MIKOTO: “If you’re seeing this, congratulations! You’ve found the one screen in the entire city that actually works!”
HIME: “For those just tuning in—and that’s probably everyone, since there’s nothing else TO tune into—here’s what we know: The power grid is down. The internet is mostly dead. Emergency services are handling it, but there’s no estimated time for restoration.”
MIKOTO: “And somehow, SOMEHOW, our little broadcasting studio still has power! Backup generators for the win!”
HIME: “Which means we’re now the only entertainment available to… potentially millions of people who have nothing else to do.”
MIKOTO: “No pressure or anything!”
HIME: “So. Since most of you probably have no idea who we are since this is our first time appearing on camera… perhaps we should introduce ourselves properly.”
MIKOTO: “Ooh, ooh! Can I go first?”
HIME: “You’re already talking, so I suppose that decision has been made.”
MIKOTO: “Hi everyone~! I’m Mikoto Futaba! I’m one half of the twin duo that usually hosts the rerun broadcast here at Iwara Corp. I love shopping, cosplay, and going to the beach! My hobbies include tripping over things that don’t exist and having my clothes betray me at the worst possible moments!”
HIME: “That last part wasn’t supposed to be a selling point.”
MIKOTO: “I’m owning my brand, Hime! The potential fans will love it!”
HIME: “The fans will love watching you fall.”
MIKOTO: “Same thing!”
HIME: “And I’m Hime Futaba. The other half. Younger twin by approximately four minutes, which Mikoto has never once let me forget.”
MIKOTO: “Four minutes of extra life experience! It counts!”
HIME: “I handle the behind-the-scenes work for our broadcast—editing, documentation, social media. I also run a blog that chronicles various… events.”
MIKOTO: “She means she takes pictures of me when my clothes malfunction and posts them online.”
HIME: “I prefer ‘preserving memorable moments for our dedicated audience.'”
MIKOTO: “She has a folder on her phone called ‘Mikoto Incidents’ with over three hundred photos.”
HIME: “Three hundred and forty-seven. I’m thorough.”
MIKOTO: “See what I have to live with?!”
HIME: “Now, normally when you would see us if we had a proper debut stream, we’ll be commentating over old Iwara Corp content. Classic videos, vintage productions, that sort of thing. We’ll provide color commentary, react to the classics, keep things lively between clips.”
MIKOTO: “But here’s the problem!”
HIME: “The servers that store all of our prepared content are currently offline. Along with everything else in the city.”
MIKOTO: “Which means we have NOTHING! No reruns! No clips! No pre-written scripts! Just… us!”
HIME: “Two girls. One working camera. Zero preparation. Potentially the entire city watching.”
MIKOTO: “It’s fine! This is fine! We’re professionals!”
HIME: “We’ve been employed here recently.”
MIKOTO: “Professional-adjacent!”
HIME: “We should also address something we’ve been seeing from those of you who still have working devices.”
MIKOTO: “Oh! The memes!”
HIME: “Someone in the community made an image that’s been circulating. Our default avatar character hooked up to what appears to be a ‘hope’ and ‘cope’ machine.”
MIKOTO: “It’s very relatable content right now.”
HIME: “We see you. We understand. We’re all hoping and coping together tonight.”
MIKOTO: “Mostly coping!”
HIME: “The hope comes when the power comes back.”
MIKOTO: “Until then… you’re stuck with us! And honestly? We’re stuck with you too! So let’s make the best of it!”
HIME: “Here’s how this is going to work. Since we have no content, no script, and no idea how long this outage will last, we’re going to improvise.”
MIKOTO: “We’re gonna talk, we’re gonna play games, we’re gonna answer questions, we’re gonna do… whatever keeps you entertained!”
HIME: “And we’re taking requests. If you can still access the comment section—and apparently some of you can—tell us what you want to see.”

HIME: “We should also mention—we’re not entirely alone in this endeavor.”
MIKOTO: “Oh right! We have backup!”
HIME: “Iwara Corp recently brought on a freelance writer to help with content creation. She’s currently at home, but she has phone service and has been… very insistent about being involved.”
MIKOTO: “She called us like six times before we even got on air.”
HIME: “She wants to ‘document this historic moment’ and ‘capture the authentic human experience of crisis entertainment.’ Her words.”
MIKOTO: “She’s a little intense but in a fun way!”
HIME: “We’ll be patching her in later. She’s offered to write short stories on the spot based on audience suggestions, among other things.”
MIKOTO: “So if you want custom content from a real writer, stick around! Nova’s gonna deliver!”
MIKOTO: “So! Let’s recap for anyone whose brain is fried from staring at a dark ceiling for the past few hours!”
She starts counting on her fingers.
MIKOTO: “One! The power is out everywhere except here! Two! We’re your only entertainment! Three! We have nothing prepared! Four! We’re taking requests! Five! We have a writer on standby who’s way too excited about this! And six…”
MIKOTO: “—WHOA!”
She stumbles, catching herself on the edge of the broadcast desk before fully falling.
MIKOTO: “…And six! The floor here is still just as dangerous as ever!”
HIME: “And there it is. Not even ten minutes in.”
MIKOTO: “You were already recording, weren’t you.”
HIME: “I started recording the moment we walked in. This is going to be historic footage.”
MIKOTO: “I hate you.”
HIME: “You love me. I’m your favorite sister.”
MIKOTO: “You’re my ONLY sister!”
HIME: “And therefore, by default, the favorite.”
HIME: “Alright, Iwara City. That’s who we are. Now we want to know who YOU are and what you want from us tonight.”
MIKOTO: “Drop those comments! Ask us questions! Give us challenges! Request topics!”
HIME: “The weirder the better. We have hours to fill and absolutely no standards at this point.”
MIKOTO: “Hey!”

HIME: “One final note before we open the floodgates. If the power comes back while we’re broadcasting…”

Why does this seem to happen every year?
Mikoto and Hime’s broadcast is something I would’ve never expected to happen after the power outage in Iwara City. Well, I’ll be waiting for more future broadcasts, and although I’m not sure how a gaming content broadcast would work here, but I recommend playing Osu!, musedash, or any rhythm game really as games like that bring back the memories of the Iwara city’s rhythmic ‘performances’ full of great music and dance. I hope that the content will not be lost, there was many artists that were exclusively using Iwara and not uploading their content anywhere else and it would be tragedy for those great animations to be lost like that :/

Every year it’s the same, but this one has been the worst of all. I just hope that nothing gets lost — or at least that everything can be recovered up to before the incident.
