Community Update
Thank you for your patience so far. This community has been through a lot together over these many years, and we’re truly grateful you’re still here.
We finally got a reply from our hosting services regarding our current situation, but it was nothing more than a confirmation of services termination. This decision being reversed is highly unlikely. They did not answer any questions about data recovery and then left for the weekend. Best case scenario is we hear from them again next week about our options to be able to complete a full restoration of iwara.tv on a new hosting service.
At the same time, we’re not sitting idle. We’re actively exploring contingency ideas to bring Iwara back in whatever form possible, should the current situation not improve. We have already started communications with potential new hosting services, but nothing has been agreed on yet. I sincerely apologize but this is not an overnight process and will take some time due to the size of our website and the specific needs that must be met. If not done properly, then Iwara will struggle to be usable once it does return.
Recovery path
The only correct option is to recover as much data as possible.
Ideally, we’ll be granted access to our backups. In case this does not happen, we’re thinking about approaches that could find ways to incorporate older data back into the website. The goal is to save as much of our legacy as we can.
These are still concepts we’re reviewing, and none of them are confirmed viable yet. There are challenges to work through that must be considered before any decisions can be made.
I’ll share more concrete details as soon as we have clarity on what’s actually possible with our older data backups. Starting fresh again is the last thing we want to do.
Current Goals
All hands are on deck, and our team is each working on different tasks:
Data recovery. This is the most important task we are doing. Without essential data, a great deal is lost, and nobody wants to lose out here. We are currently using unconventional methods in case our current hosting is unwilling to provide our data in full. Using these methods, we won’t be able to recover everything but instead will focus on the most critical data: user accounts and video information. While we can’t guarantee anything here, we are doing our best to make sure we can get as much as possible.
Development. Second most important task. If we were to re-launch the website without being prepared, this is only going to happen again. We’ll announce the changes later in a separate community update.
Hosting solutions. We are not only reaching out to potential services but are also listening to offers coming in from other providers. This is a tricky situation due to our circumstances, so we need a service that will listen to what our requirements are, and respect that we will have complaints coming in. We must find out how they handle these kinds of reports and what chances, if any, we are given to make corrects before they turn off access to our website. Every provider is different, and some will tolerate more than others. This process cannot be rushed.
Agreements must be made on both content moderation as well as requirements and pricing for our infrastructure servers. Only then can new web servers be deployed.
Rules and Content updates. Some of this depends on what our final hosting provider tolerates, but we have already drafted up a list of changes that will come starting with the relaunching of the website. These changes will not be announced until they are finalized.
This is a tough moment, but we’ve overcome many challenges before, and we’re not going to give up easily. More updates will come as soon as there is progress. We don’t expect to be able to bring the website back within the next few weeks, but it isn’t impossible.
In the meantime, feel free to check out our ongoing broadcast posts as a bit of entertainment while we continue doing things in the background. Thankfully we just recently had a writer join our team as a volunteer which is why this is possible now. We wanted to wait another few months before introducing the twins, but here we are.
Thank you for being part of this community. We’ll find a way forward.

Take as much time as you need to figure things out. I’m sure that no matter the state of data recovery people will return once Iwara goes back online, regardless of how much of a tragedy it may be.

You might try to contact the Gelbooru admin and use the same hosting as they do. Gelbooru had a similar situation a few years ago, with one hosting company holding their data hostage, but they resolved it, and things have been fine ever since.
Also, if you have any personal backup of the site stored somewhere, it might be a good idea to share it via torrent. There are plenty of data hoarders out there, which could archive the legacy in case a situation like that happens again.
if you can afford to build and host your own server with the current technology stack you have without having to worry about legal situations with the content here, it is better to build one and never use third-party hosting as a primary one again, as we can no longer afford to trust them: we have seen a lot of incidents involving big-tech corporations, including Cloudflare going down twice in 2025-12, mass data breaches, and even demanding logins just to visit the homepage at all (looking at you, X).

You seriously need to threaten to sue if they don’t want to give access to backups, even if you don’t think you have a case. Also rip into their official terms of service and whatever contract you signed, say xyz you did didn’t actually break ToS and they’re obligated to do abc or pay you whatever, this has worked for me in the past. Seriously dude, if something like this happened to a site I ran I’d be screaming into the phone all fuckin day.
And i’m sure you don’t need to hear this, but let this be a lesson to everybody: always have two backups: a local one and a remote one. In the case of a website a local backup would be whatever backup service the vps host provides, and a remote backup would be a totally different company’s storage solution, probably cheap archive object storage.
If worst comes to worst, I have about 15 terabytes of iwara videos downloaded (I figured something like this would happen at some point), most popular channels are fully archived with some associated metadata, so reach out to me if you’re interested admin.

