thesis. I wanted to ask if yall have encountered the narrative of resilience (e.g. during your training, by family members/mental health professionals etc.)? resilience as in the ability to bounce back from difficulties and continue striving in the face of adversities. im particularly interested in this concept as resilience is not only widely discussed as a core element in shaping psychological well-being, but also central to the military’s operational performance and capacities.
do yall think you’ve become more resilient after ns? if you dont subscribe to this idea of resilience, i would love to hear your perspective and experience as well :’)
feel free to dm me if u’d like to share privately as well~
Just got my camp pass last week and was wondering do I really have to use it everytime I enter or exit the camp or can I continue using my Miku card?
I don’t wanna risk dropping and losing it in public so if can I’d rather just leave it at home and never touch it.
i just got posted here, what do you guys do here? Is it chill?
So for context i got admitted to imh for mental issues and active suicidal plans. I am currently scheduled for pcc appointment this friday and wanna know whats likely to happen (my pes, vocation, follow up etc).
Also is there any slack vocation in combat vocation ?
Currently in PES B3 BMT on a temp 6 month PES status that expires in July.
In the event that I UpPES to Perm B2/B1 after the medical review, would I have to ReBMT under my new PES if I have already POPed from my current BMT in March?
Over the past few years, the government has increasingly relied on immigration to offset Singapore declining birth rate. Many new citizens are granted fast tracked citizenship, and some are able to avoid National Service altogether, while enjoying the same benefits as locally born Singaporeans.
At the same time, the ruling party continues to push the narrative especially through the media that it is an honour for locally born males to give up two years of their lives to serve the country even though policies often appear to prioritise foreigners over citizens.
The impact is especially visible in the job market. In a small country like Singapore, competition is already i ntense, and employment figures are further distorted by the large foreign workforce and broader economic changes. Even graduates from the Big 3 universities are struggling to find jobs now let alone those from other institutions.
How does it feel serving NS for a country that prioritises foreign workers over locally born Singaporeans in the job market? #OPENLEGPOLICY
I am 17m currently studying for A levels. I just got sent a letter from DIS telling me I am invited to apply for this scheme. It says, and I quote: "If you are interested in contributing to Singapore's digital defence during your Full-time National Service (NSF), we invite you to apply for our Cyber Work-Learn Scheme or Digital Work-Learn Scheme. Selected NSFs will be offered either the Cyber Specialist award (3- or 3-year scheme) or Digital Specialist Award (4-year scheme) to contribute in more advanced roles, and earn academic credits towards a relevant degree at the (universities in SG)."
Is this scheme a university scholarship or not? Or does it only cover digital related modules that they require you to learn for digital related vocations? Pls help, and anybody who took part in this scheme pls share your experiences as well. THANK YOU.
P.s. I am a pure humans student with H1 maths. Am I cooked if I enrol for this
Like legit, I first smelled it on my PS in BMT, and now I find that I smell it everywhere in my civilian life outside camp. And every time I do, I can identify it as the exact same smell. Definitely perfume as it smells botanical, but I lack the vocabulary to describe its smell... maybe lacking sweetness?
And now I'm curious as to what this perfume is and if it's really that popular among NS people or people in general.
i’m a guy who regularly works out and has put on a lot of muscle on frame at arnd 16% bf and i’m slightly over bmi of 27 and i worry that i will be sent back. i am in enhanced batch and i passed ippt and at the time of my medical screening i was like 8-10kg lighter lol.

I’m a temporary PES C9 due to my high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I’ve completed my School V BMT. Due to my PES status expiring soon, I went to the MO with a doctor memo to extend it. But when the doctor read the memo (which stated that my blood pressure and cholesterol levels are satisfactory) he mentioned that I will most likely be up PES. Still waiting for my medical board review appointment.
Can I ask what PES status would I be up PES to and would I be required to take IPPT?
Yesterday, OP @Moonshot2026 posted lambasting NSF not to take NS seriously and keng only when need arises.
