Exam Overview and Syllabus

The Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate exam has, in my view, become a must-have for data engineers. Since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, we’ve seen an unprecedented wave of GenAI adoption across every corner of the industry — and data engineering is no exception. Things are evolving rapidly, and the best way to stay relevant is to move with the tide while keeping your fundamentals strong.

Once you’ve built a solid foundation in SQL, Python, distributed computing, cloud platforms, and data modeling, it’s the perfect time to spread your wings into the world of Generative AI. This certification helps you cross that first big hurdle with confidence.

In this article, I’ll share my quick journey — what worked for me, what didn’t — so that fellow data engineers can find it a little easier to prepare for and succeed in this exam.

The exam covers

  1. Design Applications — 14%
  2. Data Preparation — 14%
  3. Application Development — 30%
  4. Assembling and Deploying Apps — 22%
