I know you have said you don’t particularly have the money for another Solicitor, but I work in this field and the only real option IMO going off what you have said is to explore bankruptcy proceedings and for that you are going to need to instruct a Solicitors firm, all in it would probably cost you £3500-4000 to bankrupt him. If you bankrupt him then his affairs will be investigated properly by an insolvency practitioner, he will not be able to stand as Director of a Company and if they find inconsistencies or deliberate attempts to put “assets” out of reach of creditors those traisoactions can be recalled where applicable. Recovery will not be instant if he is declared bankrupt, but sometimes the threat alone could well be enough to force him into full payment to avoid it.
