paint.net is better. it has better filters. paint.net filters can be used in combination to achieve almost any effect imaginable. krita and other image editors have weird ass niche filters that nobody gives a fuck about, like "rain drops", or "fire".

remarkable that you can develop a piece of software for 30 years and still have it be a piece of shit. i mean, i still install it on every machine because it does have some features and workflows that are very good - but it's better viewed as a utility than a complete, usable piece of software. you should look at gimp as like, the same way you look at ffmpeg or something.

i get why it sounds dont make sense first but before dismissing it entirely just look at some anomalies in physics that look suspiciously like computer.. first consider the observer effect specifically the double slit experiment.. when we dont observe particles they exist as waves but the moment we measure them they collapse into a position.. this is eerily similar to frustum culling in video games where the engine only renders what the player is looking at to save system performance.. why would the universe need to optimize itself based on observation if it was organic.. second reality isnt infinitely smooth there is a hard math limit called planck length.. u cant have a distance smaller than this it acts exactly like a grid or pixels on a screen.. finally the whole universe operates on strict math laws.. everything follows a structure almost as if it was written in code.. if the universe has a resolution limit and optimizes performance when observed is the theory really that ridiculous

 24376

simulation theory doesn't make sense from economics standpoint, because if this simulation is so good, why isn't there simulation 2? or why isn't reality a simulation as a service?
whoever is running this reality would go bankrupt and would've pulled the plug on the server a long time ago

objectively speaking, because it has shitloads of features and modules that you will never use. apart from fedora and redhat, very few distributions make use of all the modules - so you get a mish mash of systemd and old unix and have to learn both. subjectively, because every distro mysteriously adopted it at the same time almost as if they were paid to do so. you should be suspicious of it

I am 34 years old, and 15 years ago, I started making an MMORPG by myself…

I've created a web game, written primarily in perl. The thing is, years ago I wanted to make my own mmorpg, just like everyone else. Thing is, I have actually gone a long way towards creating one. I am not ready to publicize it just yet, because I still have a long way to go. Word to the wise: don't expect to make an mmorpg of any kind by yourself in less than a decade.

Of course, the first m in mmorpg stands for "massively." That's where I'm getting to now with the project. It's been developed on an inexpensive, low-traffic server. Once I open it up, odds are quite good that just a few simultaneous players will crash it. And then there's the issue of my coding. There are dozens of scripts and systems that must work together flawlessly for this game to have any promise with an actual player base. That's where stress-testing comes into play. I have little experience with this aspect of development.

What can I expect? Let's say I support an average base of 100 players. Will my server needs be too unreasonable to assure a profitable venture? I just don't know too many people who actually created an mmorpg by themselves and got to this point to find out.

Years ago I saw a video on an inventor who cut cylinders into a steel block, filled them with water, and spun it around really fast until the water vaporized.

His setup to measure energy consumption and energy changes int he system fit inside a large garage. He invited a scientist to come examine his method and walked him through it.

It was some video 20 minutes or longer but when I did into it on AI i keep getting the retarded gas vapor car videos that are bullshit.

The science community discredited the guy who used the water vapor in a spinning cylinder build, so I was just wondering if any of you saw it or remember what it was called?

That's a cool project! Apart from the obvious technical lackings already mentionned, here is a list of ideas / improvements that you may find useful:

- Before adding anything big (database, file storage, …), starts by a well-structured base: Organization is key, starts by a correct naming convention for other developers to understand your project.
>You can name your modules by their plain name like "header.php", "footer.php", etc… without overheads. Separating the page by modules is a good idea.

>"database.txt" is not exactly a database, more like a message log. Rename it "message_log.txt"

>Name the CSS file "style.css", a well-known name.

- Use correct HTML5 tags, it helps everyone (both humans and machines) understanding yout website structure: https://www.tutorialrepublic.com/html-reference/html5-tags.php.

Come home white man - Microsoft 2025

Linux will never be a real gaming OS. It has no cooperate support. You're games that you play are just emulated.

All the videos about Linux being the superior OS are two faced and half-hearted. Large corporations are secretly in the background making ways to make Linux corperate and worse than Windows.

Anti cheats ultimately despise you. Decades of work to sniff out fraud and even if you manage to get an anti cheat to work you will be banned. Devs will simply turn anti cheat back on.

You will never be happy. All that time wasted tinkering and money wasted on games that reject you will eventually become unbearable.
You will get a USB and flash Windows going back to the OS that your computer was designed for.

Why is my external 4 TB hard drive making singular clicking noises intermittently? It happens when I was going through directories and copying stuff from a soy folder I have there. I checked crystaldiskinfo, there's no signs of bad sectors (yet).

