About
Amelia is a supporting character in the U.K. government-funded educational visual novel Pathways, a game developed by Shout Out UK to teach the youth about extremism and radicalization. In the game, Amelia is depicted as a far-right anti-immigration activist with purple hair, a pink dress, a purple sweater and a goth or e-girl appearance, who tries persuading the protagonist to join her cause. The video game was purportedly released in 2023 and generated online discourse in January 2026 as far-right social media users reclaimed the character as their own, inspiring positive fan art and memes based around Amelia.
Origin
In 2023, Shout Out UK, a company focused on spreading media literacy, political literacy and more via their training programs, released the visual novel "interactive learning package," Pathways.[1][2] The game was funded by Prevent, a program of the British government's Home Office.
In the game, players take on the role of a character named Charlie in six different scenarios dealing with online or in-person radicalization.
Scenario two features the character Amelia, a far-right, purple-haired goth girl with anti-immigration views who tries to recruit Charlie into joining anti-immigration groups and protesting against immigration.
Spread
In early January 2026, Amelia gained attention on X / Twitter surrounding discussions about the game's portrayal of teenagers as potential far-right extremists. Some people began to celebrate Amelia for her viewpoints.
For example, on January 9th, 2026, X[3] user @BovrilG posted a screenshot of Amelia trying to convince Charlie that immigrants are stealing jobs in the U.K., writing, "Looks like The Stable has its first 2D member. I have no idea how its existing 3D Pig Disgusting membership will compete," garnering over 5,700 likes in four days.
Later that day, the same X[4] user quoted their own post with another screenshot from the game, writing, "I think I’m in love with Amelia," garnering over 18,000 likes in the same span of time.
On January 10th, 2026, Redditor rustybeard made a post to the /r/KotakuInAction[5] subreddit titled, "Pathways, the UK government game about extremism and media literacy," describing and criticizing the game, garnering over 290 upvotes and 150 comments in three days. One of the top-voted comments reads, "Wait, are you telling me they made the cute goth e-girl the 'racist'? Do they understand how the internet works?"
That day, two X communities named after Amelia emerged, amassing hundreds of members.[6][7] Around the same time, a Janitor AI character bot based on Amelia was created.[8]
On January 12th, 2026, X[9] user @Bee_CrayZee posted a piece of fan art showing Amelia asking Charlie if they'll help her secure a future for the white race, garnering over 19,000 likes in a day.
On January 14th, X[10] user @martianwyrdlord posted a screenshot of the Pathways game stuck on an infinite load screen, writing, "LMAO they disabled the Amelia game," garnering over 3,300 likes in under a day.

Common sense would have been not to make the racist xenophobe a cute and sympathetic goth woman with relatable problems, both because it's propaganda 101 but also because it's an unrealistic depiction.
All they had to do was show a realistic example of the people campaigning for this kind of stuff and they'd have been golden- they always make fools of themselves and look about as terrible as they act.

If I had a penny for every time the governments efforts at de-radicalization ended up further radicalizing people I´d be a very rich man. Rule thumb tho: whatever side tells you TO NOT fact check things from all sides are the bad guys, they want you to stay uninformed so that the changes they want can be made without you noticing, so It´s too late for you to stop them, so clearly these guys cannot be trusted and If the world ever gets better this "game" will be used as an historical example of propaganda.

To be fair, immigration is actually down in the UK as it is here in Canada. The problem is, like inflation, the effects are cumulative. It's far easier to just not fuck things up in the first place.
The COVID era was just one giant policy disaster for Western governments, with a net result being a massive loss of trust from the populace. Some of it was unavoidable, but a lot of it was. Bringing out the money printer to keep the economy on life support during shutdowns, kind of understandable, but that created a massive short term demand for labour especially in shitty minimum wage restaurant and retail jobs that people could suddenly afford to leave. You know, all the "nobody wants to work anymore" bitching and moaning. The correct response from government would be to ignore it and let the market correct itself, but instead we got, as it is known here in Canada, "Timmigration" (from Tim Hortons + Immigration) as all the minimum wage retail and restaurant jobs people left because pandemic were basically taken over by new immigrants, and now that the money printer is gone and companies have the excuse of AI to downsize from the pandemic level overhiring, these entry level jobs no longer exist for people to fall back to or for students to start their careers.
