As you can imagine with how they treat their "holiest river" despite their direct relation to the god Ganesh (see attached Eldritch horror) and being revered for their symbolization of wisdom, Indians treat them like shit.
Maybe not literal shit. Since apparently that's the only religious symbol they actually respect.

Elephants that are "domesticated" and treated "well" (used for religious ceremonies as opposed to strictly labor) often have a point where they snap. Fed up with being thwacked with sticks or perhaps just finally losing it from the smell of urban India this is the usual result:

But these are outliers, a vast majority of india's elephant attacks are from wild elephants. And they are usually especially brutal. Elephants, you see, are incredibly bright and emotional animals. They remember faces. Forever.

That's the neat part anon, that's because this is much darker than an animal eating to survive.
This is animalistic hatred. Pure malcontent and murder after a lifetime of anguish.

These are some of the most disturbing death videos, something about how slowly and calculated the Elephants do it makes it more terrifying than a predatory animal who kills for sustenance.

Now back to wild elephants. You see elephants have ancient "corridors" in southeast Asia that they have used for thousands of years for migration and general travel. These conflicts arise when Indians decide it's a good idea to plant a field in their way.

The issues arise when Indians seek "retribution" for crop losses/damage. In this case, a bull.elephant was killed with a poisoned jackfruit.
The elephants understood what happened.
So they all came back.
Elephant revenge campaigns on Indian villages are extremely common.

In typical izzat fashion, reading articles from India leaves out some funny little details. In this case linked below they fail to mention the villagers shot 5 elephants with bows and arrows prompting them to return fire by smushing them like ants.