I too gave my opinion on this matter 2 weeks ago: heres the link;
No point giving hoots about SAF when your skills doesnt mean anything in the outside world after ORD.
Those have rank, dont show off. No one in CV world cares, trust me.
You wont see it now as 18-20y.o but during/after your post-NS studies, your classmates e.g. local females, foreign students, new citizens, 1st gen males dont need to serve NS but have work experience which you dont have, Hahahahahah.
Also, theyve a better bargaining chip to use when future employers ask them if they have reservist obligation and in better position to take projects which could be yours but reservist take away that golden opportunity from you.
Dont believe me Uncle and Moonshot2026 - nvm, nvm.
Dont open big mouth kpkb when things goes south after ORD and reservist.
Whats the weirdest excuse you've heard/seen in your NS life
Im planning to retake o levels in y2 but I'm not sure if I should indicate interest for command school. I'll most likely be going to SCS since I only have O levels
hi everyone, I will be heading back for reservist as an SCS trainer at PLC.
Has anyone got assigned this vocation for reservist before and what to expect?
I'm currently an ASA and honestly I don't know what to do after NS. I came from an engineering diploma and I can't qualify for local uni, my networking is non-existent, and I can't sign on as I am Pes C9.
Can my NS as an ASA help me get any admin jobs outside? Or even sign on as DXO? Because I am feeling hopeless for post-NS life unless I work at like Mcdonalds or something
Asking for a bunkmate. He got injured during PTP and is on long HL (2+ months). Since he has missed the start of BMT, what is the likely outcome when he returns? Will he go through the OOC or the OOT process? Does he stay in Tekong to wait for po sting orders, or will he be sent to a unit straight away? Can he have a chance to redo BMT? Thank you.
Hi, can I check if all visits related to wisdom tooth surgery can be fully reimbursed under 11B for NSFs?
The surgery itself can be claimed, but what about the consultation visit before the surgery, and the follow up visit to remove stitches?
Or will the other visits related to the surgery be treated as dental claims (subsidised up to 85%) or will it be fully subsidised?
hello fellow SG,
posting this in the name of my girlfriend!
she's a paramedic trainee in southern Germany and as part of the final assessment for qualification as a state-certified paramedic, she needs to produce a thesis that systematically compares international emergency medical service (EMS) systems with the German EMS. and she has chosen Singapore for that!
SCDF was already contacted formally; however, personal perspectives would help to gain insights directly from practicing paramedics.
there are 7 questions, regarding the organisation and work structure.
if any of you would be willing to help her out, please contact me in DMs! your help is very much appreciated :)
Hii cadet here about to finish found term. I've been quite excited and anxious about where I might end up in pro term, so I just wanted to know the chances of ending up in different places. I know infantry is likely because it is the most common anyway, but theres a large group of mono infantry here, so I was wondering if I'd get to get smth different, as someone coming from a normal BMT coy? Theres also been people being asked about tattoos, body modifications, and BMT coys, and I heard rumors that it is about MP/Guards shortlisting? Is it true, and if it is, is it a good thing that my name appeared on the list, or does it really not matter?
how long does ARC process g50?
I will be taking my A levels next year and I have damn strong passion for cybersecurity and programming methodology, with lots of competition results to back it up. I came across the CySpec page on the dis website but it was very vague so I got a few qns.
-
from what I understood on the webpage, you will be doing on-the-job training and academic training from a specific university at the same time? Does that mean that the workload would be very heavy? do you have to do professional training and university degree on the same day, or does it alternate over a period of time?
-
How many people do they usually intake each year and what is the interview and selection process like?
-
what is the voc course going to be? (between bmt and university work-learn, on a timeline in dis website)
I want to ask how does the VSC & VSCC interview like is it the same as how they interview people who want to join as a Regular? or different is it hard to get in compare to regular?
And also do VSCC see PES status for male?
