The SteamDeck looks for a PNG file in the EFI partition during the early part of boot - Before the Screen is Initialized Even. If it's found, it uses that as the Bootlogo of the device. You can change your bootlogo without even flashing the firmware. And it's fault tolerant!

great new spotify feature: when someone sends you a link to a song, it includes a tracking parameter that associates the two of you. when you open the link, instead of going to the song, it goes to your "spotify messages inbox" where you can see your past "conversation" with the person (i.e. every time they've sent you a link with that tracking ID), but does not actually play the song. to play the song, you need to open it from the messaging inbox. when you try to do that, you are invited to join spotify messages. you can dismiss the dialogue, but then the song won't play. you have to join spotify messages to open the song.

Specifically, it requires up to 256 messages to be opened and the attachments viewed - and you're likely to just block the attacker after one or two. But with google messages, the app will quietly open the messages for you in the background - making it way easier to pull off.

I just read the Wikipedia article on "Empathy in autistic people", and discovered that there's at least one prominent autism researcher who had already reached the same conclusion I recently did, about the "theory of mind deficit" theory of autism: namely, that it is almost the opposite of the truth. Incoming SMS and RCS audio attachments received by Google Messages are now automatically decoded with no user interaction. As a result, audio decoders are now in the 0-click attack surface of most Android phones.

I only noticed quite recently that there's a magic word that you can put at the beginning of Fedi comments that will significantly reduce the number of silly disagreements you have here. Noticing this, and using the word intentionally, has made my experiences so much calmer.
