A post on the Facebook page for Fu Music on Saturday said that he had faced a “relentless illness for five years” and passed away on February 21. “The music and graphic novels he gifted to the world remain an eternal testament to his luminous spirit, a timeless treasure for generations to come,” the music label added.

The Mandopop artist grew up in Hawaii, Shanghai, and Guangzhou before launching his debut album, Soulboy, in 2005 with Warner Music Hong Kong.

Following the 2016 release of his album Journey to the West, he stepped back from his music career over health concerns. He made a comeback with last October’s release of The Dreamer.
