What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Our first game benefited greatly from player feedback. Tavern Keeper has received plenty of polish already but understanding how players engage with the game and working with the community to incorporate feedback will ultimately lead to an even better experience for everyone. Early Access also gives us the chance to bring the later-game scenarios up to the same level of polish as the early-game content before the full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to be in Early Access for roughly a year, though this could change based on player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add three more campaign (and freeplay) levels, along with new tavern features up to a 5-star tavern. See our Early Access Roadmap for more information on our intentions.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is fully playable and has all the content described on the Steam page. It features an expansive narrative campaign across three unique locations, nearly a hundred stories, tavern-progression to 2.5 stars, as well as additional Freeplay and Item Workshop game modes. There’s a lot to experience already!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't intend to increase the base price during Early Access, but it might increase at full release. As an additional thanks for the early support, the “Supporter Pack 💚” DLC is automatically included for free during Early Access. The DLC contains the high-quality original soundtrack, as well as an extra in-game “Developer Commentary” mode (which will become available during Early Access).”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We love hearing about your in-game experiences! While playing the game, please press F3 to send us a message. You can also engage with us through the Steam Forums and our Discord.”

A detailed tavern sim with actual soul.

I’ve played a lot of tycoons and management sims, but Tavern Keeper hits a sweet spot that most miss. Greenheart Games has managed to take the granular, "just one more table" addiction of the genre and wrap it in a genuinely charming, storybook package.

The Good Stuff:

Polish: This game is very well polished and thought-out even at this early access stage. The love from the devs is everywhere even down to every tiny menu detail. Seriously deep.

The "Vibe" is Immaculate: The aesthetic choices are perfect. It’s colorful and inviting, warm cozy, and equally crazy.

Narrative Integration: Usually, management games are dry. Here, the integration of the Narrator and a proper story mode is brilliant. It gives you a reason to build beyond just "number go up." Every story chapter and little handcrafted quirk or detail on a character work to show off the incredible love the developers put into it.

Decorating Actually Matters: This is my favorite part. In most games, placing a rug is just for me to enjoy. Here, the granular control you have over decoration, adding, rotating, scaling and grouping items allows for endless creativity. The fact that the "Beauty" score genuinely impacts customer behavior makes the design phase feel like legitimate gameplay, not just fluff.

My Wishlist for Early Access (Feedback for the Devs):

While the foundation is incredible, I’d love to see the management layer get even crunchier as development continues (and some of this it sounds like is already planned!):

Staff Progression: This is the big one for me, and one I see you have on the stove right now. I want to care more about my individual workers. A deeper perk system or specific training trees would be amazing. Let me develop a novice into a master chef over time rather than them just being static units.

Interactive Decor: Decor is already great for stats, but I'd love for it to affect gameplay in more direct, interactive ways. Imagine if specific items triggered patron behaviors. A bard stage actually drawing a crowd to a specific corner depending on the performer star level and decoration of the stage. Make some more furniture active rather than passive stat boosters.

Deepen the Lodging Systems: The tavern side is strong, but the Inn/Lodging side could use more love to match it. I'd love to see expanded mechanics here. It looks like laundry will be coming soon, perhaps room service, I'd love for the the inn side be as complex as the bar side. But in the end it is TAVERN keeper.

Add a Mixology System: Please let us design our own drinks! A system to research or mix ingredients to create custom brews with specific traits (e.g., "High Alcohol, Low Flavor" or "Spicy Ale") would add a massive layer of strategy and fun.

Verdict: If you like cozy management games but crave a bit more personality and story than the usual fare, buy this. It’s INCREDIBLY polished, amazingly charming, and hard to put down. Can’t wait to see where it goes from here. I check every hotfix!

Its fun for a little while. it feels like when you complete the 3 mission campaign its over. Free playing to half stars and the exact same layout with the same old permanent walls so you can go ahead and build the same bar that can be made in story but with no objectives feels empty. It Seems like theres alot of novelty fluff that looks cool but serves no purpose. my opinion is this is a demo, and not even early access yet, the pricetag only reflects the polish on the small amount of content available, because it is well polished, i just cant bring myself to play it anymore.

I’ve played through all three currently available maps, and time just flew by. It’s an incredibly cozy game, filled with small details that truly bring the tavern to life. The narrator’s voice guides you naturally, making the experience feel like a story without ever feeling forced. It’s clear that everyone working on this game genuinely loves what they do. I'm eagerly awaiting the next part, in the meantime I'll continue to run my tavern.

It's an excellent early access game with a lot of heart put into it. Pitch-perfect send up of Discworld style fantasy gaming parody humor combined with gameplay that shows care and craft to it.

My three biggest gripes right now are:

-the interface needs some work as misclicking on things is annoying, and there needs to be commands for mass assigning cleanup or repair to objects in and area instead of manually clicking and clicking priority.

-the lack of ability to change the overall layout of your tavern building; you can modify the interior, but you can't claim additional land or remove annoying wall dividers that mess up the space you have. I wind up having to squeaze everything in when the game gets bigger.

-the game chugging and bottlenecking when you get lots of patrons - granted this happens in pretty much any sim game like this (the Two Point games are notorious for this) but I hope that we see more optimization for large numbers of guests that resolve this issue

Also I have a suggestion:

-Add a replayable 'roguelite'-ish procerdural mode outside the main campaign where you just run a series of randomized stories and scenarios. Sort of like how freeplay is supposed to be but with an actual arc and goals to accomplish potentially. I just would like more reasons to keep playing and discovering and trying new stuff after I complete all the main quests.

Management aspects show lots of promise if they are continuously deepened until the full release. The story, writing, and narration is extremely charming and fleshes out the fantasy of being a tavern keeper. The design mode is revolutionary when it comes to customization and setting a scene/atmosphere. All around, the early access shows potential for this game to be right up there with some of the greats, as long as the story is fleshed out to a satisfying length and the core systems are allowed to be engaged with even more deeply in ways that truly feel rewarding.

Like many of the other reviews recently, I want to applaud the clear heart and soul that went into this game. It's not only an exceptional early access release, but it's already a must-play entry in the bar/diner sim genre. I can't wait to see what version 1.0 truly brings!

Easy to understand, but it gets progressively more complex.
Fun and very entertaining; hours fly by while you're playing.

On the downside, I think money sometimes accumulates very slowly, making it difficult to progress with construction, and there's limited space for decorating if you want to use all the amenities.
I'd like to be able to automate the purchase of drinks and ingredients somehow.

There's still more content to be added, but it has a lot of potential.

This game is somehow one of the greatest games I’ve ever played.

These type of games are usually plagued by some major issue with either the UI, management, resources, mechanics, gameplay or just being unfun.

This game has all those aspects perfect and it has a ton of content coming.

Plus I’m only on the first star and there is so much more to discover, let alone design mode where I can make my tavern into literally anything.

A really good tavern game, detailed in atmosphere and life, finished all 3 story, and I'm still enjoying the game.
Although, would be nice if you could hire a "manager" that helps with the food supplies, the player set the general menu, and let the manager handle the supplies. (And just give the player some notice if there's something wrong and reports)
