Passengers may now take pets on board any Sun Ferry passenger vessel, including those running between Central and the outlying island of Cheung Chau and Mui Wo, on Lantau Island.
Previously, those with pets could only board ordinary – or “slow” – ferries noted on Sun Ferry’s timetables.
Starting September 3, dogs, birds and other pets may officially board with their owners if suitably restrained or caged. However, they must remain in a designated area, and are not allowed in the deluxe class section of ordinary ferries.

Dogs must be leashed and muzzled, and passengers will need to pay an additional fare for their pet.
| Ferry Route | Standard Charge (per pet) |
|---|---|
| Central – Cheung Chau | HK$23.40 |
| Central – Mui Wo | HK$22.30 |
| Inter-islands | HK$17.20 |
| North Point – Hung Hom | HK$11.00 |
| North Point – Kowloon City | HK$11.00 |
The relaxation of rules applies to all Sun Ferry routes, including between North Point and Hung Hom or Kowloon City, as well as the inter-island ferry services.
Passengers are now allowed to take cats and dogs on light rail MTR trains following a trial. However, a long list of rules is in place.