Weirdly when plugged into another PC (I didn't access the files), it didn't make any noises. But for safety reasons I will make a backup. I'm a retard who didn't do 3-2-1 backup regularly.

 24290

if its seagate they have a tool to test drive health, im sure that western digital has something similar.

install this https://www.hdtune.com/download.html
do a full scan and it will pick up any bad sectors. also defragmenting would probably help with speed. worse case scenario back up now

 24307

If a spinning drive is making soft ticking/clicking sounds when actively reading and writing, it's fine.

The emission spectrum of LED is still terrible for your eyes and sleep. Plus most strobe 24/7 like fluorescent lights which probably also fucks with your brain. I believe I can notice this in my peripheral vision as well as CRTs but I could just be a schizo

 24235

>>24233
I can't stand all of the "daylight" color temperature gaslighting that goes on in lighting. The Sun is not tinted blue. It's not even pure white at noon during summer. Most artificial lighting, especially at night, in the evening, and early morning, should match natural non-sun lighting, which is regular red fire, which just so happens to be a very warm color temperature.

 24241

heaters use natural gas which are able to convert nearly 100% of the energy stored in hydrocarbon into heat, whereas electrical generators that make electricity from gas only have an efficiency of 50%.. So using electricity to produce heat is inefficient.

Pretty much everyone I see has their screens turned up to high brightness. My phone and computer are turned down, it feels better this way (even if somephonos will whine about muh color accuracy)

What about night light? That should in theory mitigate all these issues. I use it and it doesn't strain my eyes in the morning.

Hey teens, getting a macbook soon (for work), I'm curious if there's any linux distro that works on the M4 chip that isn't made by that weird weird tranny.

why would you buy yourself a mac? just buy a thinkpad or smth, or if you want to play games i think lenovo also sells some nice gaming laptops

 22747

Hey teens, getting a macbook soon. Holidays are coming, so get yourself a macbook air, while the competition struggles with perf/watt. Silicon macbook are just top tier, no other windows laptop comes even close. Theyre decent laptops, but they get scratched up easily just like ideapads. Mac is easy to use and easy to learn. I'm not super into linux. I installed fedora asahi on my macbook and honestly i am upset. I'm curious if there's any linux distro that works on the M4 chip that isn't made by that weird weird tranny.

 22871

Hey teens, getting a macbook soon (for work). MacOS is really just a polished UNIX OS so there is no point in using linux. The OSX unix terminal is just as powerful as linux's. Silicon macbook are just top tier, no other windows laptop comes even close. No wonder Asahi Lina ACK'd ximself and quit his own project.

 24242

>year of the macbook linux

Hey kids. I'm getting a macbook soon. Maybe this year the asahi linux will start supporting m4.

If they get rid of the personal computers then they won't need anyone to run the machines. I saw this coming when Stadia was announced in 2019. I was watching the ad worrying that personal computers were gonna be the thing of the past. Internet speeds aren't good enough to run cloud only. Internet speeds are still slow.

Techbros will be unemployed. Even cybersecurity chuddies won't be safe if AI can watch every single move being made by every person, then cyber chuddies would be made obsolete. Education and critical thinking are going obsolete in favor for the push of AI because you don't need educated people if AI does all the work.

 24194

>>24135
That's actually what is going to happen. I tried to tell people to not buy the GTX Titan or any Nvidia GPUs after 2012. They all said a $1,000 GPU wouldn't be normalized within the next decade. But no, stupid consumer cattle just kept on buying le name brand.
>ur le reddit for pointing out anti-consumer practices!
>muh precious god brand Nvidia would never ever abuse us like that!

Too many people think they know better, when in fact they know so little they end up doing harm while acting like they're helping.

OP back from this thread https://ghostarchive.org/archive/vo9pS
I'm considering asking someone to help me set up Hayden as I'm a tech-illiterateGOD when it comes to actually hosting ts shit or setting up anything more complicated then static HTML+CSS websites.
THE PLAN
Make it archive snca hobby boards as no one really bothers to archive them despite their quality surpassing /soy/ /qa/ and /pol/ combined.
I'm not really gonna fork the source code at all so uh yeah
The only problem or leading factor to boards is RAM consumption, my desktop (yes I'm hosting this on a desktop I daily like how Quote ran it on a braptop), Hayden archives a board on 40mbs of RAM so depending on how much RAM I want to give of will be factor in which boards I choose.
Add the csv of the log warehouse https://archive.org/details/logwarehouse as there is no way to properly browse it without software like Hayden (I've tried to open it with a spreadsheet reader, did not work).
Maybe add the other archives Angeleno added but idk if httrack is possible I know tar imports are.
Current boards thought of