I’ve lost hope. It was good while it lasted. At least I was able to download a large number of videos over the years. I missed out on many more, but that’s just the way it is. In any case, I know that many content creators won’t be coming back. If many left when the site was slow, now with this, I have no doubt that they will all leave. It’s not pessimism, it’s something that has already been seen, and if we start from scratch, it will take several years to structure and organise…

I knew I shouldve kept downloading my favorite videos. I just bookmarked them thinking everything would be alright. Guess I got too comfortable. With videos being deleted from different porn sites and even my Liked YouTube videos, I got to download everything. Nothing is safe anymore.

So sorry you had to go through this, any idea why they decided to terminate your hosting privileges? I hope that you do at least get access to all your data back and they let you migrate all of what they have to another service but if that doesn’t happen that you at least don’t loose to much.
I’m sorry to see the site down for so long especially with the potential to loose a lot of the content that is on here. It has been and hopefully always will be my fave adult site to visit.
Unfortunate but maybe it’s for the best…. the old hosts had gotten very unstable & unreliable. It’s possible the new ones will be better & perhaps cheaper than the last.

I had way too many videos not in “safety” of my HHDs etc. Many not active anymore either so I just expect it will all be gone then and since the creators are not active it’s gone forever. Dunno why everything seems to be removed these days from dlsite to fantia to everything. Guess there is soon not a single nsfw platform left.

Thank you for the update. Hope that everything is returned to you and the new host/ hosts would be more secure for this type of cultured content. The best I can do is mention that Gelbooru’s image host is rumored to be VINAX, but I’m not sure how accurate that data is. I got 175GB of content I could upload if the restore has some gaps. Regardless of what happens I’ll check up once in a while.Also you are all doing a great job and have been for years. Good luck!!! <3

On November last year, chrome randomly decided to wipe out all my browsing pages. 3 windows, 69 taps, all gone. I spent half a month tinkering with SQL to try to restore what could be restored, and in the end I got 9 tabs back, that’s 9 tabs back 60 tabs gone. Now a month later I come to the news that iwara might not be able to recover site data or user info. Man, this really isn’t the way to start a new year.

What really sucks about this for me is that all the people I follow don’t even have a website or anything to go to in the meantime. Not a single one of them. No twitter, no blusky, no pixiv, no anything; they EXCLUSIVELY posted their content here. That, or they just never left any links anywhere. It’s a good thing I always download the videos I like, even if the download quality is bad. I’ll gladly take grainy 540p garbage downloads if it means preserving things I like.
There being no up to date alternative or mirror in case of downtime was definitely something that should’ve been considered as an early preventative measure back when the site could barely load videos, but here’s hoping the site comes back in a satisfactory manner. Whatever brainless oaf brushed you guys off for the weekend needs to get fired. You do NOT do that to customers, ever. The customer always has the right to know EVERY detail, especially when there’s unjustified termination.

In some countries you must be allowed to recover your data. Atleast where I work we are legally obligated to hand over the database when a client leaves and asks for the database.
I’ll continue to await Iwara’s return. But yeah, this is the rarest thing. If it had been sensitivity to the content there would’ve been some sort of warning like “hey we terminated you because you porn is weird” This sounds more like these hosts just decided to up and end things just to scam for no reason.
At the moment does anyone know of a forum or place where people talk about this or a site where people are reposting?

Did you not have offsite backups? Seriously this is data integrity 101… learn from this. Make offsite backup systems. If you want to use a cloud provider, encrypt the backups so that they dont snoop.
I pray for the day Iwara will be able to afford having its own servers and data centers, so we wouldn’t have to deal with this third party bullshit every year or so.

would highly recommend looking at incorporating a onion server in future, possibly running a personal server as backup… you can find cheap secondhand enterprise hdd on alibaba (useful for archiving//cold storage at minimum(secondhand drives mitigate the risk of scam drives))
it seems a number of companies are taking advantage of the system and enforcing the “we reserve the right to refuse service” clause in T&A due to political pressures or idealism respectively, knowing that fighting them isn’t worth the effort//expense…

I know business takes a long time, especially when it comes to correspondence and liability. It once took me 10 days of e-mails to get a company to acknowledge a light was the wrong color, and I had pictures. I don’t believe it’s your fault things are taking a while, and I can be patient here.

I really wish for the best, so that Iwara will come back along with as many of the older videos as possible, and especially with as many creators that uploaded on this website until now. Iwara was and still is hands down the best porn website I’ve used ever, because of all the wonderful creators that have been uploading their top-quality videos here, even though the website had its setbacks (not really big ones IMO). Hopefully Iwara team finds a good reliable hosting provider (which has been a problem for quite a while now). GANBARE IWARA STAFF!

