A blaze has broken out at a recycling site in Tsing Yi after some metal and electronic waste caught fire in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Fire Services Department (FSD) said no one was injured and no evacuation was needed.
As of 11am, the fire had not been extinguished.
FSD photos showed firefighters hosing down the fire next to cargo containers. The department also deployed a fireboat to contain the blaze.
Videos shared on Threads on Tuesday morning showed thick smoke billowing from the recycling site.
The FSD told HKFP that the fire covered an area of 50 by 50 metres and was categorised as a Level 1 fire, meaning it is easy to extinguish and does not pose a significant threat to life or property.
A preliminary investigation found that the fire started after some metal and electronic waste caught fire, the FSD said.
Local media reported that a fire took place at the same site on Sunday night. Flames erupted again less than 48 hours after the initial blaze was put out.
The FSD urged residents affected by smoke and a pungent smell to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and remain calm.
