It looks like there’s few game devs in here and I bet not everyone wants to start a dedicated thread for their game but still wants to show us what they’ve been working on, so here’s the place to do it!
Are you proud of some janky code you got working?
Greyboxed a new level?
Made some cool art for your game?
Wanna just yap about game dev?
Big or small, i wanna see whatever cool shit you’ve been making!
I’ll start by sharing some WIP art from my 1v1 stealth combat game, GROVE, I’ve been working on while learning Godot.
Here’s how it looked around a year ago, really basic leaves, ponds, mud etc in a top-down arena, before I started experimenting with a more gestural art style with real ink.
at the beginning i just wanted to see if i could do turn based combat in Bitsy and it turned into a full game, i’ve been working on it for a month now but i hope to release it in a week or two
It features 3d pets, dressup, minigames, a forum, pretty much what you expect from a virtual pet site. I’m using three.js and angry spite in order to make it.
A friend is helping me with the backend and programming and thanks to this it’s actually all working currently, it’s not just mockups very happy about that. You can create a pet, dress it up and go exploring for resources currently. Once I iron out all the bugs I’m moving on to a crafting system among other things. A preview of the 3d pet can be seen at umbra.pet
I’m doing this in order to keep myself sane in an insane world. Nothing about commercial game dev makes sense right now so I’m hiding in the past.
I make a cute optimistic browser game fueled by spite and fury
Oh my gooood I love that pet site, really cool concept so far I’d totally be interested in playing it once it’s ready! As a backend webdev this is absolutely something I’ve wanted to try doing for ages now but I never had the art skills to even try (I do now though! Maybe I should try it out sometime…)
This is super neat! I’ve never heard of bitsy before but I love the aesthetic. It reminds me of those old school MUDs that were playable through like a nokia with internet. I miss those a ton!
And now for my nonsense! Godscrown!
Over the course of two weeks I developed a card game for a game jam and I’ve got almost entirely good reviews from it which is like, the first game I’ve ever made with such a good reception. Had a couple folks on music/sfx and as soon as that got implemented I felt like I had a real game on my hands. It was such a cool experience. The Jam’s voting period ends in 15 hours from now and I’m real excited to see the results! My current avatar is from this game also!
There’s been some mild discussion over continuing to work on it, and I do have some small plans of adding controller support and finishing the story endings for unlockable characters… but also some much larger plans of redoing the art using 3D assets (mostly for consistent lighting/shader effects) because I’m more comfortable with that, but it’s a lot more effort and I didn’t have that kinda time for the jam
