i dont think they are gonna ban general purpose computers.
i think what they are gonna do, is they are gonna say
"we want more spyware in computers, we want more UEFI..."
and not just UEFI that helps you you detect spyware,
but UEFI where the signing is controlled by third parties,
and you dont have an easy owner override, and all the rest of it...
i think that that is gonna be the trajectory of this stuff,
not "gosh that stupid policy that we pursued at great expense for ten years
was a complete failure, we should admit it and move on"
i think the answer is gonna be
"oh my god, look at what idiots we look like, we cannot possibly admit defeat",
you know, see the "war on drugs"...
