Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee hosted comedian Jimmy O. Yang during his recent visit to the city, with the pair bonding over their Wah Yan College days, according to O. Yang’s management company.

The alumni were also joined by Hong Kong’s Commissioner for Belt and Road Nicholas Ho, the US comedian’s classmate, as they went through vintage school yearbooks and toasted the college with commemorative cups.

Tourism Board link-up

38-year-old O. Yang – who was born in Hong Kong before moving to the US during secondary school – performed for five sold-out shows last month at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

He was the latest “marquee” celebrity to partner with the city’s tourism body to “tell good stories of Hong Kong.”

Among social media clips he posted was one featuring a trip to Lantau’s Big Buddha. It was produced in collaboration with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, a government-funded statutory body tasked with promoting inbound tourism.
