Just want to provide an outside view to dim the "loudest voice" here. The article posted does not appear serious to me and in my opinion should not be taken serious. If you cannot curb yourself to not reach for terms like: "bigoted asshole", "toxic jerk", "mask-off, self-proclaimed fascists", all within the first three paragraphs, I don't think you are making a good-faith argument. This blog post really reads like unwarranted alarmism and kind of auxiliary to Immich accepting a grant. Then the comments following on this thread, kinda feel like troll bait? Some also feel like they were written by LLM. Sorry to the author if that is not the case, in any case: damn, chill. There can possibly be doubts about the FUTO organization's ultimate play here, I don't know, the organization seems kind of unknowable to me. They are currently one of the few organizations that actually provide an incentive for open-source developers to continue their work and seem to think seriously about the sustainability of the open source ecosystem, beyond "pray that people remain willing to work for free indefinitely". I think that people (meaning "me, myself, I am") are tired enough from incessant culture war in politics and media, please refrain from turning an open source photo backup solution into a political vehicle in the tired old nazis vs. good guys narrative. |
You should take like. 5 seconds to look up who Curtis Yarvin is and internalize that FUTO has enthusiatically platformed him before claiming this is mundame objections. |

It seems self-evident and completely obvious to you that because Curtis Yarvin is a dangerous ideologue, he should be actively deplatformed; anyone even thinking about platforming him should themselves be actively deplatformed; anyone remotely related to anyone even thinking about platforming him should be actively deplatformed, to transitive closure. I disagree, find this behavior itself tyrannical and creepy, but even if I would agree I maintain that Github is not the right place for revolutionary larping. You are asserting yourself to the developers and diverting their attention to something unrelated to building the software. The purpose of a Github repository is to store and discuss computer code. The maintainer explictly states that they do not want to repurpose it into a political discussion platform. So, "like", stop trolling please. |

You can just say you are a right wing reactionary that agrees with platforming fascist. I was hoping Immich didn't like fascists or being associated with them, which to be clear Yarvin is. He takes great pride in the fact while advocating that the rest of the country should be subservient to white tech bros. Attempting to remain appolitcal in light of that is a political decision, it's the big tent cop out ghost called out above. I use immich, I quite like it. I kinda liked the FUTO keyboard too, but I'm not willing to give cover to people like Yarvin by using things that actively and energetically associate with him. should note: This isn't a github repo, this is a 'discussion' forum attached to a project. Curtis Yarvin and his associates have talked to FUTO and attempted to pitch Eron on investing in his tech startup Urbit. Yarvin also sat down and talked to Eron about issues relating to technology. Eron did not agree to fund their work and did not find their pitch to be particularly compelling. That is the extent of FUTO's relationship with Yarvin and Urbit. The conversation has turned heated and devolved into unproductive back and forth name calling so we will be closing it. This has caused way more distraction than necessary, and we will not be commenting further on this topic. |
