It's smack-bang in the middle of summer, and the beloved water park not only remains closed, but is also now in the process of being repossessed by the funding investment group behind the mortgage.
The owner and mortgagor Translink Management Group, headed by Songnan "Morris" Huang, is yet to release a statement on the matter, but a notice of possession is now fixed to the fence of the shuttered park.
The lenders group includes Goodland Alpha, Foodie Family, ATF Jiang Family Trust, CA Capital Management, Nouri Superannuation and ATF Nouri Family Superannuation Fund.
The notice states that the lenders have taken possession of the land pursuant to its mortgage, and that Sydney finance law firm Kingston & Partners has taken on the matter.
The news comes just one month after Translink shared early concept plans that included 250 "commercial accommodation" units and a single indoor pool.
The plans did not include any water slides and did away with the existing four pools.
The site - one of Canberra's most popular summer venues - has been closed for more than a year.
During that time, it has been left to rack and ruin; Canberra consultants Purdon, acting for Translink, last year shared photographs of the vandalised Big Splash premises, all but saying the water park is never going to reopen under the current owner of the lease.
But it seems all plans are now at a standstill. Purdon is yet to release a statement on behalf of Translink.
Kingston & Partners has been contacted for comment and has yet to respond.
More to come.
