Victim of horrific attack fears his foreign attacker could walk free if deported
The victim of an horrific unprovoked attack fears he could be denied justice over plans to deport the foreign national who left him fighting for his life.
Robert Tuck's life was changed forever after he was left with profound disabilities and brain damage following the attack.
But now Robert, who is from Garforth near Leeds, has learnt that his Lativan attacker - who was jailed for 15 years - could be deported to his homeland and then walk free within months.
Latvian-born Alfz Baronins was found guilty of the attack, which took place in April 2013. But now just 14 months into his sentence, he is being considered for transfer to his home country.
The Ministry of Justice says that wherever possible, foreign criminals should serve their sentences in a prison in their own country and not at the expense of the British taxpayer.
But that still doesn't answer Robert's concerns that his attacker could be released early in his homeland long before the 10-year tariff he is serving here.
