Young people who will lead the future

Sakamoto is currently working as a store staff member. In just her second year at the company, she has already recorded top sales. We asked her about the rewards of her daily work and what she values.

In daily work
A rewarding moment.

Q.Please tell us why you decided to join BEAMS.

A.I studied fashion at university, and narrowed my job search down to the apparel industry. I worked part-time at a dry cleaning store for six years, and realized I liked customer service there, so I wanted to start in sales and become someone who could do many things. I received job offers from several companies, but BEAMS was the one I thought I would enjoy working at the most. The atmosphere of the interview was friendly, and I was asked a lot of questions about myself, not about the company, so I felt like they were trying to understand me. Also, I like music, so I was attracted to the fact that they not only propose fashion, but also lifestyles.

Q.What kind of work have you been in charge of since joining the company?

A.This is my second year at the company, and I'm currently working at BEAMS Shinjuku as a salesperson for Demi-Luxe BEAMS. While serving customers, I also come up with ideas to make shopping more enjoyable for customers, train new staff, manage equipment, and post styling for BEAMS OFFICIAL WEBSITE. As Demi-Luxe BEAMS customers tend to value looking good in a single piece rather than enjoying layering, I try to create stylish yet casual styles that are easy to adopt. Outside of the store, I also model for BEAMS OFFICIAL WEBSITE.

BEAMS' corporate culture and
What I feel about the staff who work here.

Q.What do you find rewarding about your job?

A."BEAMS Shinjuku" is a store that attracts a wide range of customers. I enjoy the process of unraveling the needs of various customers, such as those who stop by after work, those who come from overseas, and regular customers who live nearby, and searching together for what they want. If a customer is looking for a bag for work, I will gradually expand the conversation to include their commute time and the nature of their work, and suggest the good points of the product. I value the time I spend with such customers more than anything. I also try to think ahead and act, such as preparing items that will go well with the customer during the fitting, and my experience working part-time at a dry cleaner's has been useful in customer service. I try to make suggestions from various angles, such as how to wash and dry materials that wrinkle easily, and how to enjoy a different look for linen materials by having them starched at the dry cleaner's.

Q.What kind of company do you think BEAMS is?

A.It's a homely company that gives you the opportunity to try all kinds of things. Right now, I want to work at Demi-Luxe BEAMS forever, but before I joined the company, I wanted to be assigned to BEAMS COUTURE. I made clothes at university, and I was sympathetic to the idea of making sustainable clothes. When the director of BEAMS COUTURE visited the store the other day, I was able to convey this to him. One of the great things about BEAMS is that you can get involved beyond the label you're in charge of. One of my classmates is in charge of BEAMS, and in his first year at the company, he held an event at BEAMS RECORDS. There is also an in-house system called "TANE.MAKI" that allows you to plan and present what you want to do.

A matching ballpoint pen (left) was given to all the staff by a colleague who is being transferred, with the message "Let's work hard together even though the store is changing!", and a precious ballpoint pen (right) was given to us by a customer.

Q.What do you value in internal communication?

A.I think it's important to maintain good relationships with the staff at the store. I always say "thank you" for things they do for me, and never forget to be grateful. And if I think something is not right, I'll tell them, regardless of who it is. I think it's because we have built a relationship of trust that it's easier to speak up. We talk about things other than work during breaks, we have barbecues on our days off, and I think that's what makes the atmosphere at the store so good.

Q.Please tell us about an experience you had that made you feel was "BEAMS like."

A.At BEAMS there are people who do a variety of things, such as catering, hosting live shows, and working as illustrators. Being able to freely take on side jobs and still be able to use that experience in your work at BEAMS is what makes it "BEAMS like." I also wanted to be involved with clothes in a way other than sales, so I worked as a model outside the company, and that led to me being called in as a model for the company's content. It's fun to be the first to see clothes that aren't on display in the store, and I can tell customers my impressions of wearing them, so I think it's also useful for customer service.

Q.What kind of person do you think is suitable to work at BEAMS?

A.BEAMS is a place where people from all walks of life coexist. Many of our employees are energetic, energetic, and fun-loving, but I'm on the less energetic side. I watch over everyone, thinking they're having fun (laughs). People who try all sorts of things tend to stand out, but there are also people who work hard at what they can do in the store, and even if you don't raise your voice, you'll have the opportunity to try. It's a company where anyone can be accepted and have fun.

Hobbies and personal
Focus on how you spend your time.

Q.Is it easy to balance your work and personal life?

A.BEAMS believes that having a fulfilling private life is the key to working hard. Since we work in stores with a large number of employees, it is easy to take time off. I like going to music festivals, and this year I am planning to go to the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL. It is a busy time because of the sales, but I was kindly allowed to take consecutive days off because "you always work hard." Some staff members have even taken 14 consecutive days off to go on overseas trips.

Q.What are your hobbies and favorite cultures?

A.Watching live shows and going for drives. I listen to a wide range of music, but recently I've been into a band called "Yakushu" and I often go to their live shows. When I go for drives, I ask the passenger in the passenger seat to look at the map and we go to places that catch my eye. I often go to places where I can feel nature, such as the sea or mountains, and I also like taking photos. I prefer film cameras to digital cameras, and I enjoy the time it takes to wind the film and capturing the moment I took a picture so that I can look at it after some time has passed.

Q.What are your goals for your future work?

A.I'm currently interacting with many different customers at the store, so I'd like to use that experience to try my hand at creating things. I love the process of making things, so whether it's clothing or events. I'd be happy to be involved not only with Demi-Luxe BEAMS, but also with other labels.
