The season typically runs from August to May, consisting of each team playing 38 matches against all others, both at home and away. Matches are mainly held on the weekends, with occasional midweek fixtures. Established as the FA Premier League on February 20, 1992, the league was created by First Division clubs breaking away from the English Football League. Despite this, teams can still move between the Premier League and the EFL Championship. The league benefits from a lucrative £5 billion TV rights agreement, with Sky and BT Group securing broadcasting rights for domestic games. This deal is set to increase to £6.7 billion for the seasons spanning from 2025 to 2029. Furthermore, the league is estimated to earn $7.2 billion from overseas TV rights between 2022 and 2025. Managed as a corporation with a chief executive, the Premier League distributes central payment revenues to member clubs, amounting to £2.4 billion in 2016–17, alongside £343 million in solidarity payments to EFL clubs. With a massive global audience, the Premier League is the most-watched sports league globally, broadcast in 212 territories and reaching 643 million homes, potentially engaging an audience of 4.7 billion people. For the 2018–19 season, the average attendance per match stood at 38,181, ranking second after the German Bundesliga's 43,500. However, the Premier League recorded the highest aggregate attendance across all matches compared to any other football league, totaling 14,508,981 spectators. Currently, the Premier League leads the UEFA coefficient rankings, reflecting strong performances in European competitions over the past five seasons, surpassing Spain's La Liga. Notably, English clubs have achieved the second-highest number of European Cup / UEFA Champions League titles, with six clubs securing a total of fifteen championships. Since its inception in 1992, 51 clubs have participated in the Premier League, with seven capturing the title: Manchester United (13), Manchester City (7), Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3), Blackburn Rovers (1), Leicester City (1), and Liverpool (1). Notable achievements include both Manchester clubs winning three consecutive titles, while six clubs have successfully avoided relegation: Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
