Tsumihoroboshi is the first chapter where the translation feels off, it's like they dumbed it down for no reason and don't expect people to remember Meakashi. For example Shion didn't say Oryou's name twice, she just said 'baa-san' once.

I really didn't like Keiichi vs Rena in Tsumihoroboshi-hen, hopefully they did it better in the anime. The foreshadowing was as subtle as a brick to the head, I mean you knew from the water gun fight that they'll eventually duel. The police anime-gasping like it's a DBZ fight was goofy as hell but some of the kidnapped kids cheering for Rena was just bad writing. Then there's the weird flirty KeiRena banter, it honestly felt like the stakes were lower than in the water gun fight. Ryukishi isn't good at action scenes, his characters apparently have infinite stamina and can't land a hit on each other in a 10-15 minutes fight because they're just sooo evenly matched! Oh yeah, Keiichi sucks ass, he can't do anything on his own other than cry all day. Tsumihoroboshi-hen had a strong start and a weak end. As a concept I think their duel would've worked better if it happened at the dam construction site and they were all alone at the start, with their friends showing up near the end and hearing the metal clashes from a distance.

Keiichi's inner monologue was going on about how he wishes the water gun fight would never end and that he wishes they could do it again some day, also Rena finishes with a melee-style water slash that the narration compares to a blade of water. In Onikakushi-hen when Keiichi was going insane with Satoshi's baseball bat, Rena *did* confront him with her Japanese machete and he nearly dropped the bat in terror. Tsumihoroboshi-hen looked like a Rena focused chapter from the start so basically my theory was that if the roles are reversed, Keiichi would fight her with Satoshi's bat and that would probably be the climax of the chapter cuz how do you go from trying to kill someone with a machete to normal club activities? You don't.

Lambdadelta is actually an old reference to the King James Bible, so she's also a physical object. In the story she's the personification of Maria's and Eva's diaries(and also literally the bible in the case of Maria)

Every metacharacter is actually a part of the writing/reading process. Bern is messageboard rumors and speculation(what COULD have happened), Lambdadelta is the hard facts and evidence, Beatrice is the message bottles, Dlanor and Williard are the rules of the story, Featherine is the writer, and Battler is the reader.

They have some other roles occasionally or originally too. Bern was Ikuko's original reader(the forgery messageboards), Lambda was Bern's reader when she wrote a forgery herself(the evidence examining the speculation and ensuring it was plausible), Battler swapped roles and became a writer when he turned into a Sorceror and his reader was Ange, who was also Maria's reader.

From this point of view all the witch/magic/meta scenes are actually key parts of the story, they're not literal but they're also not arbitrary or made up. Bern killing Lambda is a speculation being accepted as fact and destroying the evidence's credibility, Batter punching Bern is him denying the speculation and refusing to put it into his story, Bern creating Erika is the forgers trying to assemble the truth out of fragments, and even Bern reconstructing Lambda is the evidence being pieced back together over time by investigators, etc...
