Ocean Park has closed the upper section of its theme park until further notice over a cable car signalling fault.

“[A] thorough inspection will be conducted to ensure visitor safety. As the Ocean Express is undergoing annual inspection, transport services between the upper and lower park will be suspended until further notice,” the park said in a website statement, as it apologised to visitors.

Whilst “The Summit” will remain closed, facilities at the lower part of the park – “The Waterfront” – will stay open.

Ocean Park’s Water World also remains closed. It was billed as an all-weather theme park open all year round. But it shuttered last October for a “seasonal break” and is scheduled to reopen this summer.

The park received a HK$850 million subsidy from taxpayers in the 2022-23 financial year.

It reported a HK$71 million deficit last November despite an uptick in revenue and visitors.