Damn those small server providers! I got hit with this exact thing before—they took down my personal website without any prior notice. Since it was just a personal site, I never even thought about backing up the content. My last backup was three months ago, so I lost tons of data. These small providers have absolutely no sense of service whatsoever! To all the website owners who got screwed over, hope you can get through this difficult time—everyone will be waiting for you!

So, here’s a proposal:
Why not stablish a temporal site with other host provider or better yet a private server of your own ownership? You could limit uploads to those with premium meberships, maybe keep metrics like views and likes disabled if by doing so considerably reduces bandwidth cost, but let us all be able to watch these new uploads.
You still have your add revenue right, I think I saw some adds on the broadcast page, and with the paid memberships you could quickly finance a temporal site right? Maybe? Hopefuly?
Also, if you have a backup of the videos, have you consider re-uploading some of the most watched/liked ones to other sites like rule34video or sankakucomplex for the meantime?
If they just stated they’re dropping you as a customer, and then ran off for the weekend, it sounds to me like they did something akin to a rug pull. I don’t know anything about the financial agreement made with this hosting company, but I find it doubtful they’d be willing to offer any refunds on your payments. Willing to bet you weren’t the only customer they’ve abandoned over the holidays, just one of the biggest. I sincerely hope you can recover the data, I’d hate to see years of media lost due to the actions of a single hosting company’s bad management. Even if the community were to collectively work to rebuild from scratch, using people’s personal databases, there will almost always be lost media. There were so many videos on this platform, I’m sure countless would fall through the cracks, and be lost potentially forever.
The one positive though, is the community remains, and is willing to rebuild. Though this should definitely act as a learning opportunity to store backups of content, preferably with independent hosting services, or hopefully Iwara owned servers.

I can’t believe this happened by chance, there must be someone or some group behind these actions. There should be some stricter kind of requirement to access Iwara, because if this continues, anything even vanilla content could be reported, and the site could go down again.
Things are truly weird online for sure. Took me ages to get a “normal” host. I did find the biggest warning signs, though. Largely just street sense really.
I live in Thailand and have Barkester.net on a server here. Banks are the big one. If they demand you pay via online, fuck them. Get a server Who’s neck you can fit your hands around.
My server is at a townhouse near the old airport. Should anything happen. My happy ass can be there in person. Not that violence has ever been necessary, but it keeps things “polite” when people know you can visit their family at holiday. Things like this certainly don’t happen. What ever the case, a polite arrangement must be made.

As for security, I would try to find a second server in a second country and keeping a home backup is a no-brainer.
Avoid the internet hosts without locations. They are all part of an Amerikan operation, basically, to get everybody’s money online before it goes to shit. All are designed to force online Western banking, so that you may be easily cancelled by them, should they like. Kinda like what they just did.
The servers online are all selling banking and insuring that all damains are attached to western payment methods. this keeps the 7 billion not part of the west out of the competition. I myself cannot possibly hire any online server as i have no online payment ability which forced it into my attention.
I shopped it and discovered that they didn’t really care if they lost cash sales, even within the country. Thai companies were demanding dollars! WTF!!? I looked closer and it does appear their models are based on banking fees and forgotten auto-payments more than renting servers.
Now think about this. Thats now a nice business model and a red flag bigtime. Whoever you go with, my advice from personal study is: Pay cash and if they don’t like cash, their business is not servers and you should go find a company selling servers, not bankers… and real servers doing real business for real money teka cash and are happy to have you visit.

I personally was already prepared that something like this could happen, ever since a few creators I liked here on Iwara purged their account and all their content for various undisclosed reasons.
Some creators I found later again had moved to a paid service where all their content was now behind a paywall instead, other creators I managed to find information that they had been copyright striked, and had 2 choices remove all their content or face consequences with the legal system.
Since then I’ve downloaded almost everything I liked if I thought it was worth more than a “one time session”, and even if it’s nothing compared to Iwara as a whole I’ve collected roughly 3K videos, which would take a bit more than 1 entire week of watching 24/7 to bench.
Also luckily for me Iwara hasn’t really been the main place I gather videos from as of recently, I mean in the past for sure, but the past year or so I’ve barely even used it since I found other site alternatives that better suited me. But even so I’ve been here on Iwara ever since I started watching MMD’s which was towards the end of 2019, so I’ve been here for a total of 6 years, which I’ve even found videos here on Iwara going as far back as being posted in 2014.
So I know I’m not alone when saying “I’d be sad to see the site go” even if it’s just temporary, I’m however happy that the team behind Iwara is looking to fix it as best as they can, and that they refuse to give up even if it comes to worst and being forced to start from scratch.

just find that huggingface.co have a dataset that includes most of iwara videos up to the middle of 2025. Maybe you can try recover from it.
