順天堂大学大学院 医学研究科 精神・行動科学 主任教授
1988年、東京大学医学部卒業後、同附属病院にて臨床研修。滋賀医科大学附属病院精神科助手を経て、同大学にて博士(医学)取得。文部省在外研究員として米国アイオワ大学精神科にて研究に従事、東京大学医学部精神神経科 講師、理化学研究所脳科学総合研究センター(現・脳神経科学研究センター)精神疾患動態研究チーム チームリーダーなどを経て、2020年より現職。日本医師会医学賞、Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Colvin Prize、塚原仲晃記念賞など受賞多数。双極性障害の原因解明をライフワークとして研究している。

1988年東京大学医学部卒業。同附属病院にて臨床研修。

1989年滋賀医科大学附属病院精神科助手。

1994年同大学にて博士（医学）取得。

1995～1996年文部省在外研究員としてアイオワ大学精神科にて研究に従事。

1997年東京大学医学部精神神経科助手、1999年同講師。

2001年理化学研究所脳科学総合研究センター（2018年より脳神経科学研究センター）精神疾患動態研究チーム チームリーダー

2020年4月より現職

    統合失調症に関して最新の情報を知りたくて購入しましたが、取り上げている量が気持ち少ない気がしました。
    うつ病などはどの章でも取り上げられている印象でしたが、統合失調症は専門の章で取り上げられているだけで、気持ち少ない印象でした。

    前作、『「心の病」の脳科学 なぜ生じるのか、どうすれば治るのか (ブルーバックス)』の続編です。
    ストレスへの対処法やメンタルの守り方が書いてある本ではなく、精神疾患の生物学的基盤の研究成果を紹介している本です。私の印象では前作より難易度やや高め。
    これを読むと、他の医学分野に比べて遅れている印象のある精神医学も進んでいることがわかります。
    fMRIやPETを使った画像研究やSNPを調べるゲノム研究など、従来精神科のイメージとして根深い患者さんの深層心理を探求したり催眠状態にして幼少時の体験を思い出したりといった面とはずいぶん違ってきている印象です。
    もちろん、そういった精神分析みたいなことをしているところもあるのでしょうが、本書で紹介されているような研究が進み、きちんとした科学的な裏付けがあったうえで治療してもらえる方が患者としては安心でしょう。
    こうした素晴らしい研究が進んでいるのは喜ばしいことですが、これが一般の病院、クリニックで応用できるようになるにはまだまだ時間がかかりそうです。
